Title: Newcastle United supporters. Post by: Spencer_White on Friday, March 9, 2007, 21:34:46 Last night I was listening to 5Live radio and the commentator was saying how brilliant Newcastle fans were. Then I got in and the Channel 5 commentator and Joe Royle were up the Geordies arses saying how passionate they are and how brilliant they look in their black and white shirts.
THE GROUND WAS HALF FULL! IN THE ONLY COMPETITION THEY MIGHT WIN! How the fuck do Newcastle get away with it? It must drive Sunderland fans mental. The media are completely obsessed with them and happy to peddle any 'Toon' stereotype. Just because they turn every ground they go to into a barcode doesnt make them the self appointed 'worlds greatest supporters'. Id love to see them back in the 2nd tier AGAIN. Their support would not stand up to scrtiny And I say AGAIN because they have spent a lot of their not so illustrious history in the 2nd division. Theyve just got lucky in riding the Premiership gravy train. Newcastle United. Full of shit. Rant over. Title: Newcastle United supporters. Title: Newcastle United supporters. Post by: Spencer_White on Friday, March 9, 2007, 22:14:47 Whats that got to do with their ground being half full?
That was a serious rant. :soap: I might go post on a Newcastle board. :twak: Title: Newcastle United supporters. Post by: yeo on Friday, March 9, 2007, 22:31:20 In their defence it costs a lot of money to go to football and Newcastle fill their ground with Geordies. The likes of Man utd ,Arsenal and Chelsea get day trippers, foreigners and nuetrals taking up much of the stands for games like this. Its a flimsy arguement and ive no real wish to stand up for them but there is some truth to it. .
Title: Newcastle United supporters. Post by: millom red on Friday, March 9, 2007, 22:54:50 Spot on Yeovil...ive been to st.james a couple of times, and you dont find many out of towners going, I'd say about 90% of their support is local to the north east unlike salford united, aresenal et-al. And they make you feel really welcome if you do go. Best suuporters in the world? Dunno....i think for hard core support in the top 10 at least.

Title: Newcastle United supporters. Post by: Reg Smeeton on Saturday, March 10, 2007, 11:22:13 Spencer, I agree with your sentiment 100%. The first season I recall us playing Newcastle was back in 63/64 in the old Div 2 (second tier) our crowd average of 18000+ was more than the likes of Man City, Soton, Derby and on a par with the Smoggies.
However Newcastle and Leeds had 29000....Leeds being champions.....both were dwarfed by Sunderland who had 41000. Title: Newcastle United supporters. Its all a matter of opinion. But id say Sunderland have the 2nd best away support in the country after Man United. Probably then Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea. DV, I think they had some of that side stand to the right as well. Could be wrong though. Whatever it was it was impressive. I think Newcastle have considered themselves a top 5 team in the country for a good 10 years now. But Id never put them in that bracket. This seems to be dawning on the supporters who jumped on the bandwagon post 1993 (Geordies or not). The wind is falling out of their sails. Title: Newcastle United supporters. Post by: Amir on Sunday, March 11, 2007, 17:00:05 It's a myth perpetuated by the media, the same as Man City have the best fans in the country. Well if you want to ignore the facts and just focus on them getting 30,000 in the third division, or clapping the team off when they've gone down, then they have.
The press just got a bit hysterical with the geordies because there was so much hype around them when they came back up, and they were too big to not be in the top flight. Title: Newcastle United supporters. Post by: Spencer_White on Sunday, March 11, 2007, 20:40:23 8000 in that end with 5000 locked out according to the NOTW.

The other way round arsenal sold out there tickets in three days max!! How many do Arsenal take to Middlesborough, Blackburn, Bolton? Spurs take more to those games without a doubt. If I had to say who was the bigger club Id say Arsenal. But Spurs' away support is superior. Always stand up now. Rarely see boring school teacher Arsenal fans doing that. Besides Arsenal tried some dodgy shennanigans with those tickets. For a long time they only gave Spurs a league allocation instead of a League cup semi final allocation. That might have complicated matters. I think you are clutching at straws because you know Im right. Title: Newcastle United supporters. Title: Newcastle United supporters. Post by: herthab on Tuesday, March 13, 2007, 19:59:10 I hate it when the media say a club has 'fantastic' fans, when what they really mean is that they have a larger fan base.
A Newcastle Utd fan is no more fantastic than a Colchester fan. There's just more of 'em! As I keep telling my missus: "Size isn't everything." Title: Newcastle United supporters. Post by: OOH! I get sick of hearing about Geordie fans 'deserving' success. You take what you're bloody well given when you are a football fan. They don't love their club any more than I love mine and like me, have no God given right to be successful. So they, and perhaps more to the point, the Media, can fuck off as far as I am concerned :wanker: Title: Newcastle United supporters. They get annoyed over petty little things, and I even once saw a teenage fan gob off at Alan Shearer because he didn't sign his programme. That isn't what i call being a good supporter Title: Newcastle United supporters. Post by: Amir on Tuesday, March 13, 2007, 22:27:02 While it's not good to have board members who look down on their fans(don't we know about that one!), it was funny when Shepherd and his mate were caught laughing at their fans for being mugs all buying the shirt :D
Title: Newcastle United supporters. Post by: Matchworn Shirts on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, 07:33:23 Some of you people are so ignorant, I bet none of you have ever been to a Newcastle match, so have absolutely no idea. The 'best supporters in the country' comes from the media, but to question the support is a joke. Won nothing for nearly 40 years and still get home and away attendences like they do, I think it speaks for itselfs. How many other team would get backing like they do having not won anything for a eternity, Man Utd and that is it.
1-4 down in the cup semi-final against Man Ure, still bellowing from the bottom your lungs even though the team have put in no effort - yes afwul football supporters :? Title: Newcastle United supporters. Post by: Spencer_White on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, 19:29:09 Not awful. Just well overrated.

Fuck off! I went to Newcastle in the nineties (Midweek game) took a day off work and watched the most entertaining 0.0 draw I've ever seen. But because I suport a team with a smaller fan base than Newcastle, I'm not fantastic? I think all this 'who's got the best fans' is a load of bollocks. 's it's all about numbers. Ok, Newcastle has got a larger fanbase than us. So what? It doesn't make then better than us. And by the way, Newcastles gate for that game was about 11,000. What fantastic support.............................not. It's easy to support a team when they're succesful, or when they're playing top flight teams week in, week out. Try supporting them when when they're away at Boston. Fucking tossers, pisses me off.............................. Title: Newcastle United supporters. That's all I've got to say about that. http://www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk/MatchReport.asp?MatchID=19930134 *NOTE* Graham Poll was the ref, no wonder Colin's goal was allowed to stand! Title: Newcastle United supporters. Post by: mattboyslim on Thursday, March 15, 2007, 12:57:36 Must ahve gone to that one, I think in the run in that season I only missed one home game, against peterborough - same day as the aborted grand national, cos my mum wasn't about to look after my ssiter, so we were stuck in watching ET. We ahs some great games with newcastle back then, I used to go with my Dad on the sat two weeks before the next match, ie matchday morning and queue right down the length of the north stand to get the next lot of tickets - it was a huge queue to get tickets for that game. Halcyon days indeed
Title: Newcastle United supporters. Post by: land_of_bo on Thursday, March 15, 2007, 12:59:30 Andy Cole got an immense amount of shit at that game, it was ace!
Went to the away game as well that year, was a 0-0 and there was a pretty big crowd, about 28K IIRC, think there was only 900 town fans though and we were shoved in a corner terrace like the old pig pen between Stratton Bank and Shrivvy Road... Title: Newcastle United supporters. Post by: mattboyslim on Thursday, March 15, 2007, 13:08:18 Oh yeah, Cole on debut I think, remember my normally placid Dad givin Cole soem 'city reject' abuse from the north stand.
