If they say no, report them to the CAA who will promptly ground them, as all passenger aircraft must have one fitted by law. Hope you didn't lose out financially. Title: Euro Qualifiers Official Match day thread Post by: lebowski on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, 21:51:01 why is it that it's only ever england players or coaches that say "there are no easy games in international football anymore"?
Title: Euro Qualifiers Official Match day thread Post by: janaage on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, 21:53:15 To be fair Lebowski I even heard one of the Andorra players say they thought they had an easy international game tonight.
Turns out they were wrong though! Title: Euro Qualifiers Official Match day thread Post by: McLovin on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, 21:53:40 My plane diverted to Luton, so we were stuck without one (could have bussed us there, the bastards!). I've got an unexpected 2 days off work now, which i'll use to get as much cash back as possible...
Whits - i'm not going on Saturday, is there another home game before Bury away? Title: Euro Qualifiers Official Match day thread Post by: lebowski on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, 21:55:32

In fact i feel so sorry for him i want to stroke the bald patch on top of his head  How good are Northern Ireland at the moment ,superb :D Title: Euro Qualifiers Official Match day thread Post by: lebowski on Thursday, March 29, 2007, 08:02:41 and there i was thinking things would be so much better under sven's assistant.
i too want to stroke steve's bald bit - do you think the front tuft gets lonely? Title: Euro Qualifiers Official Match day thread Post by: Batch on Thursday, March 29, 2007, 08:04:03 Personally I think the team got what it deserved from the fans after that first half. I took the boos as being aimed towards the team as a whole though there were a lot of anti-MacLaren chants. The buck always stops with MacLaren, he was an unpopular (and wrong) choice when appointed and so it is hardly suprising that he gets jumped on when things go wrong.
There is hope for MacLaren, Bobby Robson went through some less than happy times after the Euros and before Italia '90. Can't see history repeating itself mind. As for the game I think it was the telegraph who summarised best. something like "after 53 minutes we were drawing 0-0 against a Ski resort, and not a very nice ski resort at that". Title: Euro Qualifiers Official Match day thread Post by: lebowski on Thursday, March 29, 2007, 08:06:42 seems to me though batch that the same people in the press who called for an english manager, are now demanding that mclaren be sacked.
anyway, surely grinding out a 3-0 win when you're not playing well (and your best midfielder has wrist-knack) is the sign of a great team. Title: Euro Qualifiers Official Match day thread Post by: Batch on Thursday, March 29, 2007, 08:20:28 No, winning 3-0 against a team of that quality is a sign of a struggling team. If you think Lampard is our best I suggest you put down the cooking sherry. He ancd Rooney seem alergic to playing in white at the moment
As for the press, they are bunch of wankers. Hypocrites. Everyone knows that. They'll do whatever it is needed order to sell a paper or make themselves a name. Build 'em up, knock 'em down. Title: Euro Qualifiers Official Match day thread Post by: mattboyslim on Thursday, March 29, 2007, 08:40:53 Ultimately my gripe is with the FA, O'Neill wanted the job and had credentials to do it, the FA once more showed they wanted a yes man and gave it to McLaren, their long standing fear of a strong character has again reared it's head, the players and the coach need to take a degree of responsibility - there is enough quality there to qualify, but the people who put the guy in the hot seat are ulitmately at fault IMHO.
Title: Euro Qualifiers Official Match day thread Post by: lebowski on Thursday, March 29, 2007, 08:43:31 that's all very well matt, but martin o'neill is the only football pundit that i like - if he was england manager then i'd have to watch bbc's football coverage with the sound off until he's sacked.

Title: Euro Qualifiers Official Match day thread Post by: Rich Pullen on Thursday, March 29, 2007, 09:40:56 Steve McClaren, in my opinion, should never have been appointed in the first place. He was in Sven's coaching staff and therefore represents too many of the same methods from the old regime for it to be effective. We needed a complete change and we never got that.
By appointing McClaren we might as well have kept Sven - and barely anyone wanted that. And why should they be happy about such an inept performance against a bunch of part timers? McClaren should never have been appointed in the first place, he is a clone of Sven in the tactics department and the F.A. went with the safe option instead of choosing somebody that could take us forward. Title: Euro Qualifiers Official Match day thread Post by: larwood on Thursday, March 29, 2007, 13:51:26 One of my major problems with the press [aside from the fact that i think they love it when England aren't doing well, just look at the Sun's current coverage for proof!Macdonut, what a laugh] is they were the ones wanting an English manager, and now they've got one and he's no good,so there're sticking the knive into the bloke in the traditional good olde English press way.No blame is placed on the players, its the same old shit, how can these players be so good for their club sides and not do the same for England? Its not all McClarens fault is all i'm saying.
I've already said before in this thread that the real blame lies with the FA,not going to say it again cause we all know its true and it ain't going to change a thing sadly. Title: Euro Qualifiers Official Match day thread Post by: reeves4england on Thursday, March 29, 2007, 19:29:50 Okay - anybody who is majorly upset with that England performance is going over the top in my opinion
There's no argument, the first half was aweful to say the least. We had about 80% of the posession and created next to nothing with it. Downing looked cack, Rooney was anonymous and there was no pressure put on the opposition. However, we came out in the second half looking a different team. We were a long way off a good performance but the players knew all we had to do was break down the opposition. Robinson had nothing to do all night so one goal was going to win it. They played a bit quicker and made a few more runs and hey presto we grab a couple of goals through Gerrard and it's rounded off by a third from a decent move. I'm not defending the performances of late, but the players went out there to do a job and (in the end) got it done Title: Euro Qualifiers Official Match day thread Post by: Scot Munroe on Thursday, March 29, 2007, 20:05:56 England won that is all that matters for fuck sake. The press never let things go. Fans are so fickle. McClaren as said earlier was no where near first choice. It was Hiddink who will be the next chelsea manager. You do not see the Scottish press on the back of Alex Mcleash(spelling) after getting beat in Bari yesterday. The press have been on Steve back since the 0-0 draw with Macedonia in Manchester in October.

To be fair, when Scotland had the worst manager in Europe (bombscare) Berti they didn't boo the team despite being utterly minging............................................ They just didn't bother going to the home games anymore, the SFA had no option to get rid of him and they now are enjoying a new lease of life. They ain't going to qualify but they have beaten France and have had some good results.
