I'm (The Groom) paying for the suit hire at my wedding in September. But we are paying for everything. Not sure what proper "Protocol" is...

Being a traditionalist, it should be down to the brides parents.

I didn't have to pay for my suit at the wedding I was best man at, and I even managed to charge the groom £150 appearance fee as my speech was that good.  :wink:

IMHO really depends on who's paying for the rest - but realistically the parents or the couple I would say, when I was an usher - admittedly as a poor 19yr old student the suit was paid for by my parents as it was my sisters weddding - they were bought suits though? no idea who paid for the grooms side of the family though?

Tradition/Custom says that the Groom pays for the Grooms suit and the Best Mans suit.

The brides father pays for the Ushers and the Bridesmaid dresses.

It also depends in whether the best man and bridesmaids get a say in what they have to wear if they have to contribute towards it

Emily is being a bridesmaid soon and she had to buy her own dress and she HATES it - shes never going to wear again so what a waste of money

Anyway, the The best man, ushers, bridesmaid, etc, should not have to contribute finacially to whatever it is they are being made to wear.

It can't be the best man etc who have to pay for the suits it's not as if they had a choice "mate you wanna be my best man? oh by the way it's gonna cost ya a £100" yeah thats fair. it should be anyone other than the best man etc noramlly it the brides paretnts who have to pay for everything. I once went out with a bird who had a wedding fund when we split it was somewhere near 10K bearing in mind when we split she was 26 I reckon that it will never get used and she'll end up a spinster!
