Title: they do have a sense of humour
Post by: oxford_fan on Saturday, March 24, 2007, 23:30:36
some quotes from england players in the times today cracked me up. they were responding to this crap about beckham unsettling the world cup squad.

petey crouch:

"it was my job to test beck's orange juice and make sure it was the right consistency and temperature, then to pour his Cheerios. But I didn't have to do it on Wednesdays. He always gave me that day off and got someone else to do it. Thats the Becks I'll remember from the World Cup, always thinking of others."

I'd like to go drinking with big Pete.

G Nev:

"just because a players worked hard for himself and got himself into a position where he has his own separate changing room, doesnt mean he was responsible for wrecking squad morale....i think we all understood that if we worked as hard as becks, particularly in the shaving advertisements, we too, would get to travel to games in a blacked-out town car rather than some dingy old bus."

Rio:

"I remember checking in at Baden-Baden and there weren't enough rooms for Theo Walcott. Sven went up to have a word with Becks and, quick as you like he have him a cusion off one of his sofas, almost without even having to be asked. And that meant Theo got a good-ish nights kip in the corridor."

Theo:

"I'll never forget the impact he had on me. It wasn't just the sofa cusion. There was a night early in the tournament when i couldn't sleep. So I went up in the lift to the floor where becks' suite was. Unfortunately, security refused to buzz me in, but one of the bouncers there was extremely nice and loaned me a copy of "Stuff" magazine. It's acts of kindness like that you remember."

Made me laugh on jimmy Hill's show yesterday. They were looking at the sports headlines in the papers, and three in a row had "You Don't Know WHat You're Doing" as the back page headline (re McClaren of course!)

Some good stuff there OF  :D
