Title: Liverpool takeover

I find it funny that those tossers were laughing at Manures American takeover and look what has happened, saying it would never happen to them.
I wonder want their name will be now Liverpool Red Sox, Liverpool Stealers?

It's the cold war all over again:

America vs Russia = Liverpool / Man Utd vs Chelsea.

I hate Liverpool FC, but wo'n't go into that right now.  as for the takeover, to be honest I'm getting a little bit peeved at the way the UK's football teams are slowly but surely going down the foreign player/foreign manager/ foreign owner road.  No sense of belonging when the club you support is predominately foreign.  I may as well start supporting Barcelona full time then become a premiership fan.

Having said that I read with interest the comments of Gillett (new Liverpool geezer), he said he does not see himself as the owner of Liverpool FC, just a trustee of the club, to take care of the club, for the fans.  If only some of our board looked at running the club in that way.

Aside from the odd slip 'Liverpool Reds' and the word franchise these guys seem to have the interests of the club at heart to a certain extent, the normally 'morlaistic' scousers haven't been cooing so it muct be OK!  They do appear to respect the traditions of the club, but somehow it wouldn't seem right if Liverpool followed Arsenal into a new Plastic Bowl.

Fact is - if there's no British company/businessman that can/wants to buy in to a football club then what choice do these businesses have?

It is a shame that it's beginning to happen to lower league teams (Blackpool) because that's where the "fan" has always been closer to the club.

Liverpool and Villa both had offers from originally local businessmen who were fans, but in both cases thigns never materialised, frankly both clubs have been looked after in a pretty 'traditional' manner, by families who have genuine affiliation to them, and whilst there is big money on the table I think they'd be reluctant to let any old businessman take over if they didn't think it was right.  If one has the benefits of being a PLC one must also live with the potential consequences.
