Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: Johno on Saturday, September 30, 2006, 20:00:52 Tonight i went and watched the Swindon Wildcats at the link centre. lost 3-0 to sheffield. I know nothing about ice hockey, but they did suck.
anyway, anyone else abit partial to ice hockey on here? Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: spacey on Saturday, September 30, 2006, 20:12:21 Didn't they used to be called The Icelords or did I imagine that? Anyway I might go and see them if they were Lords of the ice but as it is they're just cats lacking guidance.
Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: mr ian on Saturday, September 30, 2006, 20:19:23 do they sing at ice hockey?
Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: SwindonTownFC on Saturday, September 30, 2006, 20:22:00 i went once was shite, apart from there were 3 fights which made it a whole lot more entertaining
Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: hansgruber on Saturday, September 30, 2006, 20:25:50 I like decent ice hockey i.e. NHL. Went to see a Philadelphia Flyers game when I was in America. It's amazing how huge those guys are and how hard they hit each other!
Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: Johno on Saturday, September 30, 2006, 20:29:17 tonight i was sat by the 'noisy' lot, about 3 drums, a horn and about 10 people chanting. Was abit annoying. There was even a fight, nearly was but got broke up? thats no good. Also Swiondon didn't even score, thats rubbish.
Its alright though, i'd go back again, but not anytine soon probably. Isn't the hugeness due to padding underneath the voluminous shirts? Hence why they hit each other. Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: Johno on Saturday, September 30, 2006, 20:38:04 really, anyone could do it. 8)
Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: spacey on Saturday, September 30, 2006, 20:42:14 Why do these teams have to be the Philadelphia flyers or the Swindon wildcats? Why can't they just be Philadelphia or Swindon? I mean it's not as if the Swindon team actually consists of wildcats, and I'll wager the Philadelphia lot can't fly.
Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: mr ian on Saturday, September 30, 2006, 20:47:09 because it sounds cool
Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: spacey on Saturday, September 30, 2006, 20:51:43 How queer.
Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: reeves4england on Saturday, September 30, 2006, 22:16:18 nPower Swindon Wildcats actually.
I think I used to enjoy going when I was little but haven't been for a long time. They used to be called "The Chill" and possibly the "Ice Lords" although I'm not entirely sure. Wildcats is quite a recent thing I think Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: Boeta on Saturday, September 30, 2006, 22:51:38 they were orginally called the wildcats years and years ago (ten maybe?) - i went to a few games and really enjoyed it. would watch it if they showed the british league on sky

Take Flyers new signing Derian Hatcher for example- he's 6' 4" and weighs 244 pounds. Imagine getting twatted by that. Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: hansgruber on Sunday, October 1, 2006, 11:21:37 you can't be a metric boy Reg surely? I'm only 26 and I still work in feet and inches

Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: McLovin on Sunday, October 1, 2006, 12:14:10 I go to see it at the Link a couple of times a month. The sport is ace, the fans are wankers.

Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: Leggett on Sunday, October 1, 2006, 21:08:43 agreed. i like it, if you wanna go for the fights, go watch the 2nd-tier swindon team... my mate plays for em, we were playing some team from london, made up purely of canadians, alot of fights :P blood too. woop! :P
oh yea, and the Icelords were about 10years ago. we won the league too, but went under after EA sports pulled the plug on their sponsorship. i cant remember why tho, i think there was a scandal or summat. For Ice Hockey fighting, I recommend cult 70's film "Slapshot", featuring Paul Newman. Lots of ridiculous lines in it as well... You can't go wrong! Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: Leggett on Monday, October 2, 2006, 22:09:02 strangely, i do believe the team of canadians my mate was playing against were wearing the same strip as in that film i think!

Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: Tails on Tuesday, October 3, 2006, 20:23:35 I used to regularly watch Swindon Chill/Wildcat/Lynx after home games when I was in primary school, loved it.

I also used to be the physio for the Swindon team while they were the Swindon Phoenix (i think) was quite a few years ago now. Great fun and the fights are great too! Atmosphere is shit though :( Title: Swindon Wildcats Post by: Batch on Wednesday, October 4, 2006, 11:36:50 Another 'Leafs fan here. I say fan, I mean I read their results on teletext. Blame the misses cousins, bleedin' moose fuckers! Saw them play in the Air Canada centre last time we were in Toronto. Nice stadium, like the way it converts to a basketball (bloke netball) court too. Prefered the Maple Leaf Gardens though.
Anyway, strangest crowd chant I heard was at the SJ Shark v Dallas stars. Sharks score their 4th, organ does the Scooby Doo 'puppy power' thing, everyone chants "PIZZA"! Apparently a local Pizza company was sponsoring the game and to quote the bloke next to us "4 in the net, Pizza we get". Other than that American crowds 'suck ass'. Been to a few Swindon games, was reasonably good fun if a little local league-ish. |
