here's a thought. could monky do a job on the right wing?

I recall being told he had two good feet and the Grimsby (?) goal was on his right which was a great hit.  He just got injured at the wrong time, I think he looks a decent player.

Monky played right wing for Rotherham IIRC. He drifts in from the left too much anway, would probably do a job on the right.

He is there to get his fitness up isn't he?  As Sturrock wouldn't have seen much of him before he went oop narth.

I think Zaaboub's a better bet on the left but anybody, anybody but Ricky

Brown is crap and Sturrock has to get rid of him. Monky has to come back he is doing well up in Monkey land. i dont rate Brown at all. if Monky comes back then we have Zaboob and Monky for the left side

rich is spot on, we should get shot of brown not monky.

zaaboub on the left with monky on the right would work, as others have said he cuts inside often so would probably score a fair few goals as well. i believe he's reasonably two-footed too.

Monkey has the interesting record that he's appeared in 10 league games for us, none of which resulted in defeat.

I think Luggy said Monky was being loaned out to get fit - makes you wonder why he can't do it at Swindon - are we too high profile?  Zaboooob looked sharp against Morecambe when he came on and got loads of mentions against Mansfield on the radio.  I can't put Weston in the same bracket as Shakes and Brown who I think are taking the piss.  If he had a better midfield around him, he would be a useful player IMO. Roberts is a real frustration - 6 goals in 5 games -  against Hereford he looked a league above everyone on the pitch but disappears from games which is something we can't afford - has he still got problems to sort out?

I've been wondering that as well...........

or hes got a few goals, thinks he's gods gift and doesnt have to bother anymore....

DV85 - I know you get to loads more games than me, but do you reckon Roberts doesn't give a toss at times ( I read your player ratings v Mansfield).  I can live with the thought that players aren't at their best because they have got pissed or been on the nose candy but to think they don't care about the team, their own status in the game or the fans would be a real kick in the balls

Surely the former would indicate the latter?

I cant stay whether or not he cares, but last night he was terrible. Didnt challenge in the air, no urgency to close down the defenders or the goal keeper. Didnt make much movement for the ball. If a pass didnt go directly to his feet he would shrug his shoulders and look at the passer of the ball as if to say 'what a shit pass, I shouldnt have to move!' He didnt drop deep to get the ball. He didnt even work the channels like he usually does.

Having seemingly come back from injury and then played every minute of every game since...plus this one being only 3 days after the last game it could well be down to fitness, but he was very lethargic last night and when he was subbed the away end probably produced its biggest cheer of the night.



There is a huge difference between not playing well and not trying.

Thanks for that DV85 - thank god I'm not Luggy who has to sort it out b4 we get stuck into Walsall.  Slightly depressing if he's giving other team members the bad eye if he doesn't get the ball exactly where he wants it.  Thats a real plus for the opposition and suggests he thinks he the star of the show.  That said our passing can be crap - always knee height, bouncing in front of players rather than to feet and very rarely into space for players to run onto.  Something Monky is quite good at ( to get back on thread!)

Thing is, even when he did get it into his feet he started twisting and turning and ended up loosing the ball. Pulling the same facial expression and then let their defender take the ball forward, with little or no attempt to win it back.

Worst thing was, Shakes, Zaaboub and Jutkiewicz all put in quality crosses (yes, I said Shakes!) and Roberts didnt even attack them. Once bounced about 5 yards from goal, there defender had enough time to take a touch and hack it clear. Defenders shouldnt have time to take a touch in the 6 yard box....

I guess that's the difference between a player earning 100K a week and League 2 - making the twists and turns count, being in the right place when the crosses come in and having the fierce desire to succeed regardless of anything else

I naively used to think, or rather assume, that players would be going out there with as much passion and motivation as we had in the stands - but after watching that Big Ron debacle on Sky and seeing the misfits in the changng room and their attitudes I can see now that some players actually don't give a toss sometimes. Does my head in.

Roberts....just can't make my mind up. He's one that needs to be wanted, and because he's not Sturrock's type of player, he's not going to get that.

Exactly, you've got to remember that it's their job after all and not everybody loves their job. Some people only stick at a crap job for the good money. I'm not saying they get paid fantastically well, but I'd much rather play football for £1k a week than sit in an office for the same.
