Title: Sam Parkin
Post by: sonicyouth on Saturday, March 5, 2005, 18:46:40
Before the game today I went into Tesco and picked up a copy of 4-4-2 to look at, there was Super Sammy grinning from ear to ear on the front cover and inside was a picture of him celebrating a goal against Brighton last season. What a bloke. Off to football, buy a programme and have a look through and it's Sammy's A-Z. Good laugh, very witty bloke. What a legend. Rumour has it he's going to win Player of the Month this week as well. Absolutely marvellous, he must be delighted - national press coverage for him, recognition for his achievements, scoring freely, good results and the manager who was under fire a couple of months ago picks up the manager of the month award. Surely it can't get any better?

Let's fast-forward to Swindon v Bournemouth on a freezing cold Saturday afternoon in March, a crunch tie between two promotion contenders. A must win game to keep us in the title race. Undefeated in five games, riding the wave of renewed excitement at the club. It can't go wrong! Hang on, if there's one thing I've learnt from being a Swindon fan it's that nothing ever turns out like you want it to. Today was no exception.

I feel sorry for Sam. Deeply sorry and if I'd ever met him I'd apologise to him for everyone else being so shite. Every week he works his bollocks off for the team, he doesn't give up and he gives it everything he's got. He's scored over 20 goals in three consecutive seasons for this club and he cost us £50,000. His loyalty has remained solid and he's adored by every single fan of the club. Yet if he stays with us his career will go nowhere, simply put he deserves far better than us. Nobody would begrudge him a move away from Swindon and I've got little doubt that he would leave with as heavy a heart as we would all have. Unfortunately, it's inveitable. It's a bit like death really.

I have the utmost respect for him as a person and as a footballer, he could have thought 'fuck this, I don't have to play for this club' and thrown a strop a long time ago. Instead, he's knuckled down and continued to do what he's best at - score goals. I love him.

That is all.

I think that's a perfectly pitched point Mr Youth and I agree completely.

He's a fantastic talent and he's fiercely loyal, dedicated and passionate, and proud to wear the shirt, unlike half the wasters in this team.

He's only 23 and one day I'd love to see him wearing the 3 lions on his shirt.

Super, Super Sam...

Don't get me wrong he's a quality player, but get out of dreamland.

Fucking love him, but remember Northampton?  Maybe he's scared he'll stop scoring if he leaves.  That's what we should try and convince him anyway....

if he did leave for a fair bit and King could get a few decent players in with that money, more precisely a goalscorer to replace Parkin, a decent defensive central midfielder and a right winger (a proper one please) then our team would be amazing for this division. Unfortunately i can see the transfer money paying off the VAT debt when the stadium plan goes tits up and st. modwen want out

Agree with bothsonic and pieman there!

Parkin is the model proffesioinal, and he's quite smart for a footballer!
But he is better than STFC, and we all know it. He will be in the championship next year whoever he's playing for, and hopefully we will get ATLEST 500k for him. The way the transfer market's going though its hard to say what will happen.

I wish we had 11 Sam Parkins on the field (not literally) and then we would win every game through determination and desire.

WE LOVE YOU SAM!

i think the term model professional sums ssp up perfectly. i only wish some of the other players would reward his hard work and 20 goals with the same.

SSP is a ledge. I'll be sad to see him go at the end of the season.

If he ever comes back to the CG, I'l be giving him a great reception

His mum and dad are very nice too, i was stood behing them in the away play off game. His mum hit my mate wth her handbag when he said he was gonna miss his penalty :D

Be interesting to see how Sam does in a decent championship side. Next season could make or break him, assuming he moves then if he does well in the championship then the world is his lobster and the premiership beckons,if he flops then we can always take him back.

i did see him at work. he almost knocked a 14 stack o fglasses out of my hand, i looked up and gave him a dirt ylook, realised it was him and pointed in his face and said "ha you're sam parkin" then moved on.

then he was singing "i'm coming up ,i want the world to know"
parkin and duke were hits with the ladies but smith was just gormlessly behind them peering in on the fun

Well he got the award:

Trio are handed February awards
Marcus Tudgay
Tudgay has helped propel Derby into play-off contention
Derby County forward Marcus Tudgay has been named as the Championship's player of the month for February.

Tudgay, 22, was on target three times as the Rams continued their push towards the play-off places.

Swindon striker Sam Parkin also had a prolific month - netting five goals in five league games for the Robins - and claims the League One award.

And in League Two, Macclesfield striker Matthew Tipton is honoured after scoring four goals in three games.

more Parkin is great shit:

Parkin Takes Award

Swindon Town striker, Sam Parkin, has won the February Powerade Player of the Month Award in Coca-Cola League 1. Parkin's award gives Swindon Town the February double with Andy King winning the Coca-Cola Manager of the Month award.

Parkin took his goal tally for the season to 19 last month, scoring five in five games. The striker, who celebrates his 24th birthday in a couple of weeks, has been one of the main reasons for his team's rise up the table in recent weeks. The former Chelsea youngster, who signed a full contract with The Robins in 2002, is certainly repaying the faith put in him by the club when they chose to make his loan deal from the Blues permanent.

The awards, sponsored by Powerade, the Official Sports Drink of The Football League, are designed to recognise the top performances on a monthly basis in each level of the Coca-Cola Football League.

The Powerade Awards panel, chaired by Sky Sports pundit and Coca-Cola Ambassador Chris Kamara, made the decision. The panel also includes Jack Taylor from The Football League who refereed the 1974 World Cup final, Gerry Cox, Chairman of the Football Writers Association and Malcolm Clarke, Chairman of the Football Supporters Federation.

Kamara said, "Sam has scored five goals in five games this month and has helped put Swindon right up there and on target for the Play-Offs."

Sam Parkin

Parkin spoke exclusively to swindontownfc.co.uk after picking up the award: "It's pleasing to pick up the award obviously. The teams form has picked up in recent weeks and thankfully i have managed to score a few goals as well.

"We have remained unbeaten throughout the month and it has put us in with a good chance of getting into the playoffs.

"You don't get many awards in your career and it means the world to me to be honest. There is not that much recognition at this level and this is probably the only award given out each month and to get it this time is fantastic.

"It's been a good month especially with the manager getting the award also, so hopefully we can push on into the playoffs and have a good run until the end of the season."
