Well...it's a couple of days after last game....It's time to think about Bury .

Last game at home with them : 29.12.2001 Swindon won 3:1 .
I think everybody would like to repeat it....

Ineresting and 'dangerous' player in Bury squad : Glynn Hurst - he is from loan from Shrewsbury . He scored 5 goals in 8 games.....Fortunately the last one a month ago  :wink: . I hope he won't 'be born again' in the game against Swindno FC.

interesting game as my cuddly polar bear whom my screen name is named after is a Bury fan and he even wears a Bury shirt ..

Christian Roberts has scored 4 in 3, he's the on-form striker in the league  :mrgreen:

Another news about Bury team....I don't know if I understood well...but BBC Sport says that C.Schmeichel denied to play in today match versus Weymouth....If so , it would mean that somewhere in Bury is a conflict what is VERY GOOD NEWS for us....

Bartek, i'm afraid it means the club who owns him, Man City, won't let him play, It's the FA cup vs Weymouth and if he plays for Bury he won't be able to play for another team in the cup this season.  No real arguments I suspect just standard procedure when loaning players to other clubs.  His loan finishes after saturday's game and he'll return to Man City.

Swindon Town midfielder Michael Pook will miss Saturday's game with Bury after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.

Pook is now just one game away from his 50th league appearance in a Town shirt but will have to wait after picking up his fifth caution of the season at Plainmoor.

A product of the Swindon Town Centre of Excellence, Pook has come up through the ranks from youth team captain - where he featured as a striker - before settling into his central midfield role.

Pook came on as a 19th minute substitute for Paul Evans who picked up a knee injury - but unfortunately it looks as though both will miss out this weekend against The Shakers.

Can't help but think back to the game in 79 when we caned Bury 8-0 at the CG,  we'd drawn 1-1 at Highbury on the Tuesday in the LC.  Then beat Arsenal 4-3 on the Tuesday after the Bury game. Heady days.

 Billy Tucker scored at Highbury and  v Bury......think his team was in the quiz I did at the CG last Thursday.

  Think we were 4-0 at half time,  on the rare occasions that sort of thing happens, the players normally take the foot off the pedal second half, especially with a big game coming in mid week.  There was still a good 10 mins left when number 8 went in and Bury resorted to time wasting tactics, for the rest of the game, passing back to goalkeeper rolling it out passing back again etc.   This tactic was eventually why backpass rule came in.

We need a good performance today. Playing like we did against Torquay is alright when you're away, we won and got the 3 points, but if we want attendances to stay at the level they've been so far this season we need to get back to playing like we did against Carlisle.
 Hope Roberts is up for it today...............

Hello Coxy, good to see a ray of light after the crap handed out to us yesterday. Should have gone today, but i was violently ill overnight. Had the Ricky Shakes when i woke up :(

I was going to ask why you were quietly lurking around here...a little too much info though.

To sum up....good win, average peformance.
Some good spells, the equaliser was a great strike as a result of a good passing move.
Bury only threatened from corners, but to be honest they could have a couple of goals from corners.
The new guy Timlin looked OK, quietly went about his business and his confidence grew as the game went on. He is a good passer and played some nice football at times, so could be a good signing.
Ifil shouldn't be allowed to pass the ball and Phil Smith was like a waxwork in goal, he never came for anything.

I was quite bored for 80min, last 10 min was the most entertaining,

P Smith was average, made one decisive save, didnt really have much eles to do,

J Smith had a bit of a shocker at times but again played some good football

New guy Timlin, made some good passes, looked confident on the ball when under pressure

Roberts was utter cack, but how can one complain if he socres goals,

Shakes had a good game, played good football down wing, did his job.

All in all it was a win which we deserved, own goal or not, bury were shit.

They also had a 12th man, i.e the ref, who was giving them every desision, one of their guys should have been sent off for  kicking the ball away and pushing adie,but only got a yellow.

Oh well 2nd in league, cant comlpain.

Just got back from the game. Was not the best of games, but i will take the 3 points. Was Impressed with Weston and Timlin. Froze my ass off in the 2nd half. I also met Red Macca at half time. Nice Bloke.

Me and my Dad met Paul Davis aswell. Also a nice bloke.

Agree with Ultra, impressed with Weston/Timlin, however I did not meet Red Macca so cannot comment.

Oh and whoever glued Smith to the goal line needs a kicking.  Come off your line man, for the love of Jesus' dad!!!

Fair play to Roberts battled all match, I fear for Peacock's future though he seems to be losing his effectiveness.

Were there any Bury fans at the game today I was in the arkells and could barely here their cheers above the groans from the Town fans when they scored.First 35 mins was like a morgue in the ground today.

 Think the Boardroom problems have finally sucked the life out of so many fans.....I'd say it was more like Death Row rather than a morgue.

Wasn't the best of matches and a few of the players could have put a lot more effort in, than they did.
Roberts played very well as did Weston.
Although he's my favorite player, i thought Peacock was poor today.....He's usually the hardest working player on the pitch, but today he did nothing. I was glad to see him come off, as i was Brown, who was also poor.
Back four looked tight enough, which was good.

i thought smith was being blocked by their striker for the goal, as he was for most bury set pieces.

Timlin played well, and dare i say it, so did shakes :shock:  rodney played well charging down the left aswell

No matter how badly we he played today or in recent games, the table does not lie. If we are crap I dread to think of words to describe the 22 teams below us! If we stay there it will do nicely for me but I think catching up Walsall is the kind of target Sturrock should be setting.

Haven't seen the Town End that dead in a while, it was depressing. Why aren't we singing Luggy's red'n'white army?

Think you answered your own question! The team have to lift the fans on a cold, miserable day like today and by the sounds of it they weren't all that inspiring!

Somewhat fortuitously, due to the flooding and subsequent train delays, I missed the first 25 minutes. All got a bit better when I got there. Was shocked by the morgue like quality of the ground today though.

pretty much sums it up for me. a thoroughly unentertaining game but i've come to expect little else this season.

my only disagreement is that i thought bury were alright, not the worst i've seen this year.

We weren't at our best, but we were better than Bury. I thought Timlin (Bearing in mind he's only been here for two days) showed a lot of promise.

bollocks, we were awful - especially in comparison to the last game i saw which was roberts carlyle at home.

i'm not being negative whatsoever, i'm just not pulling any punches in my assesment of the game.

we deserved to win, no doubt about that, but we went about it with little style or panache.

The Argyle and Wednesday fans I've spoke to have said this is how Sturrock operates - if it means promotion then so be it.

Playing mediocre football and winning is a good sign for promotion if you ask me  :)

I'd also argue against calling Roberts lazy.  Thought he did alright.

No roberts was being lazy, 9 out of 10 times if the ball wasnt played directly to his feet or he knew in his head theres a chance he's not going to get the ball, he did not challenge for it, if he got tackled he would not attempt to get it back.

On the odd occasion he did well, and scored a good goal, which as soon as he shot i saw it going over the fucking ground (thats what would have happened if it was FM07 anyway)

sorry mate that is bollocks,he was the only striker yesterday who was closing down and running down the channels,he robbed the left back after closing him down .that was one of his best performances for me this season and everytime he got the ball he looked like he wanted to do something

I agree Macca, it seems the in thing to call Robbo lazy at the moment.  He was the only attacking player who looked capable of getting us the 3 points yesterday (which he did).

funny how he always seems to divide the fans opinion on him though, did it at city doing it here.  Half the fans appreciate his efforts the only half think he's just lazy.

Quite right. Opposing strikers seem to do no more running about than him, but concentrate on scoring with intense penetrative bursts, which Roberts is excellent at when his head is right, as yesterday.
There were signs of good football I thought, and we had some bad luck with good through balls which were cut out. I thought it was a good game to watch, except for a spell when we were panicking and hoofing anywhere and it felt like last season again in my view. We got a grip though and finished the game strongly.

It's a shame that was our 5th home match in 6 weeks or so, affected the attendance somewhat.  Obviously people are struggling with paying for all these home games, to be fair I may sacrifice next weeks game so I can go to Walsall instead.

Atomosphere less edgy match against the non leaguers or an away day out to a top of the table clash - no brainer really.

Can someone who was in the North Stand near the away supporters please tell me if the Bury fan with the rattle had a flat cap on? 8)
