Title: drop shakes?
Post by: SwindonStevo on Saturday, September 9, 2006, 15:46:25
just had a thought, not sure about it myself but it might receive some support on here as theres a lot of people that dont like shakes.

Drop him, put ince in and push Weston out wide?

I dont paticularly like Shakes but Weston as a winger :|

I think our midfield should be (right to left):

Weston Ince Evans Brown/Caton.

Depends what Westons crossing ability is like.

As much as Shakes works hard, as much as he puts in brilliant defensive work....he still cant cross it well enough.

If Weston can, then he should played ahead of Ricky in that position

Correct there is no need to panic, but you would like a winger who could cross the ball.

i thought shakes was one of are better players today put in a hell of alot of effort for the cause

and i know his crossings crap

thinking about it only in the first half though

admittedly i didn't go to the game today but i still maintain that it's ok for us to say he should cross the ball but he very rarely gets the ball anywhere near where would be a good crossing position. to my mind he's gotten to the byline once where there hasn't been two defenders stood right next to him and he got in a fucking peach (at chester)

i'm under no illusions, he's not the best. but as has been pointed out loads of times, if he could run with the ball very fast and then put in a ball he wouldn't be playing one step off non league

For the effort he puts in, you can't drop him. He's an inspiration, if not particular skilled.
It'd send a bad message if he was dropped - ie play hard for the team, get dropped.

Me too!
Weston is a central midfielder not a winger. If he played out wide he would be likely to get drawn into the middle and expose the right back.

And can you seriously see Ince and Evans playing 90 minutes week in week out together?

To throw one into the argument - I think Weston should be dropped, I think he's been the weakest player so far...

i don't see why shakes should be dropped, although his crossing is well below par he adds more to the team in terms of movement, pace and he defends well and covers the fullback.

there's not really any other option, but he does need some competition at that position.

weston's been disappointing given his pre-season performances, but there's definitely great potential there.

Shakes was shited yesterday but Weston was even worse I thought. Don't rate him at all, frankly. I've never seen a player so scared of a tackle.

Weston looked superb pre-season. In competetive games he hasn't looked as impressive, and yesterday at times reminded me of a poor mans Pook :?

i thought weston offered less last night than shakes does.

weston cut inside so much that he never got into a crossing position, whilst shakes might waste his crosses at least he puts a few in.

ir probably did restrict us with our width alittle bit in truth but i just think it had to be tried and is there as an option. im sure it will work better against certain teams.

we didnt use the wings at all last night. I dont know if that was the plan, pack the middle...but very rarely did Caton or Weston get down the byline

The touchline is where they take the throw-ins, the byline is an extension of the goal line.

I think it was Wisey's plan to play narrow, as they were a strong, competitive team through the middle, and we lined up to match them.  Hence Weston over Shakes.

probably be the same midfield saturday with shakes at right back if smith is not fit.
