Title: Sturrocks next "victim"
Post by: Piemonte on Wednesday, November 15, 2006, 09:24:35
Step forward...... Mr Gareth Whalley!

He was utterly anonymous against non league opposition last night which for a bloke who has had the career he has had is unacceptable in my opinion.  He just strolls around doing fuck all and passing sideways. But that is just my opinion.

I dont think sturrock will like him either though, dosnt seem to fit the mould of central midfielder that sturrock likes (athletic box to box types who can pass and tackle) Weston, Evans & pook all fall under this catagory. Whalley dosnt. he'll be next - marketh my words :agree:

discuss

Didn't go last night, but agree that Whalley has got to go - been totally unimpressed with the bloke since he got here years ago.

Also, injury prone, or what?

I just listened to the phone-in from last week (Extremely interesting). Sturrock was saying he can judge a player on one game and would have a very good idea by next Wednesday (i.e. today) as to who was up to it and who was not.

On that basis I would not be surprised to see a couple more follow Fola out the door (that rhymes 8) ) in the near future. Whalley has to be favourite I would guess.

Lonergan will go 1st. Absolute clown last night.

I think Whalley will stay, allowed to run his contract out. Sturrock will have a bit more respect for the experienced pro.

Doubt Pook will be in the team much anymore.

But of the non loanees my bet is on Monkhouse. His control was awful last night.

I don't suppose Sturrock will kick Gurney out while he's injured. And in any case he may like him, he's a direct no-nonsense player. Maybe Sturrock will get the best out of him when he does come back.

I dont think Sturrock will think his best is good enough to be league 1 quality so I really think he will be shown the door, even before he's fully fit but perhaps he will wait to give him a chance?

gurney's an attacking full-back, the sort of player sturrock likes.

i agree that whalley is likely to be first out the door.

I think sturrock may like Gurney. As said above he is direct and no nonsense and is capable of putting a decent cross in. He should know who he is too after he played against plymouth in L1 (including being sent off at home park)

I'll never help but think we just havent got the best out of Whalley.

A Conference side will snap him up on loan, or even a side in this division.

Who's this new loan signing going to be then, striker or right winger? Awaiting the text...Lloyd Sam from Charlton?

Still reckon another striker will be on the way out to make room for one coming in, though maybe not until January.

Peacock - just don't know
Brownlie - PS seemed encouraged
Roberts - only one scoring right now, but not PS' type, if you know what I mean
Jutkiewicz - rates him
Caton - doesn't as a striker, maybe on the left

Rumbled, darn it.
uurrrhhhhh NO!
just dont think Gurney is as good as some make him out to be thats all.

I think this loan talk will be a striker, anyone have any inside info? Infact we all know that no one ever does, so anyone have any general guesses??

I cant believe people are slating Whalley, he looked a cut above the rest last season and would be awesome alongside Evans in the CM role.

People seem to forget Pook is only 20 and for his age is a very good player, i think if Sturrock doesnt want him (which no one but sturrock knows) then we should loan him to Forest Green to get some first team football and if he still doesnt rate him then get rid of him.

Andy Gurney would be great at this level as well. I dont rate Jack Smith at all think he is very slow and gets beat to easily, but thats my opinion.

I must have missed that.

You've totally invalidated that opinion though by claiming Jack Smith is crap as he has clearly been one of our better players this season.

This whole thread is nuts some other clown up there talking about Whalley & Gurney being great and Jack Smith being rubbish you guys are delerious Jack Smith has been one of our most improved players this year and actually has a big impact on the team now.

CCP could be another one. We've already got Williams, Ifil and Nicho as regular centre halfs with Leigh Henry a very promising youngster. Surely there's no room for CCP?

maybe under dennis wise, but Sturrock might not fancy Nicholas as a centre back and shift him out as a left back....meaning we've only really got two first team centre backs...meaing there it room for CCP...and Leigh "Thierry" Henry

Only missed the Accrington game.
Like i said its my opinion at the end of the day i just don't think people give Brown enough credit for what he does. Smith i feel is one of the slowest players at the club, but he is good defensively when in the right position. This may be because he has to do alot of work to cover the right flank
(no good right winger at the club - i would try Monkey out their personaly.) I rate Whalley, looks very good on the ball, has good distribution around the pitch, and would be very good in this league.

I think Lonergan will be sent back to preston, i think Sturrock will get rid of these players between now and the end of the season:- Shakes, Brownlie, Brown, Pook, Gurney and Whalley.

Personally i would keep Caton, Stroud, Wells, Comyn-Platt.

I think Sturrock will keep Roberts and Peacock and also he will bring in another striker and a right winger and maybe even a central midfielder.

Williams, Evans, Ifil, J.Smith and Weston are the best players at the club in my opinion, Sturrock should offer Weston a new contract asap before he goes to Leeds with the midget.

I could possibly see Marino Keith, Steve Adams, Romain Larrieu, Mickey Evans coming here.

Would love to see David Friio come out of retirement to play here, he is a very good player and scored loads at plymouth despite being a midfielder!!!!

everyone keeps saying shakes,he works hard does the simple things well and gets up and down BUT cannot cross for shit or shoot.however i think these things can be worked on and its worth trying to improve him.weston has to play in the centre for me so we dont really have anyone else who can go on the right anyway.Imo shakes is good enough for this league and we have managed to get into 4th with him,we would have been higher but the reason we are not is down to our strikers poor finishing not just shakes hence the reason i think we will get a new striker in before anything else

Would you really think Sturrock would try and make us a Plymouth mark 2? He's not stupid - if there's anything you can ascertain about the bloke in the short time he's been here, it is that. Out of the five names you mentioned, one is retired! On medical grounds as well, I believe. Not to mention the age of the players in question.

As swindon town dave said, why make so many changes? The squad we have now got us here, and with the addition of one or two new players it'd undoubtedly get us promoted. We don't need Plymouth to do it for us.

Well Mickey Evans is 33, Larrieu is 30, Marino Keith is 32, Steve Adams is 26.

Friio didn't retire on medical grounds, he only retired as he was sick of bench warming for nottingham forest!!

I just think Sturrock will maybe bring in 1 or 2 players that he has worked with before.

I can see him shipping out at least 3 or 4 players maybe more, he will get rid of some dead wood!!!

French midfielder Friio retires
Nottingham Forest midfielder David Friio is to retire from football.
The 33-year-old arrived at The City Ground from Plymouth Argyle in February 2005 for £100,000.

He will now return to his native France to set up his own football-related business after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Friio made more than 150 appearances for Plymouth, scoring 44 goals but following his arrival at Forest, made just 10 starts in 16.

He would be a good player at this level, don't know if Sturrock would try and tempt him out of retirement!!

Yes and no. No more so than Proctor anyway.

The way I see it is that the RAF money was there for the manager and club to bring someone in when he wanted, and that's just what they did.

The 'must start' clause and choice of player is unfortunate, not least because it treated Smith like pooh, but is a separate issue.

Exactly Batch, the money is there for the boss to get players, if he signs a duffer then it's on his head, so long as the club don't blame the Trust cos the player signed wasn't up to it!  Ultimately buying a match ticket funds transfers too, if you don't like where your money goes then don't give em any.
