i had a small outburst at work, listening to it on the radio, i was begging for my phone not to ring whilst listening, it does, the minute i ainswer it i hear No 61, at this point i am trying to concentrate on the draw and what the person on the phone was saying, i didn't hear crystal palace get drawn before swindon, and i heared bristol shitty after so i lept up in joy thinking me had drawn shitty at home, only to be told by bennett that i was a dumb polish boy and that we had palace away, i was pissed off.

We've won our last 3 games at Selhurst vs. Palace. Granted 1999 (x2) and 1996.

Palace get around 17,000-20,000. (4,000 vs. Notts County in the League Cup)

Don Rogers will be happy.

couldn't be happier, my old boss (who's palace) text me last night saying about how he hopes we play each other next round, i agree. palace are shit and taylor has got them playing wimbledon style football.

atleast we know something about the team we're playing, instead of tamworth or someone crap like that!

Looks like best route is Swindon > Paddington > Victoria > Selhurst

Departs Swindon 8.10 arrives 11:10. FGW website shows buses from Swindon to Reading that weekend.

It's one of the worst.

Not a side we can be confident of beating, probably go out.

Not a big side that will generate a large crowd, so not much money in it.

Bit of a pisser to be honest.

I'll still go though!!

Middling draw.....as pointed out earlier, there are more shit draws than good in the third round.....you don't want anyone in your own league....best avoid the non league, and there are plenty of norvern no marks in L1 and CCC.....

Palace are not exactly wonderful, its relatively near and they get decent crowds.

agreed. for me the highlight of the draw was the tune at the end by camera obscura (which someone on here got me into quite recently).

still, it's better than a kick up the arse i guess.

The Palace game seems a long way away though

Mansfield Town, Walsall, Bristol Rovers, Macclesfield Town, Wycombe Wanderers, Notts County & Franchise all to come.

This tie also means our League game at Peterborough United becomes a tricky night game.

Its a fair point....think its time to stop thinking about matches and get back onto the subject of Board ousting....

I don't really believe in looking at fixtures ahead, as I'm not convinced it neccessarily means a great deal, but a cursory glance at the forthcoming games in my local on Friday got me thinking that December into Jan looks tough and it gets a bit easier after that.  Which of course is bollocks because it  doesn't always work that way.

Typical wishy washy neither one thing nor the other type draw for STFC. F****** Palace away. Rubbish.

Palace at home would have been ok but away is complete crap and bollocks.

We've played them so many times in recent years that there's not even any novelty value.

Oh well, I won't be complaining if we sneak a 1-0 win in the last minute.

Not the best, but at least its quite local.  The alst thing you want is a championship team, no galmour, and a pretty tough task to get anything out of the game,  even worse is it's a ground I've been to before, TBH would've preferred to visit a new gorund, but hey ho, that's the 'magic' of the cup. :?

Was a bit disappointed with the draw when we first came out the hat..

But on reflection I think it could've been so much worse..

We've been starved of any decent away games in recent years, even Palace away seems quite attractive these days, I think we'll take 2,500 down there.

Plus it's 20 minutes from my front door..

Title: swindon v crystal palace away
Post by: Barry Scott on Monday, December 4, 2006, 17:21:33
I'm pleased with the draw. I've done my positive twisting of reality and it now seems good. My reasoning is this.

Any teams below us will play out of their skins and we will be complacent. No proof required. Glad we didn't get one of them.

Weak Prem teams, whether they are complacent or play reserves, still would be a significant hurdle for us. This would neither inspire us as fans, nor inspire the players.

Teams in the same league and league 1 will just be cunt.

Championship teams are good because they will be complacent yet, hopefully, not have the skills to kill us or out play us at every turn. The players within our team would be up for it and coupled with a loud away following and a quiet home following, victory is a definate posibility.

I feel we have one of the more playable teams in the Championship and i think we can beat them and get ourselves into the forth round.

Title: swindon v crystal palace away
Post by: reeves4england on Monday, December 4, 2006, 17:26:52
I agree with Barry Scott to some extent.

On a good day, we could go there, outsing them, they could have a bad game and we could nick a win or get a replay at least. They are 16th which shows they are nothing special in the Championship, and having watched Clinton Morrison's lame excuse for a performance in the pre-season game there is definitely some hope!

If I can get the day off work I might well go. Driving to Reading sounds like a good plan!

The biggest nightmare which has put me off going is getting there. Having been unable to get there with the SAS i was forced to look at train travel, that means a coach to Reading, train to Victoria, the tube to Paddington and then a train from Paddington to Selhurst Station. Then actually fining the ground :disapprove:  So all in all really couldn't find the effort to do it. Would have loved to have gone, but over three hours of travelling and 6 journeys to get there alone, it was all a tad too much! Its's only to London for pete's sake! Sorry to moan on me first post.    Come on you reds and get in the 4th Round at home!

we'll play in last seasons white away kit

they should produce a white kit for this match only and not release any replicas for public sale. They could then sale the players worn shirts on qxl/ebay - nice little money making excerise for the club

There are some trains that go direct to paddington. I can't be fucked now though.

The thing is, i've heard so many people say they are gutted they can't go because they can't get onto the buses. When i asked about the SAS they sais due to a lack of intrest ...... I mean i had 8 people who were going to come with me to the palace game, but they wanted to go on the coach. Shame we're going to miss it! However sad little me will be sat next to th radio soapy tit wank!

For me the trains that are between bristol and pad are diverted at bath onto the berks and hants line (until reading) this adds about 35 mins to my journey. I am not sure what the service is like between Swindon and Pad?

I don't see there being a huge demand for it to be honest, but a nice idea all the same

You may be right, other clubs have done it and they have sold well.

I would like to completely disassociate this individual from L&P immediately.

If he brings it then he will be wearing it.

Have fun those of you who are going.

I changed my mind and fancied it this morning but had already got a tee time at North Wilts so I shall be golfing.

Can't you do that on Sundays, Sam? You'll be missed tomorrow.

I have shedloads of DIY lined up for me when I wake up on Sunday morning  :(
