Title: Bostons Steve Evans - Comments Post by: Luci on Monday, January 22, 2007, 00:02:58 Nice to see a Manager praising our efforts and wanted to post something not related to consortium/board/trust etc. for a change;
Quote Evans praised his players for their efforts and spoke about the qualities that Swindon have. He told bufc.co.uk: “There is no doubt Swindon Town will get promoted. They are an excellent team with the resources to mount a serious title challenge. Paul Sturrock told me yesterday his players are on more of a win bonus per game than the majority of the players at Boston United get in wages. “As I said before the match, we can match them for effort and commitment but the bigger resources get you the quality that wins matches and that is the same at all levels of football. Taken from bufc.co.uk Further down the article he still continues to go on about the penalty decision but couldn't be bothered to drag that up. Guess you win some and lose some but good when other Managers see us as a strong capable side. Title: Bostons Steve Evans - Comments Post by: mattboyslim on Monday, January 22, 2007, 08:43:52 Any how our crowds are three times what they get, we should be paying more money out. And remember we're in the black after someone turned around a £14m deficit!!!

Title: Bostons Steve Evans - Comments Post by: reeves4england on Monday, January 22, 2007, 16:05:53 Maybe their overall wages aren't all that high though? Win bonuses may make up a large percentage of the total sum for all we know
Title: Bostons Steve Evans - Comments Post by: Frigby Daser on Monday, January 22, 2007, 17:19:10 Boston are as small as they come - wages of £400-500 p/w aren't out of the question - it's still a decent salary for the man on the street, so a £400-500 bonus for a win doesn't seem unreasonable - always thought wages should be bonus-led anyway.
If we talking four figures, then clearly thats ridiculous. Title: Bostons Steve Evans - Comments Post by: lebowski on Monday, January 22, 2007, 19:20:34 the average wage at accrington stanley is £27,500.
that's per year. Title: Bostons Steve Evans - Comments Post by: mattboyslim on Monday, January 22, 2007, 19:25:47 I'm, guessing perhaps falsely so that we pay reasonably low wages given our cash flow. It seems to be a reason for missing some signings, so I assume other options at a similar level of football are able offer high wages. Accrington are just oput of the conference with tiny crowds and alongside Boston, Macc, Torquay and Rochdale would reasonably be expected to offer the lowest wages in the league. I guess Peterboorugh are the highest by a distance alongside the Dongs

Title: Bostons Steve Evans - Comments Post by: DMR on Monday, January 22, 2007, 19:30:33 Boston are one of those irritating, middle of nowhere clubs that hold no interest for me other than go there once so I can say I've done it.
Nothing against them and probably always going to be good for 6 points but a bit of an uninspiring club. Title: Bostons Steve Evans - Comments Post by: Samdy Gray on Monday, January 22, 2007, 19:30:53 We pay peanuts in wages, but give ridiculously high bonuses.

We got denied promotion to the top division for a similar but lesser offence, they've been able to carry on regardless. They deserve everything they get. The FA are always going to shit on the small teams so it's not as if they'll be setting a precedence. Title: Bostons Steve Evans - Comments Post by: Spencer_White on Monday, January 22, 2007, 21:17:50 Just because we got punnished so suverely doesnt make it right to punish other clubs like that. To me that would be partly condoning the punishment that we were given. I doubt ANY club will ever be punnished as suverely as we were in 1990, we really did get the most unjust treatment. It was OK to hate Spurs because they basically bribed their way out of it. They were able to throw money at the problem until it sorted itself out.
Of the teams that have come up from the conference in the last 10 years, Boston have been one of the better ones. I worry about clubs like Boston not making it in the football league. They were a classic conference club and had some good interesting battles in the scumford division. Used to enjoy watching them on sky. Also from a personal point of view at least they provide a decent away end to watch football. They still have more about them than the likes of Accrington, Bury, Chester, Macc Town, Cheltenham, Franchise. There are 6 worse clubs in the football league. :wink: Title: Bostons Steve Evans - Comments Post by: sonic youth on Monday, January 22, 2007, 21:23:38 It doesn't change the fact that Boston cheated their way into the football league in my eyes and I don't see how it condones the punishment we received, anyone with half a brain would realise it was ridiculously over the top. It irks me to see teams get away with pulling all sorts of stunts when I think how different our history could have been.
The away end looked nice on telly, steep, low roof. Shame I probably won't get the chance to go there again. Title: Bostons Steve Evans - Comments Post by: Spencer_White on Monday, January 22, 2007, 21:27:48 Football was better when everyone was on the fiddle. It seemed to even things out!
Title: Bostons Steve Evans - Comments Post by: RobertT on Monday, January 22, 2007, 22:14:22 Quote from: "sam_stfc" We pay peanuts in wages, but give ridiculously high bonuses. Not really. Bob Holt was the one who brought up the bonuses as a big issue, and he said at the time they could cost us £200-£250k over a season if everything went right on the field. Hardly huge. |
