Title: swindon v darlo - match day thread
Post by: lebowski on Saturday, February 17, 2007, 11:51:35
lebowski makes his debut in starting off a match day thread and predicts that it will be a 1-1 draw with duke coming off the bench to score an absolute screamer, bringing back glossy eyed memories of his days here at the town.

o.g., of course.

"I was in my kitchen a few years ago bashing up some ingredients in my pestle and mortar and I suddenly thought to myself that even though I love the old pestle, there must be an easier and quicker way of bashing and grinding your herbs and spices together. Some way that isn't messy and doesn't take as much time. I've never come across anything in the shops that has come close to a good pestle and mortar though. I put the thought to the back of my mind, but it kept reappearing every time I was making a dressing or a marinade so I decided to try and come up with my own invention. It started out as a personal challenge but as the ideas came I suddenly realised that I was on to something

It's probably the time factor that puts most of you off making a nice marinade or rub to go over your meat or fish for supper, so that you probably settle for eating something plain, when you could be rustling up all sorts of quick flavour combos to liven things up. Does that sound about right? Or you just can't be bothered to use lots of energy bashing things up, especially if there is lots of mess to clear away afterwards?"

oh piss off jamie.

Stupidly tight at the top, Hartlepool won again, Stockport and Wycombe won to claw their way back into it.

3 'easy' games in a row and we've started by not putting Darlington away. Hopefully we'll get a decent response at Barnet and Chester at home.

3 games without a win would suggest we're in a slump, but we're only 3 points off the lead and have a game in hand.

it will be interesting to hear what those at the game say about the strikers' performance - is it time for lucas and/or sturrock to start, or for a loan striker to come in?

As I said, I reckon we need a goalscorer. I reckon with a 20 goal striker we'd be pissing this league.

Completely agree.  I was thinking towards the end of January that Sturrock was cutting things a little fine in signing a goal scorer.  It was a no brainer...I simply assumed that he would be signing one.  And now we haven't, I think we're paying the price.  There is now every possibility that we may just come to regret not signing a striker come May.

We missed Williams today commanding the back 4. The Ref and linesman was a joke. My final point would be why was not the gate open to let the fans out and a the steward was a right cocky cunt to my dad and to others then some bloke rarred up at him and he got defensive.

GUtted about today - feels like a loss. Played well for thirty minutes just about sums it up. Should have been out of sight, we really had enough chances too. It was an absolute stone wall penalty too, if it wasn't it was a corner at the least - somehow a goal kick was given.

Thought Roberts played well today, was influential in our 30 mins of good play. Peacock really good in the first half and shakes ok too. Second half forget any good appearances from a town player - it was bollocks. Apart from a good cross from Roberts and good header from Peacock that was well saved. Thought Brown was fairly useless.

I was thinking this game would be a draw. Just had a feeling it would be tricky and I think we've just started to fall apart a little in the last 4 or so games. It seems that the 3 or so major promotion chasing teams (with the exception of Walsall) appear to really be kicking on now and I don't think we have enough to compete with them.

And why does Sturrock completely fuck up the system when other teams score? The players look lost when he does that

and results could dip. There's not much doubt that more fans in the county ground spur the players on more.

And why does Sturrock completely fuck up the system when other teams score? The players look lost when he does that
Done it for the last three games and we have completely lost our shape each time. He's got to learn that moving Peacock to midfield does not work and isn't worth doing just to get  Blair on.

Score in a brothel,
We couldn't score in a brothel,
Score in a brothel,
We couldn't score in a brothel.

the club put a shit load of extra stewards in the arkells, fooking nightmare to get to my seat...and they all seamed to be quite angry for some reason

They knew there was going to be a group of fans meeting up at 2.45 in the Arkells concourse, I heard a few of them talking about it. Hence the extra stewards and checking everybodies tickets trying to go through one of the doors up that end. Had a quick look back through some threads on here and it was only mentioned once...by Fred Elliott . So much for keeping it all hush hush.

1. Played well 1st half, should have scored 3 or 4.

2. Right from the word go in the second half, we seemed content to just sit back, and to defend our 1-0 lead. This was a mistake, because darlington had nothing to lose from then on, and we were trying to play defensively with a patched up back 4.

3. I know it is often said many times, but that referee actually was THE worst ref i ever did see. Gave endless free kicks for invisible fouls, and then when roberts lunges in at their left back, knee height, he just plays on. Beaggrs belief.

4. Sturrocks tactical changes baffled me again. We needed a goal, and so we took off what i thought were our 2 main attacking outlets, brown and roberts :? . It was then a repeat of the hartlepool game, with the ball coming straight back at us, because the only player who can win a header, was sent to wander aimlessley around midfield. How does that work??? :?  :?

5. Andy nicholas' marking is woeful. At fault for there goal today.

Sounds like we started off well.

People are saying Darlington should have been an easy game but they were on a roll before tpday. I think the fact that we shook them shows we are still a strong side. Just think, had Roberts hit that shot 6 inches lower we would probably have won and everything would seem different.

A win at Barnet and we are fine imo and I will remain optimistic about promotion as long as we stay in the top 4

More like, if we got the penalty it would have been different! We would have won with an adequate ref from the first half alone, wouldn't have mattered if the second half was shite!

Roberts long range effort, Brown firing wide from the angle, Peacock's penalty, Pook blazing wide   , goalie saving from Peacock's header...another day they go in and everyone's happy.  I didn't think Darlington were up to much particularly the striker who either shot 20 yards wide or completely missed the ball - he made Peacock look like Rooney
