Title: CG use by Bath Rugby
Post by: broomfield on Tuesday, October 17, 2006, 10:06:33
I was watching the Rugby between Bath and the Ospreys the other week and saw that the question over the redevelopment of the Bath Rec for Rugby was in question.

Thers a big campaign to keep Rugby in Bath requiring big investment in the ground, but also a vocal campaign to turn down ground redevelopment due to environmental issues.

According to BBC1 (Grandstand), one option being seriously considered was  a move to Swindon.

Surely the only option would be the CG.

If this is the case, it would surely bring extra income to the club and raise our profile.

This has worked for Reading FC with London Irish. Does anyone have any news on this??

Has the club been in talks with Bath RFC over this??

think it is more of a rumour, which has been doing the round for years!

It was seriously mooted by both parties for a while and there was a piece in one of the nationals a couple of weeks ago although it turned out to be old news.

From what I have seen and herd the fans are dead set against the move and a petition is doing the rounds with the full support of club.

Can’t see it happening unless we move home in their direction.  Besides haven’t Swindon got a Rugby team albeit rather a dreadful one looking at their results?

For me whilst the money would be good, the prospect of cider swilling egg chasers turning up and ruining the pitch hardly fill me with joy.  If it was rugby league I'd be more interested.

but think of being able to drink beer in the stands.

It's not likely to happen as Bath fans won't go for it, if anything they'd probably end up developing in Chippenham as a last resort.

You prefer girly northern touch rugby? Give me proper rugby any day. Just not on our pitch (though Reading manage OK!)..

Fraid so, less emphasis on scoring penalties, more pace and more tries IMHO.

Swindon RFC got promoted last season and struggled at the start of this one against teams that will be towards the top at the end of the season. Won their first game of the season 25-0 on saturday though

We had a bit of a debate about this on MOS recently..

I referred anyone interested to this article which appeared in  the Guardian last month.

And the guys are in general bigger, stronger and better athletes - none of this big, fat, front row lark!

It's much more interesting to watch. The tackling is just as hard - the fact they have to get off afterwards doesn't change that. It just makes the game slightly more tactical and less of being simply a fight with a ball involved

You can tell I'm from up North can't you  :D

Having a peek at their site they've got quite a nice link up with the Stroud & Swindon building society where the equivalent 1% of all deposits is donated to the club.

What with the Nationwide links and all perhaps it's one the club/trust/L&P/consortium could look at implementing.

Stroud & Swindon - Support and Save – Melksham Branch The Star
6 February 2006, 1:22 pm
By Simon Clark
Since the launch earlier this season of Bath Rugby’s partnership with local building society Stroud & Swindon, Bath Rugby supporters in the Melksham area alone have deposited over £100,000 in the new Bath Rugby savings accounts. Zac Feau’nati, who lives in Melksham, popped into the branch last week to meet the staff and gave them a signed ball as a “thank you” from Bath Rugby Community Foundation.

Supporters get a good rate of interest on their savings and in addition, at the end of the season, Bath Rugby Community Foundation will receive a donation from Stroud & Swindon of 1% of the average monthly balances in the accounts.

 There are two accounts available.

·  An instant access account with a minimum opening deposit of £100.

·  A special Junior Bath Rugby Moneybox account with a minimum opening balance of just £5.

Help your child start the savings habit and support Bath Rugby Community by opening a Junior Bath Rugby Moneybox account … and receive a FREE Moneybox.

In addition to Melksham, Stroud & Swindon Building Society have branches in:

- Bath (2A Wood Street)

- Trowbridge

- Bradford on Avon

- Frome

- Swindon

- Keynsham

And many other Branches and Agencies in the South West (please visit their website for full details www.stroudandswindon.co.uk)

Have to say fair play to the egg chasers.  Browsing their site I'm incredibly impressed with the amount of community focus and events they run.

Plenty of link ups with smaller local clubs, master classes for the local youths, newsletters with what past pros of the club are up to now,  public forums on the ground development etc...

If we swap off field management teams, they can use our ground.
