Title: SWINDON v LINCOLN MATCHDAY THREAD
Post by: Fred Elliot on Saturday, October 28, 2006, 08:50:30
Ok

After all thats gone on this week, I truly hope that for 90 mins everybody puts all the shit to one side and gets behind the lads on the pitch.

It will be a toughie with Lincoln scoring goals for fun and Ifil out.

Im going for a 2-2 draw (Fola and Peacock), which I personally will be pleased with.

Good luck Adi !

BBC Radio Swindon?

Otherwise, you need to splash the cash for STFC World.

Unless you can get Radio Swindon there's no way of listening over the net (contractual reasons apparently). Massively frustrating.

How we getting on lads? Any crumbs of information would be much appreciated.

To sum up, seemed under pressure for the first 10-15 minutes. Peacock had a good attempt on goal, just wide. Thats about it really.

I live in Soouthampton so can only pick up bbc radio wiltshire.  They always do swindon games untill it comes to the fa cup -  then they cover an fa cup game.

Massively frustrating, as i dont know if we are playing well/crap etc

'Lincoln are the best team we've seen at the CG so far'

We can't really get a foothold so far, but they've not really threatened.

We have a corner!

Shit performance, possible were played well for about 30 min of 1st half then 2nd half you'd have through ifil was on the pitch, it was hoof after hoof.

Once or twice, ye ok, worth ago but after the 3 you realise its not really working then try something eles.

Lincoln were even worse, got a lucky goal, mistake my williams.

Fola shold have had 4-5 goals, but failed to produce.

Poor game really.

We looked good up to the goal. Then we went long and to be fair created  chance or two.

Overall not a bad performance but everyone needs a win against Hereford. We can't afford a slump now.

hoof ball is the way forward then by the looks of it? if we play like that every week we'll finish bottom half simple as that. Lincoln were shite today though. and even though we were poor we still deserved more from the game. we don't create chances and we don't score goals. you cannot go up like that

i didn't think it looked like 2nd v 3rd, it was a poor standard.

we were better in the first half, them in the second. our strikers are gash and they've got a good one.

I was beginning to wonder id I was the only one bored into submission today.  Thought they were abject and we were uninterested.  3 good chances but such a slow game, no pressure from either team.

I gave up with the frustration early on when we weren't allowed in to put the flags out incase we caused trouble at the AGM (i.e ran from the TE corner up the Arkells, through the entrance down the corridoor and through the door without someone spotting us).

Trust banned from getting members around the ground.  Got myself signed up though, just to piss the club off if anything else.

Then got hassled when trying to get the number 12 shirt to go crowd surfing in the TE.

Had enough really, and the performance just finished me off.

First half, Lincoln did nothing but hoof, playing for a draw or a lucky break. Very poor. We played some good football in patches, and deserved to lead at half-time on chances, particularly from Fola's miss from the Brown cross, and his failure to dive at a Smith cross to head in.
We then tried to out-hoof them in the second half, and stopped playing moves on the floor, but they were better hoofers, and gradually got on top. Adie made a bad mistake to let in Forrester for his well-taken goal, rather Ifil-like. ( Last season, that is.)
I had a concern  that being manager might affect his game. On radio. he did say how difficult and different it was. Also, he is travelling to watch games next week for new players, and this is a concern also, how will this affect his training and preparation? He is a key defender, and captain, and should not have been lumbered with the manager's job.

Thought Nicho had a decent game, so next week I'd expect Williams to sit on the bench,  its too much to expect him to play and manage.

I thought we were quite good. First half we were by far the better team, but not a lot of chances came our way and Lincoln never had a sniff at goal.
Second half was more even, although Lincoln had a couple of chances, whereas we had many more.
I felt Shakes should have socred in the second half when he put the ball straight at the keeper from 5 yards out, although to be fair he had to slide to get to it.
Onibuje was unlucky on many occassions. One inparticular where his header was cleared off the line!

MOTM for me is between Onibuje, Peacock and Weston. I thought they each played really well.

Weston motm for me, not sure about the strikers though Phil, fola was involved but gash, and Peacock did fuck all.

Vincents fucking crap, play Nicho left back when ifil returns. He's like a hoofball merchant Ifil but worse.

you thought Fola was MotM Phil!!!!!

Get a clue, he missed from a yard out with an open goal, then headed the ball right at the keeper on a one on one.

He was by far the worst player for us today, and dare I say it but Christian Roberts would have scored a couple today

Onibuje has pace, and some skill. Stick him on the right wing and let him do the setting up instead of finishing

Fola did some neat things though, but on occassions fucked up slightly. Was unlucky not to score, but should have bagged himself one in the first half.
I thought Peacock worked very hard and was very good with the ball at his feet, in my opinion.

I totally agree about Vincent. In other games he seems to do alright and keeps it simple, but his distribution like you say, was woeful. Plus he seems to stand off his man to much.

He worked hard, got in some good positions and linked up well with play.
I agree he should have come away with a goal though.

I must have been to a different game! First half we pissed all over them! I thought our approach play was some of the best I've seen all season. For me, weston, peacock and smith were very good. The rest also played well for most of the first 45 minutes.
The problem is the same as it's been all season. Finishing. Hardley a chance on target all game. Fola creates problems down the flank, so why don't we play him there? Substitutions were wrong in my opinion. I'd like to see Rhodes up front, playing off peacock.  And I couldn't see why Brownlie came on at all.
The goal was the result of a massive mistake by Ady, felt sorry for him as apart from that he hardley put a foot wrong. The whole game changed when they scored and that's my one worry, the fact that with ady on the pitch, changes didn't seem to be made fast enough, and I'm not just talking about substitutions. Hopefully Ady will name himself as sub next week. Not because he had a bad game, cos he didn't, but because he needs to be dictating from the touchline. Nicholas played well enough to keep his place.

right before half time, Peacock played a ball over the top to Brown who got passed his man and crossed it on and Onibuje missed the ball!!!

Yeah, Hertha lost, again.

Was at Swindon, difficult to go to Berlin every other week for football when you live in Yeovil!
Only really look out for their results cos I was born there.

I look out for Hannover 96's games as I used to live close by.

Moving on....

I found the Lincoln bosses statement after the game quite odd...

Quote from: "John Schofield"
Nobody expected us to get anything today

I think a fair few people might have expected Lincoln to get a result to be honest. What with Lincoln flying at the moment and Swindon having an almighty shit week with moral low.

Ah well.
