Title: Grant Smith's trial..
Post by: janaage on Tuesday, February 27, 2007, 15:02:15
...At the home of the Hi-bees, Easter Road, extended by a week.  John Collins reckons GS has a pretty decent left foot and gave him another 7 days to impress.

Don't do it John!!!

I was told that GS was "fucking useless" in training.   Which is why his first team opportunities were so few and far between.

John Collins say he has a decent left foot... He said nothing about his overall training ability. I would still render your source as accurate!

Surely you have to earn a place in the starting XI in training though? You can't expect to put in minimal effort in training and expect to play on  Saturday, surely?

at League 1 and 2 level you can't that's for sure.

I rated Smith. We could certainly do with a few of his goals from midfield right now that's for sure.

What does it matter if a player is crap in training as long as he is doing the business on the pitch???

Nothing in theory.

But the other players would take offence by this attitude and would therefore create a dressing room rift = Unnecessary hassle.

He was alright, good I thought, but he was never "that" good to be shit in training and waltz into the first team.  A player like Parkin could afford that liability, but not a "worker" like Smith.

If he was still a town player now, 'Grunt' Smith would be in his element in the blood and thunder that is league 2 football. I suspect he would have spent most of his time on the sidelines through suspension tho.....

Yes. I expect he does.

Right now he's probably saying to himself, "Oooooh, I feel such a cunt for leaving Swindon, that was the biggest mistake of my life" 8)

I also heard he was not a good trainer, but he done well most of the time for us and was able to put some good crosses in the box and score from midfield.

Hmm maybe someone should tip Sturrock off that Smith maybe a decent loan signing, and of course he would have something to prove here after the way he left.

We can only hope.

Seriously though, STFC's the only club where he's settled(ish) and played regular first team football for a season and been in good form. He's had 12 clubs in 9 seasons.

It would be a very good move to give him a deal until the end of the season.

FACT!

He would be good as he can play in the centre and wide on the left, I think he had some of his better games in the middle

Anyone know Sturrocks email address ?

The beuatiful city of Edinburgh playing for the legendary club of Hibernian FC (who have Rangers this Saturday) and are in the League Cup final, and FA Cup semi's, or rejoin a club where 50% of the fans hate you and you have Stockport away this Saturday.

No contest, ooh to, ooh to be, ooh to be a, Hi-bee!!

In 02/3 from Halifax Town.

He'd certainly piled on the pounds last season.

Certainly played better in the middle than he ever did on the left, in part thanks to Duke who seemed to mop up when Smith went roaming forward.

Ha ha, that is the funniest post I have read for ages! There are 2 chanced of the Hobos winning the Scottish Cup, none and Fuckall. They couldn't even sell their allocation for the biggest derby in recent years the semi final last year against Hearts, was the best walk away from a football ground I have had in a few years getting to laugh at the great unwashed that had stayed until the end! 104 years and counting Jan!
