Title: Do you have a good contact with players ?
Post by: Bartek on Sunday, November 12, 2006, 00:07:23
Hey another stupid question from Poland !  :D
Do you have a good contact with players ? I mean if you can for example watching their trainings , they give autographs , you can talk with them...What about press conferentions ? Do you have an opportunity to talk with players ? Do you have meetings with players , manager , chairman ?
Ok...
sorry for my English mistakes...

I'll improve it with BBC  :beers:

Seen as Swindon is a rather small town, you do generally bump into the players every now and again and most of them will usually stop for a chat or something.

They also are often seen in the apartments (night club) on saturday nights.

but that is all 'bumping into them' rather than arranged meetings.

We do have a fans forum on Thursday, some players might be there, but the manager will be...so should get to talk to him.

I believe you can go watch training, but I work full time so dont get the chance.

the impression i've always got is that footballers in this country nowadays are not to be spoken to by fans.

it's all a bit alien. i never talk to the players because i find it strange.

so you say they behave as a 'stars' ? or you have never seen them for example on the shopping or training ?

at swindon they are not stars, however some act like they are.

Some however, act very normal and level headed. Sam Parkin was always good for a chat, he never thought he was a 'star' despite being our best player by miles

i don't live in swindon so i'm hardly likely to bump into them in town although rory was friendly enough when he came into my work a couple of times.

Most of the players start off at the spot then move down to the apartments, Most of them act like prima donnas. Ive heard many of stories of when Fallon was here he would saunter around with his head in the air. Monkhouse, Brown, Fola and Peacock were quite nice though when we saw them. Jutkiewicz, Holgate, and Wells were ace in Ibiza!

I wouldn't call it stuck up, it tries to be a bit classy but it's more like drinking in ikea.

Go to The Old Bank if you want a stuck up, overpriced place Ralphy. You'll soon change your mind about The Spot

It is normally full of birds with their heads up there own asses but they are nice to look at. I'd rather go to Longs or McKenzies.

I went to Longs, nice place.

Walkabout is also good.

I hate Longs with a passion. McKenzies is a bit better. To be honest I'd prefer to go to the vic, steam, royal oak, pipers, goddards, roaring donkey, plough or the wheaty.

Which one have I missed out?

Tap and Barrell! Thats it!

I was scared driving past there let alone going for a drink.

I liked Walkabout.

All of town's pretty shit. I can cope with walkabout for a few pints in the afternoon and at night if I'm drunk. But chav central pretty much sums it up. Not far to the gluepot for a few pints and it's a much better option.

Actually, throw in the beehive and prince of wales and that's a pretty good pub crawl. Anybody busy this afternoon? do it in 4 hours. 24 mins a pub, 10 pints. then I go home for my roast dinner at 6.30. Word up.

The Duke of Wellingtons quite good as well. My Dad went in there with me last year when he was over from canada and the dogs just sat infront of him growling! Quality!

I'll check it out one day. Not very far for me. Haven't been out to the check inn for ages. It's a bit of a walk and I'm lazy.

The 2 others on eastcott hill are a bit crap if I remember correctly. The george has been done up recently(ish) and I'm not quite sure what they were trying to achieve. The few times I've been in the globe (is that what it's called?) I've found it a bit odd. That was a while ago though.
