The Retro Remakes (http://www.remakes.org) remaking old skool games in 3 months competition just finished (well at the start of the month). You can download the games here (http://www.retroremakes.com/comp2006/screenshots.php). Some of them are pretty ace. I'd recomend Counterclockwise (some obscure spectrum game), Froggy Ribbit (Froger - shock), The Pyramid (another random obscure one), Bombzuka (Bombuzal), clockwiser (some amiga puzzler) and any that you remember playing as a youngster.
