Title: Microsoft Outlook help?
Post by: Bushey Boy on Sunday, December 10, 2006, 19:46:43
Laptop crashed earlier, when I rebooted and tried to open my email or type one it came up with:

Out of memory or system resources.  Close some programmes and try again.

I dont have anything else open.  Before this message an earlier one was Microsoft Word is not on your system.  It blooming is and it works.

Any ideas?

He should try to open other programs ...If the problem will be the same , he should use antivirus and antyspyware...
If it doesn't help , he should check what processes are on during starting windows
If it doesn't help , format is the best idea...

Ash, try searching for a file called OUTCMD.DAT. It's most likely corrupted, just delete it, reboot and then launch Outlook. When Outlook can't find OUTCMD.DAT it'll just create another one.

From the Start Menu, click search. Set the option to 'All files and folders' then type OUTCMD.DAT.

It may take a while, then just click on anything it brings up and delete it.

Try turning on your hidden files. From any folder go to Tools > Folder Options > click the View tab then part way down click 'Show hidden files and folders'. Then search again.

It could be one of these issues:

1) You're low on virtual memory. You can change this in windows it's simple enough to do

OR

2) There's a corrupt email on the server which is causing the problem.

OR

3) Somehow Outlook has become corrupted.

SOLUTIONS:

1) Right click on 'my computer' and select 'properties'. Click on the 'advanced' tab and then 'performance'. Go to the 'advanced' tab in the new menu that pops up. Make sure the 'system managed' option is checked.

This also brings up another issue - you may not have enough space on your hard drive. How much space is on there?

2) Can you open the email in a browser to check? If so do that and see if there is an email in there that could be causing the problem. If so delete it.

3) To do a system restore go to the start menu and select 'all programs'. Then after that go to 'accessories' then 'system tools' and click on 'system restore'. On the menu that pops up select 'restore computer to earlier time' then click next. Click on one of the bold dates before the problem started to happen, then follow the menu through to the end. You will not lose any files that have been created/changed since that restore date.

No luck si pi, it couldnt do a system restore.  Would it be useful to go and get an up to date norton anti virus? computer shop said they cant do anything for 8 days!

Title: Microsoft Outlook help?
Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, December 11, 2006, 10:37:31
8 days? I wouldn't fucking bother with them. They'll probably charge you 2 days labour.

If your norton isn't up to date you could try avg anti-virus, it's free.

Just out of interest does the error have an error number (error#000076868 for example)?
