Title: Mr Pook's comments in the Adver
Post by: janaage on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, 10:37:59
Not what I want to hear, where's your fucking fighting spirit??  No wonder we're throwing in the promotional towel with an outlook like that.  get a fucking grip, get some pride and get some fucking points.  Sturrock should not be allowing attitudes like that, we're 4th in the league ffs.

Come on lads get some fire in your bellies.  As worse as last years relegation.

http://www.thisisstfc.co.uk/News_Headlines_Story.asp?NewsID=6424

disclaimer - this is not an attack on M Pook himself just at the general mental attitude of all involved at present.

Fucking hell Peacocks comments aren't that much better

"It is like we have lost all confidence in ourselves...

...There is no confidence, self-belief or flow to us at the moment."

Although the rest of his interviews a little bit better, more onwards and upwards kind of thinking.

Hate to say it but maybe that lady at the fans forum talking about mental coaching had a point.  This lot sound like they need a dose of pick me up pills.

Actually I admired Peacocks comments and think he is perhaps more to the point than Sturrock and anyone else I have heard talk about our recent form.

http://www.thisisstfc.co.uk/news_headlines_Story.asp?NewsID=6423

Peacock said: “The gaffer has said about the work ethic but I don’t think any of the lads are actually going out there and not trying.
“It is just we are working as individuals rather than as a team. We look very disjointed, whereas earlier this season we were getting results because we were working together.

Don't think you could describe our current form much better than this to be honest and I have respect for any member of our squad who is willing to disagree with the gaffer and add his view to the table.....it makes it much easier for Sturrock to see what he needs to do if he has the honest views of his more passionate players.
Well done Peacock for having the balls to say it how you see/feel it.

It does worry me though Chris, Pook has all the makings of a tough battling midfielder, ok so his passing range isn't that great, he's never gonna score that many per season, but he could be a tough tackling midfield man, but not with that defeatist attitude.

I can’t believe how bad we are feeling at the moment.

Oh boo-fucking-hoo.

Now I understand what Sturrock means when he said there are too many people feeling sorry for themselves and not putting the club first.

If you don't like how it feels, DO something about it! Simple really.

I hope Sturrock reads the article the way the fans will read in to it... with annoyance.

Fatbury, seriously you're getting boring now mate, ok we know that you think what you think, but can we have a chat about footie issues without bringing up the same old board shit time after time.  Do that in the boardroom section.

The article was disappointing to read, and nothing to do with the board.

I honestly think that he could be a good player, it's the position I used to play, just be fit enough to run around for the full ninety get stuck in and then give the ball to someone who can do something with it.

It's amazing how good you can look if you concentrate on that.

I never said he was or is a tough battling midfield, but he could be DV.

Don't be a over reactionary defeatist, just get on with it and fight on.  Not that difficult.  The bloke sounds like a fairy in that interview.

I can see what you mean about his potential Jan.  I think Pook thinks he's Lampard, but he is massively short in most areas of his game to achieve that IMHO.  If he grew some balls and learned to tackle and give the easy ball he could be a semi-decent Makalele if he got lucky.  Breaking the play and shielding the defence - problem is he forgets his job and 'appears' to bottle it and lack effort - I'm not saying he necessarily does, but it looks that way.

I'd agree with that Matt.  Focus is what he needs, not the Ford variety as that wouldn't do him much good at the moment though.

Personally the reason I think Pook is "doomed" to play in League 1 & 2 is that his speed of thought isn't up to a higher level. By the time he has worked out where the ball should go it's too late.

Anyway enough about that, they should be going out and sweating blood to win a game. If they don't win but they have given their all then so be it. But confidence has crumbled and players are starting to hide in games.

At least they have come forward to say how they are 'feeling'. Not necessarily what we want to hear but it's sometimes better than the old 'we know we can do better' , 'just got to cut the silly mistakes out' etc etc and then not actually do any of them.

I felt quite lifted to read peacocks views that they are now treating it as an 11 game season, it puts it all in to perspective. There's not far to go, we're still in with a shout, just need to focus - that should really make them kick on and win the majority in my eyes. Will it happen, who knows.

I can not believe you even put Pook, Lampard and Makalele in the same post!!

......well without adding...."Pook is knowhere near as good as...", "Pook couldn't be as good as them in his wildest dreams", "Pook has about as much talent at football as Lampard or Makalele's grandmothers", "Lampard would be able to dribble round Pook with with his legs surgically sewn together and whilst giving Makalele a piggyback!" etc etc...

Lets face it, whether he tries or not, he is not EVER EVER EVER going to be a premiership player, let alone anywhere near the standard of two full blown international players such as Lampard and Makalele! Get real!

Post by: mattboyslim on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, 16:25:56
Apologies!  between semi-decent and Makalele I intended to insert 'League two'  I have no belief at all that he is fit to lace the boots of the chelsea lot, he'd miss place a lace and have someone's eye out.  But in that mould of breaking the play up Pook perhaps could be employed in that role in the lower leagues.  I meant to put the whole thing in a League two context, ie OK relative to the high wuality footballers we've seen this season.

OK mattboy, your forgiven

I know what you meant though, just as good a reason as any to make some more jibes at a player I dislike thats all!

No disrespect to him, just if I was boss, he wouldn't make my team full stop. Obviously my own personal opinion though so don't take that wrong.

What about Roberts/Brown etc? personally don't like Brown because of his big time charlie attitude, Roberts is frustrating because he has all the talent in the world but doesn't use it.

Pook I simply don't rate give it couple of years and he will be at supermarine, plenty of effort but hes not a holding midfielder, hes not an attacking midfield and hes not a playmaker so what exactly is he?

roberts is his own worst enemy, and brown has done himself no favours either.but both are far more talented than pook.
he on the other hand gives everything when he plays and is a box to box midfielder.alot of his work goes unnoticed, ie the dirty work and graft.
wise and poyet did a great job with pooky and he had some great performances under them.now he has good games and bad but i dont think he is anywhere near as bad as some say he is.i'd pick him as his effort is without question. some others should take a leaf out of his book
