Title: Sports Personality Of The Year Post by: SwindonTartanArmy on Monday, December 11, 2006, 13:20:52 More importantly why was Zara Phillips sports personality of the year? Proof that the general public know nothing!

Proof that the general public know nothing! Only the 3rd World and European Champion in the history of her sport, a week after her best friend was killed in horsey action. Its a classic mix. Why's everyone so anti-Zara winning this? Compare some of the others: Button - 1 win in 107 races or something Tweddle - World Champ on bars (one off win) Clarke - 3 good games of golf in a weekend in an unsuccessful season (sympathy vote for the wife dying) Calzageeeee - Deserves to be in the top 3 - should've won maybe Monty - a few good games of cricket - nothing special really - future winner Murray - one of only two people to beat Federer, 1 tournament win - no greatness but a good year Cooke - World Champion, but in a neglected sport and never gonna win, but she deserves it. Taylor - Darts won't win it either. His "World" championships lose face a bit, as they aren't open. Doesn't he only play those people contracted to Sky, not Barneveld, Fordham etc.... Hatton - Calzageeee deserves it more, so Hatton's always 2nd to him. I've seen him in Premier League anyway.Title: Sports Personality Of The Year Post by: Northern Red on Monday, December 11, 2006, 13:35:50 Anyway looking at that list I'd have:
1st - Zara "Amazing" Phillips 2nd - Joe Calzageeee 3rd - Nicola Cooke 4th - Tweddle 5th - Hatton 6th - Murray 7th - Taylor 8th - Clarke 9th - Monty 10th - Button Title: Sports Personality Of The Year Post by: Northern Red on Monday, December 11, 2006, 13:37:57 Quote from: "STFC Village" Quote from: "Northern Red" Taylor - Darts won't win it either. It's like the World Series Baseball - no one else would win but the Yanks - but only if anyone can enter can you be Champion of the World. On the next level: Zara was also a World Champ - Clarke had a fairly average season Title: Sports Personality Of The Year Post by: magicroundabout on Monday, December 11, 2006, 13:45:11 i agree on the sympathy vote.
but like you say looking through the list there is no one else there who deserved to win it Title: Sports Personality Of The Year Post by: SwindonTartanArmy on Monday, December 11, 2006, 14:23:23 Calzaghe... 9 years as world champion?
Murray... fair enough hasnt done a huge amount, but he is still ranked higher in the world than Federer was at the same age. the other... hmmm cant even see why most of them were even nominated! :-))( Oh and dont even get me started on the fact that they are calling darts a sport! Title: Sports Personality Of The Year Post by: fatbury on Monday, December 11, 2006, 14:25:53 cos Theo is ace .. end of!
