Title: john barnes...?? Post by: le god cuervo on Thursday, February 22, 2007, 16:36:52 Does anyone remember this?? I don't...
Quote John Barnes, the finest black player of his generation, was held up as the great hope for black managers. He was handed a massive opportunity when he was named manager of Scottish giants Celtic in June 1999, but lasted only eight months after a disastrous run of results including a Cup defeat by Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Barnes was eager to move back into management, and even coached for free at Swindon for a while but was not given a second chance and now works as a television presenter. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6376121.stm Is that even true? Surely there would have been lots of publicity about it? Title: john barnes...?? Post by: Scot Munroe on Thursday, February 22, 2007, 16:43:58 I have no recolation of that.
Title: john barnes...?? Post by: Rich Pullen on Thursday, February 22, 2007, 16:50:31 That's news to me!
If true (which I'm doubting), I can only think that would have been when Roy Evans was here. Title: john barnes...?? Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Thursday, February 22, 2007, 16:54:18 imagine the post match interviews with Barnesy
Title: john barnes...?? Post by: Tails on Thursday, February 22, 2007, 16:55:59 Didn't he do it with McMahon for a bit?
Title: john barnes...?? Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, February 22, 2007, 16:58:44 I saw that and certainly have no recall of it happening.....if he did some work with Mcmahon surely the Adver or Shaun would have got hold of it.

His presenting is like watching an Al-Jazera Hostage on TV. Title: john barnes...?? That's what I thought, but then surely he would've attracted more publicity than Ruddock? Lazy journalism!? Title: john barnes...?? But he was playing for Newcastle when McMahon was coming to the end of his Swindon tenure. I just figured it would be alot of commitment to commute from Liverpool/Newcastle for a couple of training sessions! Title: john barnes...?? Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, February 22, 2007, 17:58:04 Fair enough....but I think we can agree that as far as anyone knows Barnes never did any coaching here.
