Post by: Scot Munroe on Friday, October 27, 2006, 18:54:42
Ionikos FC have been punished with a four-point penalty after their president Christos Kanellakis punched the referee following the team's Greek Super League defeat at Kerkira FC on 1 October.

Costly punch
The incident occurred at Corfu airport as the Ionikos travelling party prepared to return to Athens in the wake of Kerkira's 2-0 victory. Kanellakis's decision to punch match official Theofilos Fotiadis has cost his club €80,000 while causing Ionikos to drop to 14th place in the 16-team top flight owing to the deducted points. In addition, Kanellakis has been banned from Greece's football stadiums for the next three years. Ionikos will be able to appeal to the Hellenic Football Federation.
