Title: Policeman Killed in Italy Post by: Summerof69 on Friday, February 2, 2007, 22:40:03 It's about time the Italian FA did something about the hooligan element in Italy. They are very reluctant to do anything.
Over the last few years there has been a lot of racist chanting, which has resulted in petty fines, and there are the 'Ultra' fans at Inter Milan, Lazio and Roma who seemingly can do what they want in the ground. It's time they closed grounds, and took the problem seriously. Even UEFA didn't have the guts to ban Inter Milan from Europe when their Ultra fans threw flares in a semi-final against rivals AC Milan a few years ago, when the game was abandoned because of it. Flares need to be banned from the grounds. The fans who attend the games need to be searched before the enter the ground so they don't have any weapons on them. Also to stop the violence after the game, keep the away fans in the stadium for around 30 mins so the home fans can get out of the stadium safely. This also a talk that the leagues could be suspended for a year and this will scupper Italy get Euro 2012. Title: Policeman Killed in Italy Post by: cavpete on Saturday, February 3, 2007, 10:44:06 If this happened in england, we would be banned from every club competiton in europe. Also loads of games played behind closed doors.
Title: Policeman Killed in Italy Post by: mattboyslim on Saturday, February 3, 2007, 11:23:49 From what I've read the Italian matches have no stewards, just police who observe from affar, it means identifying individuals is very difficult compared to England, where the perpatrators can be easily identified.

Flares are already banned, and fans are 'searched' by the police before the game. The problem is that the police are usually local people who have friends or are 'in' with the Ultras. Certain clubs give their Ultras free tickets and basically let them do what they like. Inter fans got a fucking scooter into the top tier, set it on fire and chucked it onto the terrace below! Fucking nuts! Things happen all the time that would get English clubs banned. Last year Ascoli fans shot a flare through a pipe into visiting Sampdoria fans at the other end of the stadium. I used to go and watch Ancona play in Serie C2 and there were always flares being lit and chucked onto the pitch. The police are entirely to blame I reckon. They simply let things happen then when it gets really, really serious they step into the middle of it, but it's already too late. last nights stuff happens all the time (although not with policemen being killed). Brescia v Atalanta regularly has deaths. And it's all political. Livorno v Lazio is carnage, just because the clubs are traditionally left and right wing. They really need to sort it out. Title: Policeman Killed in Italy Post by: Spud on Saturday, February 3, 2007, 13:28:20 We all know the Italians like attacking innocent families....just ask Middlesborough & West Ham.
Title: Policeman Killed in Italy Post by: Scot Munroe on Saturday, February 3, 2007, 18:35:56 They do need to stop this from happening. This is not an Isolated Incident. A livorno fan got stabbed in Florence last week, their was trouble in the Atalanta-Catania game. In a Serie D game a linesman got his by a drum which was thrown from the growd. On the same day a club official of an amaetur(spelling) club was killed on the pitch trying to stop a fight where he got kicked in the head and died.
Title: Policeman Killed in Italy Post by: Devon Red on Saturday, February 3, 2007, 18:42:40 As many people have said it's uter chaos over there. They need to bring the power back to the officials and the club and away from the fans. If this did happen in England then I don't think we'd ever grace a European competition ever again.
Title: Policeman Killed in Italy Post by: Spud on Saturday, February 3, 2007, 20:09:14 The fact is that the footballing authorities don't do fuck all to the Italians.
Like Devon Red said if this was us we would be banned from every European competition going. Title: Policeman Killed in Italy Post by: Leggett on Saturday, February 3, 2007, 21:16:49 fucking rediculous state of affairs.

Title: Policeman Killed in Italy Post by: Spencer_White on Sunday, February 4, 2007, 19:41:11 Youre all going well overboard about us being banned in the same circumstances.
A steward was trampled to death at Villa Vs QPR a couple of seasons ago and neither team got any sort of ban. It was all passed off inside a week. Whilst obviously a death of a policeman is tragic, and his death was entirely the fault of these supporters. It has to be said that loyalties to football clubs run deeper in Italy, football hasnt been sanitised as it has over here. The money made by Serie A obviously isnt sufficient to justify hundreds (and hundreds) of millions of euros being spent on banning orders. You also have to put into the context that the rule of law in southern Italy and its control over crime is very weak. Just as is ours over nationalist areas of Northern Ireland and particularly Belfast. Its not the case of stopping a few flares. Sad that Italy might not get the Euro's because of this. They desperately need the update of stadia. And I think they deserve another major championships. Title: Policeman Killed in Italy Post by: Scot Munroe on Sunday, February 4, 2007, 21:17:35 some of the stadia in italy are awful they are rundown and need of re-devlopment badly.
