Have you been told your xmas hours yet?

This morning a LAN came through which our manager read out.

Due to an expected 9% drop in traffic this xmas, delivery staff will not be getting the usual 14 hours scheduled attendance spread over the 2 week xmas pressure period.

Instead, we are offering 6 hours over the 2 weeks.  :x

6 hours overtime for the 2 weeks !!!!!

It works out about 20-30 mins a fucking day!

During xmas pressure i regularly go 2-3 hours over my time!

Are we expected to work for nothing?!

slowly going downhill isnt it ..my mum worked at Royal Mail for 27 years but took early retirement package .. she was in accounts management somewhere .. said she was glad to get out

It's a competive market place but we're being worked to the bone.

We've been told next year we need to make a 10% saving. Thats roughly 200 hours a week (5 rounds) !

The rounds are pushed to the limit already, we're just not gonna cope soon.

Our office haven't striked for 15 years now.

Oxford mail centre and the surrouding delivery offices are always out. At Chipping Norton we've always kept ourselves to ourselves, we do need to stand up to them.

I only do 40 hours a week so it wouldnt bother me if they fucked about with our schedules etc.

Have you pointed out that 9% drop of 14 hours is not 6 hours (it should drop to 12 3/4 hours after the 9% is taken off).

Wouldn't do much good Simon, they never listen.

The drop in traffic is bullshit anyway. They constantly say traffic is down when infact it's up.

And how would you know what hours i work?

My round itself takes 4 to 4 and a half hours and thats after i've sorted and prepped it.

I start at 5am and never finish till 1 at least.

Fucking hell there must be 2 of you doing the whole area if it takes you 4.5 hours, or are you telling porkies?

i'd fucking love to work until 1pm everyday.

ok getting up early is shit but tbh i could start work at 12pm and i'd still find it hard to get to work on time

i was gonna leave, but my new job is far, far better (i.e i do less work, and most of it is driving around)  so i'm quite content to stay. oh, and i'm still getting paid night rate :D

god bless mahooosive accidents that they have to shut the motorway for! but you gotta admit, you do less work than me! so dont complain :P

8 hours is a standard working day in this country.

And back to my original point, i wasn't moaning about my hours, their great, i love them.

What i originaly said was, we're expected to work for nothing over xmas pressure period.

Spuddy, all our deliveries are 3 1/2 to 4 hours long.

Mine is a rural delivery with 450 delivery points.

No you're getting something. It is a cunt but that comes with the job and working for an organisation that is, let's be honest, going down the pan a bit.

At the moment I'm working through my lunch hour unpaid to do my job. But that   comes with the job. I'm not happy about it but it's only for a few weeks. There are far more people in a worse off position.

My standard shift is 5am to 1pm.

During xmas pressure we will never finish our rounds by 1pm, it's normally 3pm.

To compensate this, in years gone by, we're given 2 hours overtime everyday for the xmas pressure fortnight. So thats 14 hours.

This year, we've been offered 6 hours!

So i'll be working for nothing alot.

You're getting 6 hours - that's something.

Not being funny but the minute i stop being paid by my company to do work i leave and go home.

if your half way through your round when your shift finishes then go back to the depo and get the fat cat bosses to do it.

if your not getting paid for it don't do it. simple.

is actually possible to do less than a postie, all they do is push letters through doors

theres all different sorts of posties tho. ralphy is the crapiest type, the ones who stick the shite through your letterbox and wake you up at 7:00 with a recorded delivery, then theres spuddy, the mail sorter type, then theres me and compo, in "distrobution", basically the lazy bastards who drive tha mail about, picking it up from businesses, post boxes or post offices and the like.

People really have no idea what our job involves!
