It's bound to be somewhere in South America. Theyre fucking nuts down there. Constantly seeing clips of fans running onto the pitch to "confront" players.

Ajax vs Feyenoord is pretty bad remember having a tour of the amsterdam arena and they had bullet proof glass around the way end along with a tunnel to a private train station so that both sets of supporters dont 'interact' outside the ground.

I work with a fiftysomething year old dutch lady, when I was speaking to her about dutch football she said she was a Feyenoord fan, then proceeded to tell me how much she hated Ajax.  Bit surreal but class!

Whilst it's hardly Boca Juniors v River Plate or The Old Firm, Blackburn v Burnley can get a bit tasty. Not that they've played much of course in recent times.

Another good South American one is Vasco da Gama v Flamengo

Boca River is actually pretty bad, have heard of people being shot to death on matchdays and guns in the ground, etc Its very gang orientated. Idimmagine gala vs besiktas is pretyt violent aswell.

Think you'd have to go some to beat some of the rivalries in the old Yugoslavia, given that Dinamo Zagreb claim to have sparked the Croat-Serb part of the Balkan Civil Wars of the 90s at a home game against Red Star Belgrade. And, iirc, weren't Arkan's Tigers originally Red Star's firm? That makes Celtic-Rangers look pretty tame in comparison.

Red Star's lot were involved in the overthrow of Milosevic(not Savo), so must have some sort of political element attached to them.

Celtic-Rangers games these days aren't anything like they used to be, still the level of violence around Glasgow on Auld Firm days is ridiculous.  I saw three fights in about five minutes one night I was up there, and there are stabbings and attacks all over the estates as well.

Nothing is likely to beat the sheer lunacy of Boca-River though.  Loco SA.

Maccabi Haifa v Hapoel Haifa can be a nasty one with Maccabi Haifa fans singing about Gas chambers and the Holocaust. And thats just to get warmed up.

Read 442 for good derby games stories.

Is Maccabi an Arab club then?  I'd always thought of all teams being Jewish for some reason.

Bare in mind that teams have been singing songs about the holocaust and making hissing noises to Spurs and Ajax for years.  Probably doesn't have the same effect as singing it to an Israeli team though.

I think Amir knows they are from Israel! The point he is making is that you would expect Israeli teams to be Jewish but if the Maccabi fans are singing songs about the gas chambers they are they are not clearly Jewish are they?

I think you should get your coat :?

It's funny how when you read you learn things, don't you think?

Not the same as first hand experience, but if you can learn to evaluate information and you check a variety of sources, you normally get a pretty good grasp of things.

When you off to uni?

Like with all other things in Israel, Maccabi are the Right-wing Likud followers and Hapoel are Left-wing Labour.  Its always Left -v- Right unless an Arab team is playing.

When I worked our there, Betar Jerusalem (another Right-wing Jewish club) and Bnei Sakhnin (Arab club) had a few tasty meetings with fights and riot police called

Remember when Graeme Souness planted a Galatasary flag in the middle of their nearest and dearest rival's pitch one year.  Legendary stuff.  Probably his finest moment as a manager.
