Does anyone know if the Steve Foley currently, coaching at Ipswich Town is also the Legendary Stigger?

Pretty sure it isn't, not 100% though.

One of my favourite players ever he was.

He was ace wasn't he?  Rumour had it he was a piss-pot though?  And he had a tendency to pork out over the summer break.

What an engine in midfield tho when on form

Yep Stigger never gets much of a mention, when it comes to selections for all time teams etc......but he was right up there with our best.

Probably liked a drink a bit too much.....he always used to return from close season looking like Mr Blobby.....Macari used to send him out in something like a plastic sweat suit, and make him do laps of the CG extension....while the rest did training.

Hoddle fired him out because he allegedly turned up pissed and late for the team coach for a Boxing Day away game.....it was Macari who then signed him again.

It is absolutely definitely not the former STFC Legend.

Stigger was a top player for us and loved getting pissed to boot. He was a little bit weeeeeeeeey, a little bit wooooooooooah, a little bit daaaangeeeeroussss. A typical Scouser in other words.

The Steve Foley in question though, spent his whole playing career at Colchester.

I remember the hat-trick against Leicester in 91 well when we beat them 5-2.

He would be in my Swindon Best 11 any day.

Fuck me...you got that on authority Reg?  Awesome...Macari was the kiddy...

I still think the players between '85 and '91 were the best we ever had interms of commitment (Macari and early Ossie) and young skill (late Ossie and Hoddle)

Macari was renowned for no nonsense and fitness was paramountRemind you of anyone?). They did'nt like the Bootcamps and running up and down sand dunes, but by bollox they were fit!
One of the reasons imo that ossie did well.along with a  tweak in style.

Those were the days....... :old:

I know that Reg has a lot of knowledge, but I thought the Foley thing was common knowledge ! I believe it was a bin bag that Foley used to wear.

I remember while I was stewarding at the CG back in the days under Adilles, Stigger turned up drunk driving his car and was prepared to go out and play for the town but Ossie saw the state of him and sent him home, the chief steward at the time Ray Rodgers saw him in a wrecked state and stopped him driving home and ordered him a taxi, he didnt play a lot more games after that but he was one hell of a player absolutely loved him.

If he had avoided the boze he would have been a great star at any club.

My 4th game ever, absolutely loved it.  Until now I never knew stigger was such a boozer, Iguess at the time I was too young to appreciate it.  Anyone have any ideas what he is up to these days?

There used to be a picture of Stigger behind the bar of the Swiss Chalet  in Gorse Hill (don't know if it's still called that, I've not been down there for years) propped up between the Landlord and some other bloke, totally arseholed 8) I have no idea if it was the day before a game!

He also tried to sell my mate a car once - Without getting into the murky waters of libel, I am not sure it was actually his to sell.

A great player whose career was badly fucked up by injuries (and maybe his liking for the pop)

Didn't know he was a boozer either. But then I was about 11 when I watched him play, I probably had other things on my mind. I remember that rocket away to Blackburn in the 1990 play off semi. I was right behind it all the way. Just thinking about it brings a smile to my face. Beautiful.

Not in the same class as the Blackburn goal but a belter nonetheless was his strike at Bournemouth in 88/89 (we won 3-2). I think he was Player of the Season that year.
