Lapham doesn't sound too bitter does he   If he's so good he would have found a League/Conference team.

But, alas, the football scrapheap is not easy to get out of!

To be honest Lapham looked alright when he played Under Kingy a couple seasons back, but hey. Atleast his buddy Matty Bulman is playing in the Conference South (Salisbury City)

I don't think the youths get given enough of a chance. Rather than an endless stream of loan players to fill gaps, I'd prefer to see our youth players involved instead of a Premiership youngster.

I think he has a point sadly the main reason lots of these lads are released is because they simply aren't considered big enough.

The current Youth lads seem to be doing well inspite of the fact that they have a different Gaffer every week it rankles a bit with me when they call it David Byrnes side though obviously it is now his side.Any sucsess these lads gets is first and foremost down to  themselves,a Scouting policy introduced by Kingy to get "big old units" and a bit from each of a long long list of managers they have had over the last few years.

should have kept Lapham.

He could have done a job as back up right back to Jack Smith, and as a really make shift centre half.

I know I only saw him the once! but I thought he played well and took to pro football like a duck to water.

Just my opinion like....

We seem to give youth one or two games but not a run in the team...Garrard, Lapham, Stroud, Henry, Caton, Holgate, Taylor etc!

Obviously this'll happen under Sturrock as he has already shown more interest in the Youths as anyone has in a good while.

Not sure Rich, he's released Henry and Stroud and sent Holgate out to Macclesfield.

Personally I thought Stroud would have been perfectly capable at this level, the number of left-wingers we had only hindered him - shame he didn't come through a little earlier.

I'd like to see more of Wells really, he's looked decent enough when I've seen him in the yoofs/reserves/friendlies.

I think he's aiming concentrate and the Cup run kids and educate them the way he wants too. Perhaps, he felt it was too late for the likes Henry and Stroud. I am only speculating here.

Holgate isn't finished yet (?) and Wells has been kept for a good reason I'm sure.

It's a case of having to wait and see but he put alot of faith in his youths at Sheffield Wednesday.

IIRC, Garrard had quite a run in the first team during the 04/05 season.

Didn't he used to blow chunks at half time during every game. And he actually threw up on the pitch at Sheffield Wednesday.

None of those got/get a run in the team as they would have significantly weakened the aformentioned team.

Are you seriously telling me you would have just dumped Henry at centre back for 5 games if Williams got injured?  Decisions like that can cost managers their jobs; especially at clubs that are expected to be promoted

I'd love to see more local lads coming through the ranks, sadly most of them are at best medicore and as a consequence end up playing local non league football.

Could have dumped Henry in a centre back for few games towards the end of last season when we were all ready fucked and relegated?

I guess because we dont do cup runs, it doesnt help but you can never be so sure how someone will cope untill you try them.

For all we know Henry could have come in and been excellent. The only time I saw him play alongside CCP he was by far the better of the two on the night.

David Stroud good example, Iffy start him and everyone was a bit shocked, many didnt know who he was and he was bloody awesome that game. Has to be in the top 3 of Town debuts within recent years. Got injured next game and never got a chance.

That one game may have been a one off fluke, but in that game alone he showed me enough that he could have been a decent player at this level.

Plus, I'm not 100% convinced starting Stroud, Henry, Lapham, Holgate and Caton would have made last seasons team any worse!!!

tricky one this,i'm sure lapham feals agreived that he didn't make the grade along with the others mentioned.and maybe they didn't get the chances they hoped they deserved.but surely if they were good enough they would have got a chance?pook has, holgate has, juckie has, caton has,so i'm guessing they weren't good enough or they would have got more of a chance to shine.

The bottom line is that none of those that have been released are even playing conference standard football now. This is because they are not very good.

Caton was breaking into the team then got injured. Can't really complain about that one. I expect he will be back around the team when he's fit again.

I think the person who did most for our youths was Iffy as he gave them a decent chance. Holgate, Lukas, Caton, Stroud all got games under him I think and he knew them well. Wise started off alright and then buggered off to Leeds so can't really judge him
