There's probably free mulled wine and mince pies, that's the norm at these sort of things. But you need to sing first.

FWIW, I'm not able to attend the Carol Service as I've got a conference call at work which won't finish until 7 but if I was personally I wouldn't wear an orange hat to the Carol Service. Wouldn't seem appropriate somehow, although I'm struggling to rationalise that tbh.

I'm not wearing orange to this.

Will be good though. I'm not for or against religion (I'm not mature enough to make a decision as to whether I need religion in my life), all I know is that some of the bass parts on these carols are fantastic. Not that you can see any of STFC actually knowing the parts of the carols.

Its quite straightforward....you claim to vacillate over your position, as a simple seeker of the truth.

However you get  answers to all your questions from the Fans Consortium side, refuse to seek similar answers from the Board side, and take little note of any that are offered using previous statements from the Newbury placemen, as available sources of data.

So although you claim to still be sitting on the fence in the interests of objectivity, your posts always carry a pro Board anti Consortium bias, which is why I view them with suspicion..  Only my opinion mind, I speak for no party line.

Sorry Reg you lost me on the "using previous statements from the Newbury placemen" comment .... but as I have already said before .... what is the point of asking questions of the board on here?  They never contribute ... so other means have to be used to try to get answers from them..... they may or may not answer me ... but if I don't get answers to questions then I am left to my own conclusions.  Reasonable?

surely not receiving any responses to your questions to the club yet the fans' consortium being entirely forward and open speaks volumes?

i believe paul davis et al have responded to all of your concerns yet your scepticism remains.

sonic my main scepticism that remains is with regard to the current impasse.  I do not see how this approach is supposed to suddenly make SSW decide that he wants to engage in dialogue with these clearly "friendly" people, who have no time for those who (for whatever reason that is certainly not clear to me) he chooses to trust and believe in.

I really want ANY sound investment in the club .... I do not see how this current approach will work ..... it needs a large amount of humble pie to be consumed by the Consortium/Trust and swallowing of pride .. in the perhaps vain hope that progress can be made.  The greater prize for all is worth that much surely?

What, exactly, has the Trust done to make apologies neccessary?

Whether you are, or not, you sound like an apologist for the current regime, despite the fact that they have clearly told half truths, cannot agree between themselves what line to take (One minute they want Bill Powers money, the next they don't; one minute the CVA is up to date, the next minute it's not; one minute they are so skint they have to sack Linda, the next they're recruiting directors/advisors left right and centre; one minute they would jump at the chance to sell the club, the next minute they don't want to sell, etc, etc, etc.

The current board, whether they have done nothing else wrong, has acted in a totally unproffessional manner and it is no surprise that a lot of supporters have lost all faith in them.

Title: Carol service - Monday 18th December
Post by: sonic youth on Monday, December 18, 2006, 22:04:41
the impasse has been caused by the board's denial of receiving a 'proper' approach, which simply isn't true. it's nothing to do with who the consortium are refusing to negotiate with, the foundations of which are based on sound legal advice.

if you've been told by lawyers not to negotiate with a man who has no legal position at the club and is currently under investigation by the DTI, you're hardly going to ignore that.

anyway, SSW's the majority shareholder and that is who the consortium will need to negotiate with.

Ok fine ... you clearly have your stance ... but to me .. if I want something badly enough then I would rather grovel to get it than to see it all slip away ...... what does it matter who originally said what to who, or who cast the first stone?  To make progress will take agreement and negotiation ... so bite the bullet and persevere ... who cares if it takes 50 knock-backs and many closed doors? ... if it is truly worth it then try, try and just keep on trying .... but hopefully without the "blame" culture prevailing .. then surely the chances of success would be higher?

Put your cards on the table, get on your knees and grovel - the board are just going to demand stupid money for what is essentially a worthless business without redevelopment. The redevelopment plans from the club have been laughable; the trust's redevelopment plans have been praised by local councillors - who gets the final say?

I understand that the consortium have made an excellent offer to SSW which has been refuted. If they were so willing to sell, why not now?

What have Newbury got to hide?

The negotation and agreement will come once the Consortium manage to get the right people to sit down with them, I believe these people have so far declined the opportunity. How do they negotiate when they can't even talk to them?

As for the blame culture, that exists for perfectly good reasons. It doesn't take an expert to work that out.

Frankly I'm pretty astounded at your continual defence of the board, you're as clued up as anyone on here and moreso than you're 'average' fan.

You have every right to your opinion and position regarding the current consortium bid.  I don’t feel however that simply provoking hostile responses by refusing to answer legitimate questions is either helpful to the debate or frankly showing you to be anything other than provocative and subjective.

I and my Trust colleagues have attempted to answer your questions honestly and openly (within the bounds of legality) and I (and I suggest others) would have far more respect for your strongly held opinions if you applied the same level of scrutiny and concern to the position held by the Board.

Are you really suggesting that we should agree to anything the Board or its plethora of advisors and hangers on suggest?  Do you think that we have not made numerous attempts to engage in dialogue and despite personal phone calls and offers of personal meetings directly to SSW we have been rebuffed?

Perhaps you could ask the same question we are struggling to comprehend; why after so many statements offering the club to any group with the relevant financial backing are they now stating that the club is not for sale?  The questions we want answered have been well documented on this forum and elsewhere and to date we have no answers.

Perhaps in the light of your self evident dogged and determined approach you could assist in seeking some of those answers?

Incidently Mr H, I hear (BBC RS) the club are to receive a written offer today repeating the verbal offer made to SSW. So we'll see if they give it the due consideration it deserves.

No, but you go much further than that, don't you? At least in one direction. Hijacking a thread about a carol service to demand that the consortium pay obeisance and show all cards before negotiations properly begin (like any sensible business would?) ... helpful?

Despite the fact that this was obviously a light hearted comment re wearing orange at the carol service, by your response it seems to me that you are the one that is seeking to be divisive.

I have followed your posts on different forums and despite the fact that I consider some of your posts vaild I too have noticed that you appear to be on a mission to ignore the answers you are given by the Trust while persisting in asking one sided questions.

Could you therefore tell me what questions you have asked of the board and Diamandis and what the answers were. Did you ask these questions in person or by email, letter or phone? Have you met with anyone from the Trust or Consortium?

If you are not purely out to attack everything that is said and done by the Trust perhaps this should be better reflected in your posts.

Yeah, I was there. Stames, Pook, Leader of Supporters Club and youth manager did readings. Shakes, Royce, Brown, Wells, Nicho, Mackey and a few others were there. Was good. Didn't see too many people I recognised. They said Sandy Gray has had an accident (dunno if this has been covered elsewhere) so Ady Williams couldn't be there as he was in hospital with her. And Luggy was spending time with his family.
