... and I feel thoroughly excited about the rest of the season. Some thoughts from today.

1. Our fans were immense
2. Palace's were shit
3. We played some incredible football. OK in final third a bit ropey, but some of the football was tidy as fook. With a Rodgers type striker we may have absolutely shat all over them today - I'd be worried if I was Peter Taylor.
4. Timlin rocks
5. So does Ifil
6. Shakes played well I thought. Roberts ok for 45 minutes, looked poor second half.
7. Williams looks slower every week
8. How shit is kuqi?
9. Why, when they played so badly, did their players substituted get a standing ovation?!
10. Pook. Again poor for me. Some neat passing but got nutmegged and towards the end kept shooting from 30 yards. Stop it you idiot!

POOK MOM?! Fuck me, what game was he watching? He wasn;t as bad as he has been but he bottled several challenges and gave the ball away too cheaply late in the game. How can timlin not be man of the match?  He was class today.

Some of the football we played, my dad said he hasn't seen stuff like that since the hoddle days. Bit too far, but you get the picture! The confidence oozing throuhg the side - i.e. players coming to get the ball from smith - i just couldnt believe how much we should have shat on them. A striker and we could have embarassed them good and proper.

Our fans were so quality today, f*****g immense - palace had no idea what hit em.

Hes a midfielder neat passing is what hes there to do and theres nothing wrong with shooting now and then,As for getting megged so what shit happens.

Not abusing, just saying I thought he was shit today. In a team that excelled itself I thought he was the weak link. And bullshit - he should be contributing more than neat passes! That's what timlin does and he's far better at it. Getting forward, supporting the forwards and getting into shooting positions (closer than 30 yards out) - dominating the midfield. Only my opinion. I thought he was good at MK, shit today.

I'm not one for abusing players, but I'm not gonna sit here and say he was quality when I thought he was poor today am I. He was good last week, not today - simple. You can't polish a turd.

pook was utter cack on monday and aparently MOM today, i didint go today so i cant really say but from what phil king was saying he was immense, i still think he's a twat, haha.

If Weston or Evans weren't injured, Sturrock probably wouldn't have picked Pook, so I'm not sure that is rating him.  He was awful on Monday but he does get alot of unwarrented abuse.  I thought he was decent against Wycombe and not so bad against Notts County.

it sounded like a really good game on the radio and i agree we were way better than palace. I just hope we can bring this formation and spirit into the league, if we play like that week in week out we are sure to go up

Any way, I think this has all gone off at a bit of a tangent from what was originally a very positive post. It sounds like we were 'kin ace today and once Luggy irons out our one or two glaring short-comings we will finish in the top three, no worries!

I'm pretty confident we can achieve that.  I like the way Sturrock understates what is obviously everyones ambition by talking about the play-offs.  He knows what he's doing by saying that, and I personally don't think we'd have been doing any better had Wise stayed.

I don't think we would be doing as well under Wise. Diddy Dennis did a great job but under him I think we would have been looking at play offs at best. Under the Lugmeister automatic promotion is a very realistic aim indeed.

Today was a great day out,despite being quite dissapointed that we didn't come back with atleast a replay I once again feel truly proud of my team  :D
Fans were INCREDIBLE, what an atmosphere. From beginning to end, did'nt stop singing. The team played brilliant,Ifil,timlin,booooooooooob,smith,vincent and williams inparticular I thought were qualitay. ALOT of positives to pick up from the game and take back into the league with us. I now firmly believe we could win the league if we try and pick up some consistancy,because on our day we know for a fact we can totally outplay anyone in league 2.The boys should feel very proud of themselves. And so can rockin robin.

Oh and palace,Crap view,The stands are too far away from the pitch!They're steep and far back and those gurt pillars pissed me off a bit.

me and a mate actually sat opposite with the palace fans today as our manager is a palace supporter, so it was amazing to see all the swindon fans.

Palace did not look that impressive but they always looked more likely to get the ball in the net although our build up play was far better than theirs.

being with the palace fans was interesting and so was watching and hearing the swindon fans.

very vocal at the start then went quiet for a while but second-half were just excellent.

I agree with what someone else said saying that they praised their players to easily and seemed happy with the way they were playing when i though they did not really impress as much considering some of the players they have in their side.

They fans were impressed with roberts and jack smith more than anyone.

I personally thought timlin ran the show for us today.

All the players did well really but we need a striker more so than ever now i think.

All the build up play was so good it just need someone making the right run to get on the end of it and i don't think peacock, roberts or lucas is gonna do it.

lets hope this rodgers signs and finishes off the final peice.

Every player played well today bar Roberts and Pook (2nd half), Timlin was MOTM for me,he got hold of the ball alot and looked calm simply knocking it about.

It did look really good seeing all you lot huddled together as a mass :)

Yep there were impressed with roberts but took major piss out of the fact that alot of our players were wearing gloves, heard my manager calling zaboob le glove at one point and did you notice that roberts did not change his shirt at half time but he changes his gloves? :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:

Alse notice that aaron browns kit was pure white at the end of the game, he nearly went to ground......once.

It's interesting that some of you were saying that you were singing throughout but there were long periods where you were quiet.

I listened on the radio so obviously we lost again :cry: i'm not going to do it again for the rest of this season,promise. Sounds like it was a good day out :beers: I haven't been to a single FA cup game this season :(

All in all I don't think we deserved to lose and it was quite a good match. Peacock, Vincent, Ifil, Williams and Shakes all had good games with I hate to say it but Shakes probably looking our best player.
As people on here said Pook didn't have his worst game but he has no influence on the game and his negative points far out weigh any positive points. Timlin is in the team for his ball playing, Zaaboub for his skill, why is Pook in it? He should be the box to box midfielder who breaks up attacks and starts new ones. Instead his first consideration is to either pass backwards or sideways, most good work he does is as a result of needing to make amends for an error. And he has zero positional sense and is generally just lost on the pitch.  Can't help but think the fact he is local allows him to get the benefit of the doubt in many peoples eyes.
If a player convinces me otherwise I will change my opinion but Pook isn't even good enough for the conference. Earlier in the season I said Vincent wasn't good enough but he was very good today so if a player performs I will give praise where it is due.

However after 13 games of Sturrock being in charge some things are really starting to worry me...........were 1-0 then subsequently 2-0 down in the FA cup, Palace get a corner and he brings everybody back, why? surely we should leave someone up field so we can get the ball out.
Also his tactics, why when we were 1-0 down with 20 minutes left did his double substitution involve taking off our best midfielder (Zaaboub) putting Peacock into midfield and Jukebox up front on his own. Eventually it panned out that Peacock went back up front and Jukebox went on the right by the looks of things. For 10 minutes after his substitutions we couldn't get the ball which just further made them seem weird changes, finally Pook (who as I said didn't have his worst game but was a passenge) got replaced and suddenly we started attacking again with 2 strikers up top. Is anyone else slightly confused about alot of his tactics? At times it seemed as though Sturrock was happy to settle for a defeat and sit back and accept the 1-0 scoreline.
Also Sturrock moans we can't defend corners, well why doesn't he do something about it then, he's the manager so get it sorted. Main problem in my eyes is we haven't got a midfielder that can head it. Pook, Timlin, Roberts, Shakes and Zaaboub are all weak at heading, which only leaves Ifil, Williams and Peacock capable of clearing the danger.

I have no doubt Sturrock is a good manager I'm just sitting here very perplexed about his tactics.

-We were immense both on and off the pitch
-Palace were un-immense both on and off the pitch

-We played the better football and had them pegged back for long periods, and probably should have scored more. Having said that their guy wasted the glorious opertunity for 2-0

-Nobody played badly at all, but Pook was the least good as he went missing and allowed their midfield to close in on the goal area. I wish people would get over the fact that Roberts isn't crap. Today he was always available, made runs, won the ball, held the ball up and put crosses into the box aswell as winning corners and throw ins throughout

-"You've come a long way for nothing" .... have they even heard of Hartlepool?

My guess is that he is working on this daily in training but I suppose it doesn't just happen overnight.

He actually answered that one in the fans' forum I think. He basically said he was playing percentages. He said that you could leave one player up but the chances were that he would not get the ball any way so you might as well have that player back behind the ball helping to get it away.

I can see the logic of that.

As I said further on in my post, I don't think we have the personnel suited to defend to corners. Barring Peacock, Ifil and Williams we are very weak in the heading department

Yeah but by leaving say your worst defender up field it means the opposition have to leave an extra player or 2 at the back also reducing there attacking options. Most other teams seem to leave players up field and the Wednesday fans didn't understand it either if I remember rightly

I don't get it either, but then I've never got a football league team promoted apart from on Football Manager.  Every manager has his little foibles, even Sir Alex, so I don't think let it worry me.....yet :wink:

I agree to a certain extent, but some of GlosReds comments are valid IMO.

13 games is quite a time to get things sorted.

Unfortunately, the way I see it, is certain players loose concentration and "switch" off for a second which gives a clued up forward all the time he needs to peel off and find space etc.

Mental strength and agility may take more than 13 games to resolve

There's not much Sturrock can do about players 'switching off' is there?

Apart from replace them that is. Once they cross the white line and all that.

Let's see how he changes thing round in the transfer window, after which time it will be much more 'his' team.

even when we have everyone back at a corner, most opposition teams will still leave two players back. like someone else said, with just one player up field and two defenders on him, the chances are that the ball is going to come straight back anyway so we may as well have some numerical superiority for the initial corner, and then still have that numerical superiority for the second phase of the attack.

Don't know if you noticed, but we also employed the 'all men back at corners' tactic. Like you, the extra man didn't really stop us from conceding! I just don't see the logic of it.

A mention today for our full backs-both defended well and also effective going forward.Vincent's best game that I've seen.Talking with some Palace fans after,they were impressed with Ifil and Shakes.

In my honest opinion I didnt think that was the best away support weve had.  Ok numbers were good but we werent that loud in my opinion.  The pub before the game was loud but inside I didnt think we were that great.  I was at teh front on teh right so maybe that affected it.

Well it has been said somewhere that from the other side of the ground we souned very good. I think like you say the fact you were at the front also has an effect

Pook's corners drive me mental, you just know they are gonna be terrible.  I did notice the first away swinger from Brown got us a goal, just something I always prefer the inswingers unless with great pace are too difficult to get power into.

like someone mentioned earlier, was very shocked by his double substitution of zaboub and roberts for brown and jutkiewicz (or shakes or whoever, cant remember) but anyway i thought zaboob and roberts looked like our most creative players by a mile and by taking them off we pretty much threw away our chance of a draw, thats how i see it anyway.

another thing, pook bashing is all well and good, he did alright on saturday again. im more angered by ricky shakes i think he's fucking awful and i hate him. he never EVER looks like he could finish a chance (MK at home last year, and a few other sitters and easy headers that he has fucked in the past) as we all know he cant cross for shit, never looks in control of the ball and isn't that fast. get rid asap, absolute passenge. and for my money, with sturrock's philosophies and systems, right wing is one of the most important positions on the feild.

im hoping if we got rodgers, robbo will play on the right permanently.
