Is there any software you have to install for it to work?

Ultra, I bought my Mrs one of those for her birthday and had the same problems.

Does your PC have XP service pack 2? if not it wont work :x

Eventually I got round it by taking mine round a mates house (his pc has SP2) taking all the music off mine on his his PC then onto her zen. proper pain  in the arse.

Sadly XP SP2 makes my PC die completley. (any ideas geeks?)

What's your pc like spec wise?

Quote
To install the service pack, your computer must have a CD-ROM drive or Internet connection and meet the following minimum requirements:
•

233 megahertz (MHz) processor
•

64 megabytes (MB) of RAM
•

1.8 GB of available hard disk space during installation

To determine whether your computer meets these requirements:
•

Click Start, right-click My Computer and then click Properties. On the General tab, under Computer, you will see your computer's processor speed and RAM listed.

Failing that - are you running a genuine copy of windows xp (not downloaded or copied in any shape or form)? Otherwise sp2 won't install properly.

Seems a bit daft that it doesn't work with sp1, especially as the spec says it will. What is the exact problem? Does xp recognise the player itself? Or can it not transfer songs even though it does recognise it? If you look on the support site for creative there's probably a solution.

My PC is a P4 2.4g with 512mb ram i think, so spec not an issue.

I bought the PC off a mate. I suspect that the windows is not legit.

XP wont recognise that the player is there at all

If windows isn't legit then that's your problem (with service pack 2).
But a helpful tip if you ever want a legit copy:
Look for an OEM license version on the net (of XP) and then buy something cheap with it like a mouse for a fiver. You save yourself a bundle that way.

I'll look for a solution to the service pack 1 problem though

No problems

So the mp3 players is being recognised by windows then? (it shows in my computer). If it is in there but not being detected by the software (i.e. windows media player or the creative software) it's probably a registry issue (with the permissions). If that's the case then go here (http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/kb) and search for SID14275. Then under the solution that comes up look for the changing usb permission in the system registry bit. The page may also tell you how to solve other problems if this is not the issue.
