Post by: mastapeaka on Sunday, November 12, 2006, 17:27:22
I can't be bothered to set up a voting effort yet, just gathering suggestions. I'll throw in the following for starters:

Terry Gibson
Shaun Close
Michael Proctor
Chris McPhee
Frank McAvennie
Fola OnionBaji

Correct.....you can't really count strikers who come in on loan for a month, its something and nothing .....Proctor may have looked crap, but scored a couple, which is what strikers are meant to do.

The likes of McAvennie had been a top class player, and probably only played a couple of games.

Shaun without doubt was the daddy.....as he was our player, cost money, was in a decent side that created loads of chances, was given support by the fans and was utter shite.

Chris Guthrie and Mickey French were decidedly poor.

Bizarrely in my years of watching the Town, we've usually been quite well off for strikers or goalscoring forwards....right up to Fallon last season.

A separate category of strikers on loan might be interesting....Bradley was terible as was Dominic Foley.....as was Luke Nightingale....as was Kyle Lightbourne.....

Rasiak strike rate of almost a goal in every 2 games is somewhat better than Shaun Close's goal in every 50 games.

What do you know of Pawel Abbott.

I was wondering more about his background.....Abbott doesn't seem a quintessentially Polish name.

I've not seen Rasiak in his Y fronts or T shirt, and don't particularly want to thanks.

Don't take it to heart Bartek.....normally these threads are ruined by someone discussing STFCBird's gaenocology or stating the bleeding obvious......I regard it as challenge to acquaint myself with Polish non league football, and I'm sure there may be one or two others who feel similarly

How can you list Colin Gordon amongst the worst Swindon Town strikers?  He was lured from non-league football by Lou Macari -  from Oldbury Town or somesuch, & then proceeded to score 18 goals in the Division 4 Promotion Team before moving to Wimbledon (the proper 'Dons') for £100,000!  True, he wasn't Pele but he did his job, effective but not pretty and earned us good money.  Oh, for his like today.

Incidently, he's now Theo Walcott's agent & probably making a bomb.

He also had a good debut against Oxford in 89 i think. set up Steve White for 2 goals.

So for that he can never be the worst striker. Shame he didn't turn out to be a better player though.

id have to agree. simply on the evidence that he thought he scored the other week in the FA Cup but the ball had only hit the side netting. he didn't hestitate in turning away to celebrate and promptly made a fool of himself.
