Title: Snowboarding Post by: Bob's Orange on Tuesday, January 9, 2007, 19:49:21 I'm a bit of a virgin when it comes to snow but this weekend I am being dragged along to some indoor skiing centre in France in a town called Amnieville. Apparently it has real snow and I am going to attempt snowboarding for the first time ever. 30 Euro for 2 hours of falling over seems a tad expensive for me though!!
Anyone else been on the slopes? Title: Snowboarding Post by: Chubbs on Tuesday, January 9, 2007, 19:53:33 not being snowboaring but was a bit of a frequent skier a few years back, its great fun, blades are cool aswell, they are small banana shapped skis maybe a foot and a half long, and you dont use poles, they got fast.
skiing is suprisingly easy to get hold of, and is great fun, but not when you nearly fall off a mountain ledge tho. Title: Snowboarding Post by: Danjackson10 on Tuesday, January 9, 2007, 19:53:52 I have only been skiing! Gonna book my winter holiday this sunday! In my opinion skiing is easier, i was on my ass all the time when i snowboarded! iTS ACE FUN THOUGH!!

Cheap as chips mate You'll have an ace time ! Just remember to try and behave a bit surfer dude ok ? Title: Snowboarding Post by: Barry Scott on Tuesday, January 9, 2007, 21:26:13 I used to Snowboard. It's the only sport worth taking seriously on the slopes. If you're a virgin 2 hours won't get you too far, you'll learn you edges and how to stop. That'll be about it.
I do recommend it though, you'll enjoy it and it will give you a head start should you hit the real shit. The first day will seem hard, or at least the first few hours, so a head start won't hurt. It then becomes second nature. Wait till you start laying down those carves when taking the beast through powder. Ohhhhh, dreamy! 8) Title: Snowboarding Post by: Leggett on Tuesday, January 9, 2007, 22:27:28 i really want to start snowboarding. think i might investigae the milton keynes snowdome-y thing, see how much that is to learn!!!
Title: Snowboarding Post by: Leggett on Wednesday, January 10, 2007, 00:17:47 £150 for an all day session. ACE
Title: Snowboarding Post by: Bob's Orange on Sunday, January 14, 2007, 09:52:34 The snowboarding was great fun, I would recommend it. We paid 35 Euro for 2 hours and hire of full equipment. At the start I couldn't stand up, but eventually and after a number of attempts I managed to keep my balance and stop without falling over! Felt much more confident towards the end and will maybe attempt to go up the big hill next time, although I would be feared of the 8 year old Austrian kids who can ski like legends!!
Title: Snowboarding Post by: Sussex on Sunday, January 14, 2007, 10:59:19 Went snowboarding with the lads to Val d'Isere a few years ago. Too much like exercise for my liking, and spent most of the time sliding down steep hills on my arse!
Horses for courses though. Kinky Tom broke his back and went back again this season. Give us an SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Title: Snowboarding Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, January 15, 2007, 14:28:40 Indeed I did my good man - we need some snow rather desperately out here as it goes.
As for snowboarding - if you can commit to looking like an arse for a while you'll get through it and realise it was worth it. Title: Snowboarding Post by: Danjackson10 on Monday, January 15, 2007, 14:30:42 Im booking my holiday this week KT! Is the snow pretty crap in france at the moment?
Title: Snowboarding Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, January 15, 2007, 14:54:14 Yeah, it is - we're one of the better resorts because of our altitude but there's been rain in many resorts and some are closed. Make sure you think hard about where to go - do research etc. don't want to pay out a shed load and be disappointed.
Title: Snowboarding Post by: mattboyslim on Monday, January 15, 2007, 14:58:04 Hopefully there'll be snow at the end of february when I make my alpine debut. I think i'll board, because whatever I try I'll fall over and look a tit, but I think i'll look cooler being an idiot with a snowboard attached to my feet.
Title: Snowboarding Post by: Danjackson10 on Monday, January 15, 2007, 15:11:41 It is forecast to snow in france within the next few days! Not sure what austria is like at the moment, might have to check that out!
Title: Snowboarding Post by: Barry Scott on Monday, January 15, 2007, 15:30:32 Go to Whistler, B.C. Canada. Best place ever. Fact.
Title: Snowboarding Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, January 15, 2007, 15:33:16 Two of my mates were there for the season a couple of years back - worst season on record for a good few decades apparently.
Title: Snowboarding Post by: Barry Scott on Monday, January 15, 2007, 15:42:30 I went there 15 years ago, the first time i got on a board. It was heavenly. No queues and runs wider than any i've seen. The powder and double diamonds were pretty special as well. Not that i'd of touched a double diamond, they were merely for skiers with little brains or will to live.
Title: Snowboarding Post by: ron dodgers on Monday, January 15, 2007, 17:55:16 just got back from Flaine - fucking hell it was hot and rain at 2500m what is that all about? Need snow now - good luck if you're going soon
Title: Snowboarding Post by: reeves4england on Monday, January 15, 2007, 19:57:18 SNOWBOARDING IS ACE
I have done it a few times at the indoor place at Castleford (much the same as the one at Milton Keynes by all accounts). Expensive but a great laugh and I would spend a lot of time doing it if I didn't live so bloody far away! Title: Snowboarding Post by: Leggett on Monday, January 15, 2007, 23:43:31 whistler is a mountain biking venue during the un-snowy periods. infact, its regarded as THE mountain-biking venue, very much the "in" place to go.
