Title: Cars
Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, September 7, 2006, 15:51:27
One for Ralphy methinks but I am looking to get a car over in Lux and the 2 I fancy are the Type R or more likely the Audi S3. Know a bit about the Type R from Ralphy but anyone know much about the Audi?

Audi s3's are the bees knees. Shit of a shovel. Saving my pennies to get one (or an r32). They look like a normal A3 which is good so doesn't look like a boy racer.

Tough choice. German Engineering v Japanese Reliability? I'd imagine the Type R would be significantly cheaper though as you normally pay a premium for the Audi badge (you could buy a Seat with the same mechanicals for much less...).

I'd go for the S3 to piss Ralphy off  :D

S3's are well built cars but the 1.8 Turbo used in VW/Audi cars is notorious for going wrong.

As for the Type R well, i've owned 2 and apart from a minor niggle the engine is a gem. Revs to 8,000 rpm and sounds lovelly and the gearchange is the best i've ever used in any car, That includes Ferrari's. Thats no overstatement, read the roadtests.

As for performance, their both well matched.

The older S3's have 210 bhp and the newer ones have 225 bhp.

The Type R has 197 bhp but weighes a good 200 kg less than the Audi so keeps up easy and on a track would probally beat it due to better handling.

Up to you fella but i'd go for a high tech Jap engine anyday over a boring turbo'd german one.

Thanks for the replies.

There are quite a lot of S3's in Luxembourg and hardly any Type R's which leans me slightly towards the Type R. My other option which Coxernator mentioned would be a Sporty Seat of some description. May have to do some homework when I get back. Also am probably going to wait until after winter as the winters are shite in Luxembourg with loads of snow.

I managed to sell my Focus but only got 6,750 for it as the brakes were fucked and I wanted to get shot of it quickly. Probably undersold it but I don't now need the money!!

Also take into account that the S3 has the quattro drive train so in the wet and snow there will be no contest - S3 it has to be...

The Audi will be easier to buy and I could probably save myself money by going across to Gertmany to buy. I do like the Type R and it is quite rare.

Think I may just go for a Hyundai Accent 1.3, be on the safe side!! :soapy tit wank:

I drove a Type R the other night and was a bit disappointed having driven numerous S3s.  Audi for me are the best car manufacturer out there right now, and the cabins are amazing places to be.  The interior is second to none.  The Seat Leon Cupra R might be worth a look, as may the Focus RS.  I haven't driven a Focus RS yet, but the Ford Mondeo SST220 is fucking amazing.

 :|

If you gave me the money, I'd probably opt for the Ford as it's the trendiest car but also has an ace interior and similar Ford's I've driven have been great to drive.  The S3 is perfect except I think it's a little ugly.

just cos you drive/park/crash lots of fancy cars, dont mean you know shit about em laddy ;)

fords arent trendy, i guarantee that. 'trendy' cars suck anyways, its all based on word of mouth and opinions, which is bollocks, because the only opinion i trust is my own. trends pass, my opinions are generally steadfast in most cases...

bennett, until december i am. after that i'm free! if i'd avoided that lemon of a car, i'd have a sweet car now. the mazda wasn't a dubious purchase anyways, i expected it to last a year or less, and it was fucking great fun...
