Title: Loan players in?
Post by: sonic youth on Tuesday, November 21, 2006, 13:54:44
"The deadline for loans comes around this Thursday at 12pm and I am hoping to bring one, two or possibly even three players in before then."

from sturrock's update.

i'd guess we're looking at a central midfielder, right winger and a striker.

it'd also indicate that sturrock jr isn't one of the players if it's a loan deal...

Maybe

Jutskiewicz  (as one for the future)
Ifil                 (doing well this season)
Jack Smith    (Consistent performer)
Evo           ?????

I was thinking Peacock may of attracted some interest as people know that Sturrock released him before so they were testing the waters to see if he would consider letting him go.  Also Ifil and Weston are probably the 2 could most likely see clubs being interested in.

Rubbish.
Ifil has been at Swindon 3 seasons (I Think)
Wise was there for 15 games. Would Ifil jump ship to join him? and with us possibly being in the same league I cant see it happening.
If you said someone like Weston it would be mpre believeable.

£10,000.99

To be fair Ifil has improved a lot, but talk of a 6 figure fee is a as fanciful as him being ready for Championship football.

Maybe Sturrock will get Flitcroft in on loan from Bury as short-term cover for Evans.

Let's think: the following replies will be -

No thanks
He's too fucking old
He's crap
He's too old
He's slow
If Bury don't want him, why would we?

Maybe he is all of those things. I don't have first hand knowledge of every frigging player in the league like some people seem to think they have. I just thought I would throw his name in there.

was listening to the post match interview with Paul Sturrock on BBC Swindon and when Roberts was mentioned Sturrock described him as "a bit lazy in the first half but scored 2 good goals."

It's good to know the new manager has figured him out early. Sturrock is definitely the right man to get us promoted. :old:

Title: Loan players in?

Gary Lineker hardly worked his socks off for the teams he played for.  if Roberts continues his scoring ratio, and has those moments of inspiration in a game, then a team will carry that sort of player because goals win games.

Title: Loan players in?
Post by: mattboyslim on Wednesday, November 22, 2006, 10:38:55
Spot on Rob, Robbo is only a liability when he's not scoring. At this level providing his heads right he's a good player, more than capable of performing at this level IMHO.  If he's not prolific, which I don't necessarily think he needs to be, he has to work hard, but at the moment he's scoring, he's swaggering and that enough to let him off being lazy for me.  A fit Christian Roberts who worked hard and scored goals frequently would be frankly too good for us.

The other advantage of that is, like the Carlisle game, he was shit for a lot of it and very lazy. The defense also got lazy as a result, meaning when he did burst into action he was ace.

If Paul Sturrock wants any recommendations on players, he knows my number.

Theres a unnamed striker playing for a struggling league 1 club in london I rate in the £500k bracket. In fact I'd say he was better than Bobby Zamora.

he won't be back, Sturrock doesn't rate him (as good as said so in the adver a couple of weeks ago), hence the loan to Brentford

The transfer window is now closed for permanent signings, and will reopen on 1 January 2007.
In the Football League, loan deals are permitted between Friday, 8 September and Thursday, 23 November at 1700 GMT.

However, in exceptional circumstances, clubs can apply for special dispensation to the Premier League or Football League outside these times - for instance, if they had no goalkeepers available.

The transfer window does not apply to clubs below Conference National level.

Feel sorry for Monky, how he warrant a loan out ahead of Brown really surpirses me.  Hopefully CCP will get some fitness as he's a good prospect IMO, and at centreback we are not overly blessed with cover, especially given Ifil's profensity to get sent off.

"Andy Monkhouse has gone to Hartlepool United and Charlie Comyn-Platt has gone to Grays Athletic for a month's loan each. Looking at the reserve team fixtures we don't have a lot of regular fixtures and both players could benefit from playing regular, competitive games in my opinion. Andy has been out for four weeks with his hamstring injury and looked as though he had been out. Sofiene Zaaboub and Aaron Brown have done ok on the left hand side and David Stroud and Andy Caton also offer cover in that area.

We are very hopeful of adding to the squad. There is one player in the pipeline and I will be making more calls before the 5pm deadline to see if we can add to the squad, because I would like to bring one more in aside from a midfielder.

Paul Evans has had a scan and we now await the results but we have welcomed Aaron Brown and Jamie Vincent into training this week.

The Under 18's appointment is now close and we are now finalizing things before we are in the position to announce it. Once we have the new Under 18's manager in place we will be able to do a lot more work with the younger players. It will take time but hopefully we will be seeing more kids coming through to the first team. The performance against Swansea City was very encouraging and there are some good young players coming through now."

This speculation is certainly more interesting than work.  With 2 out are we expecting 2 in? A centre mid + right mid.  Plus Sturrock jr. as well maybe on a short term contract?

Steve Adams is a good shout if he isn't in Brian Law's plans.

Still no club text - I'm going for Jaques Songo'o of Pompey (purely based on the fact he's a right winger and just finished up at Bournemouth - no source whatsoever) and Steve Adams

Where's Petr Mikolanda when you need him eh.

I am beginning to think that this one midfielder is all we are going to get with maybe his son helping out up front if he gets fit and he has been trying to tie up a winger this afternoon but appears to have failed thus far

Thats my guess anyway but I have faith that even if we got no-one in, Mr Sturrock knows what he is doing and wouldnt reside to getting deadwood in for the sake of numbers when we have youth that could do the same without wasting loans!

Who's Michael Timlin?

Gifted central midfielder whose progress has been hampered by injury. In 2003/2004 a broken metatarsal and a back condition held him back, but he has shown in the Academy and in the reserves that he has the ability to play in the Barclays Premiership.

no, I dont think he could.

He has a decent cross on him, no question about it. He is also quite tidy on the ball and he looks a decent player dont get me wrong.

I just dont think he has the pace and skill to beat a full back and whip it in....

Shakes at least has the pace to get past a full back...

Shakes only plays week in week out because he is the only 'right winger' we have.

Wells is a central midfielder, who has been pushed wide right because there is no one else.

Niether does Beckham.....
Obviously i'm not comparing Ben Wells to Beckham, like for like, but Beckham rarely beats a full back, yet can cross well and many of his crosses have resulted in scoring oppotunities.

But then again, i don't like Ben Wells at all, so i hope he doesnt play  8)

was a bit of devils advocate in there for me....Ben Wells does look to have the physical presence of a small girl, but the least you want is for the kids to get a chance before they begin learning how to lay bricks, mix cement and find their way to Supermarine.

Sturrock isnt one for playing people out of position. Unless he really has to
