Title: Leaflet ban reinstated Post by: pauld on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 01:07:16 After giving us permission to hand out the Fans' Consortium leaflets yesterday, Martyn Starnes appears to have had a change of heart. This evening we received an email from him, sent at 6:40 pm, withdrawing permission for us to hand out the leaflets at the CG tomorrow.
Anyway, we'll be leafletting the perimeter of the CG as per last week, so if you want to see what the fuss is about (but don't get too excited, they're not worth the fuss caused), look out for dodgy looking geezers with "dangerous" leaflets. Oh, and we'll be attempting to sign up new members for the Trust again tomorrow as well, again as per last week. Any help gratefully received - meet at the Trust office at 1.30 pm. I despair of this club I really do. Title: Leaflet ban reinstated Post by: Nomoreheroes on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 01:11:47 For those of us who don't live in the country, can we se whats in the leaflet ?

Millom Title: Leaflet ban reinstated Post by: pauld on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 01:20:17 They seem to have given up on the Health and Safety angle and he's basically said he doesn't like the content of the leaflet as he feels it is detrimental to the club and the great progress that has been made over the last five years. In a nutshell.

Title: Leaflet ban reinstated Post by: yeo on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 01:41:04 do the club own the car park?
in fact do the club have the right to stop you handing things out on Council property? I bet he's a bit embarassed tonite. Anyway, they dont own the ground, so how can they be dictatatorial about handing out leaflets? Surely that should be down to the Council? Just a thought. NMH Title: Leaflet ban reinstated Post by: pauld on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 02:19:21 Nope, he's quite explicit that it's down to the content of the leaflet. Apparently, in a week when the Red Army Fund has yet again committed to spending several grand to bring in a player the club couldn't otherwise afford (without, as yet, any public acknowledgement of that from the club), Mr Starnes feels we don't want to help the club.

Presumably rank has been pulled. Noone is stupid enough to lift the ban without reading the leaflet before doing so. Although a more minor than an overspend point it clearly demonstrtes the lack of communiction at our club. So thanks to you all - if Mr Starnes et al think they can silence the fans with these kind of silly tricks, it really doesn't seem to be working very well, does it?

Absoloutly interseting point though was that the club let in a group of Churchfield students who play for a football team that trains on the County Ground Extension who are opposed to any historic redevelopment plans as it would mean that they lost their training facility. They were canvassing opinions the the Winners before the game with video camera's the works ! Needless to say Mr D bought them some sweets and did a very nice interview with them. And we are not allowed to hand out leaflets with defamatory remarks !?!?!?! SHAMBLES............................ABSOLOUTE FUCKING SHAMBLES ! Title: Leaflet ban reinstated Post by: DV on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 18:45:10 it would actually mean they got better training facilites surely?
Title: Leaflet ban reinstated Post by: Fred Elliot on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 18:48:13 Quote from: "DV85" it would actually mean they got better training facilites surely? We think they were basing their assumptions on the old proposals mate We stated that far from excluding the community the new plans would enhance the exsisting facilities and that we were equally keen to promote grass roots sport to find another Micheal Pook etc but the old proposals were the ones the club put together themselves, which lost the extension to houses. The other plans have always had astro turf training pitches included?!? Title: Leaflet ban reinstated Post by: Fred Elliot on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 18:56:35 Exactly !!!!!!!
My main point was DV the sheer hypocrysy (sp?) of letting them in to spout negativity about redevelopment plans and banning us ! Title: Leaflet ban reinstated Post by: DV on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 18:59:26 so...the club put together some crap proposals that get rid of the cricket pitch and extension for houses.
Then the trust and co put together plans that have extra training pitches etc... Then the club bring in some kids, to get some sort of proof that the re-development needs to include training facilites, despite the fact it was THEIR plans that got rid of it, not OUR plans have I got this right, because that seems fucking stupid even for our board!? Title: Leaflet ban reinstated Post by: Fred Elliot on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 19:06:15 In part DV
I just think it was the school/club reading too much into the original proposals mate Like I said, what galls me was the fact they were allowed to carry this video interview in on in the Winners !! Title: Leaflet ban reinstated Post by: pauld on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 19:22:08 Quote from: "Fred Elliot" And we are not allowed to hand out leaflets with defamatory remarks !?!?!?!! Erm I don't think you mean defamatory - there's certainly nothing defamatory in there! In fact there's barely any mild criticism which makes the Stasi-style ban seem all the more bizarre. Title: Leaflet ban reinstated Post by: pauld on Saturday, November 4, 2006, 19:22:28 To be fair, I think the kids were just going on the basis of what's been published (ie the club's old proposals) which would have got rid of the green space and it was a project with the Study Centre to find out more. The Study Centre do some great work and more power to their elbow. The contrast was a bit odd, though.

It is pathetic. I hate this accusation that we beginning to hear that people have 'their own agenda' - in a nutshell, we, as fans, do have our own agenda - to be the best football club we can! That is it! |
