Title: Keeper Solution Post by: stfctownenda on Monday, October 16, 2006, 10:58:50 Great win at the weekend thought we were much better much more convincing and we actually took our chances quality stuff. Awful news about Brezovan hes been great this year, have to agree with some of the sentiments of below that Smith isnt up to the job. Reckon we should try and get Tom Heaton back on loan from Man Utd, hes 3rd or 4th choice and they may even give us him just for the experience and they pay his wages as hes doing nothing at Man U at the moment. Plus wee Willy knows Sir Alex well apparently, so if he pulls his finger out then maybe he could secure this deal, thought he looked a quality keeper and we were in the league above then and apparently he still comes down occasionally to watch games as he enjoyed his time here.
Title: Keeper Solution Post by: Cookie on Monday, October 16, 2006, 11:35:57 Heaton was shite last season.
Title: Keeper Solution Post by: Piemonte on Monday, October 16, 2006, 11:37:03 I'd have no problem with Heaton coming back, I'm not sure it will happen though given the amount of keepers united have out on loan currently and the finances of the deal. And the fact we are in L2 now.
To be honest I think Phil Smith deserves a run of a few games. At least give him a chance to try and prove himself. Problem with that being other clubs wont release a keeper to be second choice at a L2 club. Title: Keeper Solution Post by: fatbury on Monday, October 16, 2006, 11:56:28 Ive heard on the grapevine .. Reading No 3 is the man we are targeting..
the Aussie keeper Adam Federici ... however his loan spell at Bristol City isnt over until 28th October .. but he hasnt been playing so it may end early and a move to us where he will be first choice - he played against us in the friendly and looked BIG and a good keeper Title: Keeper Solution Post by: DV on Monday, October 16, 2006, 12:09:42 Quote from: "Cookie" Heaton was shite last season. no he wasnt.... ..he made the odd mistake like all keepers do....but he was far from shite. Title: Keeper Solution Post by: fatbury on Monday, October 16, 2006, 12:11:09 Heaton was good .. very good
Title: Keeper Solution Post by: herthab on Monday, October 16, 2006, 12:12:56 Thought Heaton looked a better keeper than Evans last season.

Title: Keeper Solution Post by: Peter Venkman on Monday, October 16, 2006, 13:06:31 Heaton would be good cover, Federici is going to be quite a good keeper too one day
Title: Keeper Solution Post by: Northern Red on Monday, October 16, 2006, 13:11:49 Does anyone really believe that a man who was on the bench for a champions league tie will really want to come to League 2?
I think Heaton is beyond us now, and we need to be more realistic. Title: Keeper Solution Post by: PHIL!!!! on Monday, October 16, 2006, 13:13:37 Quote from: "fatbury" Ive heard on the grapevine .. I got told that we're signing a Reading keeper onloan, by someone who works within the club. Wasn't sure who the player actually was though. Title: Keeper Solution Post by: Frigby Daser on Monday, October 16, 2006, 13:30:41 This has all the makings of a rumour snowballing...Poyet tells the masseur, who tells all the blokes he's rubbing (!) down at the half marathon, who tell their mates who are Town fans, who tells everyone else.
What the hell...its all we've got right now. fact is, Adriano Basso is keeping this Federici out of the City side and I'd choose Smith ahead of Basso - going on the fact Crawley fans seem to like Smith, whereas even Woking fans thought Basso was utter bollocks at the same level. I'd be gutted if I was Smith - I reckon we should sign Pavel Srnicek. Title: Keeper Solution Post by: Northern Red on Monday, October 16, 2006, 15:24:50 On the keeper front, Sam Allardyce has stated he'd like to get his keepers out on loan. Ignoring Ian Walker and Ali Al-Habsi who he's offered to Chelsea, he also mentioned a trainee: Chris Haworth.
Probably worth Wisey seeing if Chris fancies a season at Swindon? Title: Keeper Solution Post by: fatbury on Monday, October 16, 2006, 15:31:37 Good shout ... I hope we get someone BIG like Brez in .. really made a difference!

Nicky Hammond is a regular visitor to the CG, he was there on Saturday and left around 4.30ish to get back for the Chelsea game. Title: Keeper Solution Post by: sonic youth on Monday, October 16, 2006, 16:23:00 Scouting Brezovan no doubt...
Smith deserves a chance, he's looked alright whenever I've seen him but lacks the same height and physical presence as Brezovan. We need good cover for Smith as I'm not convinced by him yet. I don't see why Heaton wouldn't come back here, he may be third choice at Manure but that's still a fair way down the pecking order - especially once Foster comes back from Watford. He's a good keeper and I recall seeing an interview with him towards the end of last season where he said he kept an eye on our results despite being out in Belgium. I suppose the fact Iffy and Reeves are no longer here may hinder our chances as well. Chelsea are bound to have a load of young keepers, although the timing isn't right. Leeds, maybe? Title: Keeper Solution Post by: DMR on Monday, October 16, 2006, 18:19:34 I think Foster and Howard can both be recalled so really Heatons fifth.
Give Smith his chance but if Heaton was here I'd certainly put him in. Title: Keeper Solution Post by: Samdy Gray on Monday, October 16, 2006, 18:34:16 Heaton looked solid when he was here (bar that stupid goal he conceded against Port Vale), I'd definitely have him back as No 1.
Title: Keeper Solution Post by: DV on Monday, October 16, 2006, 18:49:30 when I originally mentioned Heaton I didnt mean as a number 1....but we do need back up....I mean who has the confidence in Jon Stewart at this stage in his career to play first team football.
I know I dont, same with Bulman last year....the highlight of his career is saving a jason lee penalty....then conceding 4..... Even if the loan keeper never plays and doesnt even make the bench I feel we need back up Title: Keeper Solution Post by: DMR on Monday, October 16, 2006, 18:56:49 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/bolton_wanderers/6054976.stm

This club will never achieve anything or go anywhere with these in charge. If we go up they have to pay bonuses so dont bank on it happening Firstly nothing will move on the ground because the council will not work with them. Secondly no investors will work with them either So you tell me how we can move forward? Smithy can do a job if not, we'll get a reserve prem keeper for 6 months, easiest position to cover imho Title: Keeper Solution Post by: PHIL!!!! on Tuesday, October 17, 2006, 10:24:29 Quote from: "DribblingSissy" Can we get back to the keeper topic....is this reading guy that seems to be the juiciest gossip any good then??? Well according to someone i know with in the club, we are signing a Reading keeper onloan.....When i was talkin to Gus, he just said Dennis had been on the phone all day, trying to get a new keeper. I'd say thats enough to go by, but Dennis may have found a better keeper to bring in, so i guess we're back to speculating/gossip.
