Title: New signings Post by: sonic youth on Saturday, March 17, 2007, 23:07:56 Or perhaps it's because Sturrock is targetting players which are unattainable?
The reason Bart talks nonsense is because of the consortium, nothing to do with him not liking the board. Other posters on this forum have managed it. Title: New signings Post by: DV on Saturday, March 17, 2007, 23:14:37 ....and how exactly does the board put a player off joining on loan?
Please explain. I can understand maybe the board not wanting to pay any of the wages, therefore clubs not wanting to let their players out on loan whilst still paying all their wages.... ....but that aside the board have nothing to do with the transfers. I cant see Leon Best saying 'Nah, I dont want to go on loan to Swindon because of that Bob Holt' Title: Re: New signings Post by: Fred Elliot on Saturday, March 17, 2007, 23:15:16 Quote from: "STFC Bart" The reason we havent had any is because of the board, nothing to do with them not wanting to play in league 2. The delicate nature of modern footballers cannot cope with this. Title: New signings Post by: Fred Elliot on Saturday, March 17, 2007, 23:19:56 I heard that

Title: New signings Post by: sonic youth on Saturday, March 17, 2007, 23:27:07 Neither of which are something you do.
You appear, you post something which has no basis of truth and provide nothing to support your suggestion and then you ignore everyone's response. Hardly an exhange of views or a discussion is it? Agreed Bart We are all pissed off with the board mate Why keep throwing things like this in the pot Let them be their own undoing FFS We dont need any more speculation on this and that thank you very much. Lets just deal in cold hard facts, there are plenty out there Title: Re: New signings Post by: Sussex on Saturday, March 17, 2007, 23:34:38 Quote from: "STFC Bart" The reason we havent had any is because of the board Ok, come on then. Give us all some facts/a fact, to back up that statement. Title: New signings Post by: DV on Saturday, March 17, 2007, 23:35:13 Quote from: "STFC Bart" This is a forum. Sturrock could easily walk away if he felt the board were not backing him, but at least the board are going to let him bring in a few players. Glad to hear that some new players are coming in as we really need some new faces, it will give other players a good kick up the backside (hopefully). Think if sturrock signs two strikers and a winger which he said today he would like to do then roberts will be dropped for the lincoln game, but he does not seem committed, he lacks motivation and does not battle hard enough for the team and there are a few others like that as well. The squad is bare and with at least 3 new signings if they are fairly decent players then we still have a good chance of automatic promotion, but it's do or die now, we have to win at lincoln otherwise we really are in trouble. However it would be alot better with the consortium in control as they would back Sturrock more than this lot. Other sides in our division have managed it Its a fair point....given the little of which we can be certain, one fact is the Board don't want to pay the promotion bonuses. Diamandis will also be aware that crowds in a possible semi decent seaon in L2, will be higher than a poor seasom in L1...ergo from the Board's position promotion isn't desirable. Sturrock may well be able to offset this against the opportunity to forge his own side for next year if the club is still in business. His proactive engagement in the sale of Lukas suggests he realises it was a necessary evil...to ensure a club for next season. Title: New signings Post by: millom red on Sunday, March 18, 2007, 08:37:44 I reckon Reg might have it about right...........It makes sense.
Title: New signings Post by: Lumps on Sunday, March 18, 2007, 09:09:44 I think if Sturrock's hands were being tied behind his back as far as bringing new players in he would have mentioined it by now.
At the very lest he would have made one of those statements about "the financial realities of life in the lower leagues restricting my options" that managers make when they're trying to say to the fans "don't fucking blame me that the team are shit, the board won't let me spend any fucking money". He hasn't even hinted that finance is restricting his options so I think it's unlikely. Sonic I think has probably hit the nail on the head. For the last few years he's been at Plymouth, Southampton, and the Wendies, all arguably bigger clubs than us, and all in higher leagues. He's got used to aiming a bit higher int he transfer market, and the sort of players he might have got at those clubs are taking one look at us and deciding they might be better off continuing to turn out in the stiffs until a better offer comes along. It might have been a better idea to sound out a few of his targets BEFORE he let half a dozen players leave.......... Title: New signings Post by: reeves4england on Sunday, March 18, 2007, 15:26:02 You have a good point, but don't forget Plymouth were in Leaue 2 when he joined. His experiences since then may well have affected his judgement though!
