Title: Potential Signings
Post by: Stef Troll on Tuesday, January 30, 2007, 21:56:05
Sturrock just said 2 are in the pipeline,  one permanent and one on loan.

One player is nearly a done deal, whilst the other is touch and go.

All will be revealed tomorrow i guess :D

Surely it must be the permanent signing that is close because how can a loan signing be touch and go - because cant football league clubs still loan people outside the window?

that or he means its touch and go whether the permanent signing wants to come or not?

Sturrock said yesterday that he doesn't want to upset the balance and morale of the team by brining in loads of new players.  The team in unbeaten in 2007, and he says it would be unfair to bring new players in who will then automatically be a first team starter.  So im guessing for the near future, our starting 11 will remain the same (baring suspension and injuries).

Title: Potential Signings
Post by: mattboyslim on Wednesday, January 31, 2007, 11:18:59
I think he's looking at squad back-up.  It seems his main first team targets have been hard to come by, and he'll target the areas where we are really short (the right flank?), giving us cover for the thick end of the season.  Hopefully promotion will come nonetheless and it'll allow him to find players in the summer when we have significant squad turnover, and if we're in a higher league we'll be able to be a more attractive proposition (you never know we might even have a certain wealthy chap at the helm by then?).  Even if we make an signing or two I'm not expecting anyone that exactly sets the pulse racing!

I'd say that was the closer to being completed permy signing.

The outside chance would be a striker/midfielder on loan I reckon. Though the way Luggy said Blair may be here a bit longer yet I'd guess at a midfilder. Then again Evans is close to return isn't he? Oh I don't know.

I suspect LB isn't a priority, vincent isn't too far away and Sofie was signed as a potential left back.  Spare keeper is kind of a essential, but the loan system always gives you cover if needed.

Well not technically true we do have Charlie Comyn Platt who can come it at left back don't we? certainly worth giving a go, as far as I can remember Charlie has very rarely let us down when given a chance.

As was Blair Sturrock.

If the loan player was the one Sturrock was close to closing, then there might be no news tonight.

I don't think there's gonna be a permanent signing, which doesn't really worry me tbh.

Got a very decent squad already for league 2, as our position shows.

saw that on thisis - if we let CCP go to bloomin Rochdale, we're not only letting a decent and versatile player leave to a go to a rubbish football club, we're also then relying on Nico as the only cover at Centre back, which he can hardly do when he's at left back. We would have 5 senior defenders - Williams, Ifil, Smith, Nico and Vincent in the whole squad.

Now you could argue that they're all we've needed so far....but we've been lucky with injuries and Jerel's bound to be sent off sometime before the end of the season

I for one am glad this Transfer Window is coming to a close as I've done very little work this month because of procrastination due to browsing to see if there had been any developments.

If we do sign someone it'll be a great anti-climax. I want to say that the allowing of Holgate to join Macclesfield means someone is joining, doubt that it the case though.

Suprised Weston didn't move on but that's a positive in my books. He, Timlin, Evans (if fit), Pook, Zaboub, Shakes and Brown all competing for midfileld places is a good thing.

Defense has enough cover too.

SO we are a bit short on the  a right hand side mid/winger and a striker but we'll be OK.

We've only got two proper centre-backs, Williams and Ifil, with a left-back and a centre-forward as cover.

If Williams is out then I'd worry as Ifil could drop back into old habits.

As Yeovil states he was at the game last night .. and according to the website he was .. tho I doubt anyone would have recognised him .. I dont put lies down here .. just whatever I can get out of people in the know ..

apparently loan signing is still possible some time this week as you can sign players on loan at any time - even after the window is shut
