Title: Striker Post by: Cookie on Monday, September 11, 2006, 08:59:42 great game!
Kick off was the best game of the Amiga generation though. Title: Striker Post by: RobertT on Monday, September 11, 2006, 10:52:13 Sensible World of Soccer for me.
The original Football Manager was the greatest Management Sim ever.....in about 1985. Imagine playing it now! Title: Striker Post by: mr ian on Monday, September 11, 2006, 10:55:48 what was the game on the mega drive where all you could see was the top of there heads?
Title: Striker Post by: RobertT on Monday, September 11, 2006, 11:02:16 Microprose Football or something like that I think.
Title: Striker Post by: TheKingCY on Monday, September 11, 2006, 12:07:19 Was Striker the game where you had to wait during the game for a chance then use the angle thingy to shoot? Some games would go by without even one chance??

Title: Striker Post by: Devon Red on Monday, September 11, 2006, 16:12:20 I used to love microprose soccer where you could zig-zag up the pitch and always score. was playing virtua striker the other day on the x-box.....that truly is a shit game!
Does anyone remember football director on the bbc computer? Got to be one of the best games ever! Title: Striker Post by: flammableBen on Monday, September 11, 2006, 17:09:04 This badboy?
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d35/flammableben/fdir.gif Just having a go. Seems pretty ace. Just beat wolves 3-1. Hoever Sensible World of Soccer wins hands down as best footballing game ever. Title: Striker Post by: Northern Red on Monday, September 11, 2006, 17:40:36 CM2 is my favourite - the ability to play a whole season in about 2 hours is the appeal.
As for playing as players, SWOS was great - the ridiculous aftertouch being the highlight. Title: Striker Post by: Devon Red on Monday, September 11, 2006, 22:22:36 Quote This badboy? Thats the one. How did you manage to get it onto your PC? I'd love to be able to play on that again. Many a good hour as a kid. Also remember if you just clicked on load game it was a cheat and got you into europe. Easy. Download the bbc emulator from here.. http://www.mikebuk.dsl.pipex.com/beebem/ install it Then goto http://www.stairwaytohell.com/index2.html and scroll down (it's a fair way down, think they've got nearly every bbc game ever) until you find football director. download it and unzip it to where you installed the emulator. open up the emulator, load up the disk hit shift+break and you're away. I think f12 pretends to be the break key. Oh and if you want to save you're game you have to un tick write protect disk 0 in the file menu -> disk options. I lost my first game like that. I played a couple of seasons this evening. I was a bit shit to start off with. Title: Striker Post by: Devon Red on Thursday, September 14, 2006, 14:54:07 Ok i'm thick as shit when it comes to computers so i'm going to have to do the un-manly thing and ask....How the hell do you unzip a file? Is it the option that says extract to...? Tried pretty much everything and it still wont work :(
Title: Striker Post by: flammableBen on Thursday, September 14, 2006, 18:25:31 No worries. It wasn't exactly the clearest thing I've ever posted.
I presume you've managed to download the 2 files; the emulator "beebem33.exe" and the disk image "FootballDirector.zip". If you've ran beebem33.exe and gone through the installation then by default it get's installed to "c:\program files\beebem". Next right-click on footballdirector.zip, you should have an "Extract All...", if not "Extract to" should be similar enough to follow the instructions. When it asks you where you want to extract it to put in "C:\Program Files\BeebEm\DiscIms". When that's done, goto the start menu, beebem should be in there somewhere, click on it like you would anyother thing in the start menu. BeebEm should start up with the familiar bbc screen in a window. Goto the file menu and press run disk. it should come up with the normal open a file window thing, hopefully there is a folder called "FootballDirector", double click on that, then double click on a folder called "CDS" then double click on "FootballDirector.ssd". This should start it up fine and you can play away to your hearts content. One more thing, if you want to save a game, then you have to the file menu, then disk options and unselect "write protect 0". Otherwise you get an error. Hopefully that works. It beats the crap out of fm2006! |
