discuss. Title: lonergan Post by: Spud on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 22:49:46 Regarding the first goal:-
Should he have come out for the ball or stayed back? Title: lonergan Post by: PHIL!!!! on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 23:10:16 Quote from: "Spuddy_STFC" Regarding the first goal:- Should he have come out for the ball or stayed back? Definetly should have come for it, in my view. But it was his first game and i'm sure he was a tad nervous. Made a great stop to prevent us going 2-1 down in the first half, but apart from that, he had nothing to do except catch a couple of crosses under pressure.... Title: lonergan Post by: yeo on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 23:12:35 Ah well Smiths back next week anyhow
Title: lonergan Post by: sonic youth on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 23:19:00 he had to come for it and it was the right decision, can't blame him for the first goal at all.
the second goal - what the fuck? i don't acutally know what happened. his kicking is laughably poor - especially considering he scored with one for preston - and although he had very little to do, he didn't fill me with confidence. smith shouldn't have been dropped following the last few performances where he's been absolutely solid. Title: lonergan Post by: Simon Pieman on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 23:23:26 Same as Smith

Title: lonergan Post by: DV on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 23:54:21 nope, we always had that one...just today was the first time we'd played a team in yellow
Regardless of whether he is better than Smith or not, Smith didnt deserve to be dropped today. He's been solid the last two games (probably motm at shewsbury) and that would have done nothing for his confidence. Wrong decision Title: lonergan Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Sunday, November 5, 2006, 00:26:26 made a good save today and looked comfortable coming for crosses. a bit baffled as to why smith didn't start though as he has done well in the last few games

Title: lonergan Post by: DMR on Sunday, November 5, 2006, 01:37:51 It was harsh to drop PS. Lonergan clearly is, when he gets going, a class above so I can understand it.

That's how i saw it. He should have gone. Great finish by the welshie though! Title: lonergan Post by: stfc_steve on Sunday, November 5, 2006, 09:44:57 i thought he was a pile of shit, we have a go at smith for underperforming and being compared to shay given in the programme what a joke :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:

Title: lonergan Post by: stfc11 on Sunday, November 5, 2006, 11:23:51 thats what i thought, probably a clause issue saying he had to start first team games, otherwise they'd never have let him come here to sit on the bench, dunno what he was doing for the second goal! A couple of good saves, and one good kick out to i think it was smith or shakes which started an attack, but i think i prefer Smith.
Title: lonergan Post by: Sussex on Sunday, November 5, 2006, 11:35:23 Tosh. You put out your strongest 11, and if Lonergan is deemed the better keeper then he should start. Harsh for Smith, yes, but thems the breaks.
Title: lonergan Post by: fatbury on Sunday, November 5, 2006, 12:04:17 Well didnt I say Lonergan wasnt all that good ??? I hate being right sometimes ... it was ridiculous to drop a keeper who is actually OURS and did nothing wrong in the games he played to put in a PRESTON keeper who was actually worse in this match that Smith had been in the previous two. Just another example of Williams lack of management skills i expect .. Some people had said that Wise had made the first enquiry .. actually all he did was send a scout out to watch him ... Williams was the one who decided he wanted him in .. poor decisions already Ady! Sooner we get a new manager the better .. but i digress
Smith back in for next match i say! Title: lonergan Post by: DMR on Sunday, November 5, 2006, 12:54:12 shut up fatbury you also said he was a midget

Why don't you put in for the GK Coach role? seeing as you think you know everything regarding GK's. I expect so, I got that impression from what Paul Simpson had to say about the loan deal... Title: lonergan Post by: ibelieveinmrreeves on Sunday, November 5, 2006, 13:57:56 Wasn't this his first first-team game since his cruciate ligament injury? If it was I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. But yesterday really wasn't the best time for him make his comeback.

It was no surprise that Smith was dropped. Managers at other clubs wouldn't allow a goalie to go out on loan, only to sit on the bench. Paul Smith knew the situation as he stated last week.
