Title: The Chase Is On
Post by: hansgruber on Thursday, January 4, 2007, 17:31:16
Sturrock says something very interesting on the official site:

"There is money involved and there are things happening at this football club which by the time next week comes, people will understand."

So who's he sold to raise the cash? Has he convinced Wise to buy Brezovan even though he's injured? Monkhouse will go, but we won't get much from that surely?

Obviously someone we don't want to leave is going tomorrow, I'd guess Weston. Then presumably we'll make a fairly big signing next week.

i think its an incoming signing.if not the board will only distance themselves further from supporters if a popular player was to be sold

I think he's definitely trying to say that he's making himself unpopular by selling one of our better/more popular players, but we should wait and see who he's signing as a result...

The Monkhouse deal is done, just need the rubber stamp. Plus I don't think his sale will upset most fans

strange, I read into it that the club had come close to agreeing some sort of investment from the un-named individual.  If that was the case then I'm hoping it's more than £1.75m as I'd rather we paid debts and secured the club than used it on players.

Who would everyone be most gutted about losing?

Would be Ifil or Jack Smith for me. Weston would be a blow but not a massive one, I would rather he stayed though. I wouldn't be surprised if Wise payed a fair amount for Weston....

What happens if player that Sturrock's after doesn't want to come after we've sold a player to get him? (presuming that is the case of course)

I'm mostly not too fussed who we sell, as long as it is Sturrocks choice. He is the man who is charged with the task of building a squad to take the club forward over the next 2/3 seasons, so as long as he is making the descisions then I will trust they are the right ones.

Personally having a strange feeling that this could be another hand from the board either they have secured some additional investment or scraped together some money to buy a player and I am guessing they think by bringing in what we have to assume to be a good player at this level they are going to win over the fans that are undecided on who to back them or the consortium.

Dont get me wrong I would love a top signing who will help us make a swift return to league 1 but the CVA has to be the priority.

Am I just being synical or is anyone on the same wavelength  :|

All sturrock said is that there's things happening at this football club, meaning don't worry that we aint signed anyone yet, we soon will. I don't think that means anyone is going who will upset us. Anyone who Sturrock thinks can play in League 1 will be staying here unless the offer is too good to refuse.

There' s no way we'd get Timlin on a permanent deal either I don't reckon.

Without wishing to imply criticism, it would be better for Luggy not to make such nebulous statements.....we've been subject to so much crap down the years, that we're bound to think the worst.

Things happening at this football club can be interpreted as just about anything, and experience tells us, its not usually good news.

I dont think we should be selling off our 'first team' players at all, not if we are serious about promotion.

However, Weston is only on a one year contract. He is now(?) free to talk to other clubs. As far as I know we havent offered him a new contract so he is a free agent in the summer. We know how highly Dennis Wise thinks of him. I expect him to be sold off

Lukas, however signed a 3 year deal at the start of the season. Although we might be offered good money for him we have no reason to sell. He cant escape and go on a free any time soon. We're in the driving seat with Lukas because he's under contract for another two and a half years

Under 23 though so if he goes in the summer it'll go to a tribunal.

The way i read it was that something is going to happen next week which will explain how we can afford to pay a club for a player.

Remember when all the serious stuff started with the consortium, the current board said that they were in negotiations with two investors. Now I might be wrong, but wasn't them an entrepreneur of some description who knew sir seton?. Could this person have stumped up some cash? First time I read what Sturrock said I didn't think it implied selling players - that could come in time tho. Plus he said it was a nominal fee - not a big amount

I thought investor (but that begs the question how much and are they paying the debts first as they should) but now I'm not so sure as they mentioned he was away until the New Year and had not entered due dilligence etc (so hasn't even checked the club out).  Now I'm just confused.

I think Monkhouse is the man on the way and for a fee. Then we are getting in someone with his fee.

Of course that could be a tad optimistic. Saying that, would Luggy be the man hinting at investors and the such? I suppose he could if funds had been put into place for him to spend but I would have thought the board would release this information. Unless they have made Sturrock butter us up.

Luke Rodgers is finalising personal terms with Luggy at present and will hopefulyl sign for a 'nominal fee' of £30K before the Wrexham game.

Monkhouse will be the only player leaving in the next few days for a higher price than most would at first guess - approx £100K

And I think you will find that the board have now tied up further investment which will be the news you will receive before Tuesday or Wednesday next week (maybe earlier) - This will cover the CVA payments required.

But Reg, sturrock has said before that he doesn't care for what's happened in the past - so at least he is kind of explaining why we haven't signed anyone yet – because things are in process.

Personally I don't think Roberts will go anywhere. With all the problems he's had I would have thought he'd want his family and friends around him. Could be wrong...

As for Timlin - no way will fulham let him come full time - he's highly thought of there and would cost us too much.

If I was a betting man - and we might all be reading too much into it - is that weston will go to leeds and rodgers and one other will come here, possibly abbott. I'd take that...

In terms of a fee being paid, chief executive Martyn Starnes confirmed last night that the nominal fee' in question had been found organically rather than as a result of a sudden influx of fresh cash..

It means that the money has been found from "inside the business"

Now that could mean through increased revenues (gate receipts etc)or reduction in base operating costs (shedding players wages, Wise & Poyet etc)

Strange when there are still creditors to satisfy and the CVA situation

Hmmmm .........

Rodgers will be a bargain for any League Two club. £50k. Crikey.

We've not had a problem with his since he came, and that with his two best twats Ryan Lowe and Darren Moss at the same club.

I believe he's improved ten fold since he came. Was a bit of a headless chicken at first but now thinks before acting, although he can be offside rather a lot.

I'd have liked to see him stay but he wants to go and there's no point in keeping anyone who wants to go. Should have had a better crack at the first team but Dario only ever played him up front with donkeys and has never tried him with one of Varney or Maynard, with who I think he'd be lethal.

Proved he can get sort of get goals in the Championship, hardly played this season but will definitely get goals in League Two. Will be a class signing.

He will also forever be a Crewe legend. 93rd minute dive for a penalty vs Port Fail, then scored it twice upon the request of the referee. Made Vale look fooools.

He does have a high opinion of himself but I'm sure Dario will beat the 'too good for league two' attitude out of him. A team with promotion hopes (more hope than Crewe) in League Two is probably the best he can hope for.

He's fairly fast but is more of a nuisance in that he'll give 100% every time and run for everything. Just one of those you love to hate when he doesn't play for you, but is a hero when he does play for you. As for heading, well I've never really seen him try and head the ball, never mind head it, so I'd take a guess that he's not. He's not the tallest in the world.

His strength is definitely stretching the defence and wiggling through large crowds. And diving.

£30k would be an insult if we hadn't got him for free.

he sounds like a carbon copy of roberts when he signed.

Indeed. That all describes Roberts down to a tee.

Meh.

I'm very underawed in that there's plenty of names I'd have over Luke Rodgers and I'm not panicking about losing anyone, anyone who goes including Lukas is utterly replacebale at this level, frankly.

Go lethargy.

He Rejected a move to hereford. I think it is a good signing. When he was a shrewsbury a lot of clubs were after him even a few Prem clubs aswell.

We're signing flammableBen on a 2 year deal for 3 bottles of red wine a day. Luggy was hoping for a 3 year deal but he'll probably be dead by then.

Not if he sees Roberts as a winger, which would appear to be the case.

How did you find out? I was told to keep it quiet until the club made an official anouncement.
