to be fair, i think they have a point....this is woeful.....at the end of the day we are playing a team with 1 professional player, who plays in the 2nd division in spain...we have no tempo..no drive..we barely look like scoring

if i'd paid good money to go over there then i would be livid... between the players on the pitch they probably earn well over 700-800k a week between and they barely look able to take on the local postie...

Personally I don't expect France AND Italy to qualify.  It'll be between us and Ukraine for the second qualification spot.  Whether that's runner up to France or Italy I'm not sure.

yes ben we have, but the Ukraine, Italy and france all have to play each other so, we get the points against the lower sides and make sure we get points at hampden and we'll have a chance.

First time in a while i actually watched an England game,and yeah it was crap as i expected BUT the England fans out there,wtf????Talk about not supporting the team,the amount of vitriol aimmed torwards MacClaren was embarrassing and uncalled for,no one seemed pissed off with the players.They are just sheep being led along by the press to hate the manager,not the people who are to blame, the fucking FA for sadling us with a coach who doesn't have the ability to manage a national team.I feel sorry for the bloke,he's been hung out to dry by the FA and the press :x

Personally I think the team got what it deserved from the fans after that first half. I took the boos as being aimed towards the team as a whole though there were a lot of anti-MacLaren chants. The buck always stops with MacLaren, he was an unpopular (and wrong) choice when appointed and so it is hardly suprising that he gets jumped on when things go wrong.

There is hope for MacLaren, Bobby Robson went through some less than happy times after the Euros and before Italia '90. Can't see history repeating itself mind.

As for the game I  think it was the telegraph who summarised best. something like "after 53 minutes we were drawing 0-0 against a Ski resort, and not a very nice ski resort at that".

seems to me though batch that the same people in the press who called for an english manager, are now demanding that mclaren be sacked.

anyway, surely grinding out a 3-0 win when you're not playing well (and your best midfielder has wrist-knack) is the sign of a great team.

Ultimately my gripe is with the FA, O'Neill wanted the job and had credentials to do it, the FA once more showed they wanted a yes man and gave it to McLaren, their long standing fear of a strong character has again reared it's head, the players and the coach need to take a degree of responsibility - there is enough quality there to qualify, but the people who put the guy in the hot seat are ulitmately at fault IMHO.

Steve McClaren, in my opinion, should never have been appointed in the first place. He was in Sven's coaching staff and therefore represents too many of the same methods from the old regime for it to be effective. We needed a complete change and we never got that.

By appointing McClaren we might as well have kept Sven - and barely anyone wanted that.

McClaren should never have been appointed in the first place, he is a clone of Sven in the tactics department and the F.A. went with the safe option instead of choosing somebody that could take us forward.

There's no argument, the first half was aweful to say the least. We had about 80% of the posession and created next to nothing with it. Downing looked cack, Rooney was anonymous and there was no pressure put on the opposition.

However, we came out in the second half looking a different team. We were a long way off a good performance but the players knew all we had to do was break down the opposition. Robinson had nothing to do all night so one goal was going to win it. They played a bit quicker and made a few more runs and hey presto we grab a couple of goals through Gerrard and it's rounded off by a third from a decent move.

I'm not defending the performances of late, but the players went out there to do a job and (in the end) got it done

England won that is all that matters for fuck sake. The press never let things go. Fans are so fickle. McClaren as said earlier was no where near first choice. It was Hiddink who will be the next chelsea manager. You do not see the Scottish press on the back of Alex Mcleash(spelling) after getting beat in Bari yesterday.
