appointing sturrock was a positive move, a step in the right direction and shows (or at least appears) that they listen to the fans sometimes.

the contract seems decent enough, no silly get-out clauses and a minimum of 18 months guaranteeing some stability.

in a time when the board are being criticised from all quarters, i feel it's only fair to give them a bit of credit for this appointment. given the ill-feeling towards them, they could have quite easily appointed someone cheaper - perhaps even ady - and used the typical spin to justify it.

I think everyone has been thinking the same thing but just too scared to say it. Well, I was anyway :D

I for one have not had anything good to say about the board for too long, however it would seem that they have listened and hopefully learned from the past few months and have acted swiftly to get a proven manager who would not have taken the job without some belief that the club want to move in the right direction and have enough ambition for this to happen. Make no mistake Paul Sturrock would have been wanted by alot of clubs and this shows all of us and a fair few on-lookers that we are serious about getting the hell out of this crap league and build to the future with the idea that there must be STABILITY!!

Respect to Ady for giving it a go, but his day will come in a few years time.

Welcome Paul Sturrock and please, please get this club moving toward it's rightful place up the leagues.

Maybe the past few months have made them consider their actions a little more closely.  A little bit of PR savvy can go a long way in this game.

The best appointment that could have been made, all things considered.

reading through other threads, i seee others have beaten me to it.

i think we need to show our gratitude to ssw, not neccesarily to the board particularly but with ssw's and jw's recent statement(s), they need to be made to feel valuable and respected by the fans - which they undoubtedly are.

SSW and James (I think) were at the very least driving forces behind changing Manager in the summer, and have once again this time.  You can't fault their desire to get a good Manager in, but I think the King reign left some scars which were not healed too well by Iffy.

Fair play to them for insisting on this.

Will Devlin now be given a pardon though? I mean, all he did was allow expenditure on stuff to get us promoted, which is what we have now done by bringing in (quite rightly) another top Manager on a probably not to slim salary.

Agreed, they've made a lot of mistakes but Sturrock is a good appointment.

they must have saved money though.  They got the compensation and rid of wises wages.  My guess is the new management team is a lot less than wises was!

Hats off to them - the real work starts here though. Now they've got to fulfill the vision they gave him at interview - he talked about the new ground in the STFC World interview, which says that they may have painted things fairly rosy!

All a manager wants is a bit of professionalism, no Holt-sticking-your-nose-in-where-its-not-wantedism and a fat wad of cash. Ok then.

However- remember the compensation etc has paid for this appointment. Without Wise being appointed in the first place there would have been no compensation, and it was Devlin and Power who brought him in

Dennis Wise said a "nice man called Mike" was invloved with his appointment, although Wise's dad knew powers dad or summink or nuffink

Anyhoo. Fair play to whoever was responsible for appointing Sturrock - remarkable foresight, vision and judgement for STFC. Not only in the appointment itself, but realising that we needed a new manager NOW, not after 6 games with Adie in charge.
