got myself a bargin set of Howson clubs for £22 + del
A brand new Newbery Bag for £13.50 + del
and 50 Titelist balls for £16 + del

ideal for someone like myself who isn't anygood and is starting out.

I play, its the most annoying game in the world but also one of the most satisfying. We should organise a TEF Society day ,it wouldnt cost that much . The thing that always makes me laugh is when the fuck wit with all the gear (Taylor Made clubs, Huge bag ,flash clothes ) Tees off from the 1st and hits it about 20 yards.  A set of £800 clubs will not make a shit player better ,you would be better investing the money on some lessons or better still have a mate whose brother is an Ex PGA pro

I play a bit. Hardly played at all this year, probably about 3-4 times.
I love playing it, but the trouble is, i'm pretty shit at it.
I can't be arsed with all that handicap bollocks.

see i'm a very long way off getting near to a handicap but i enjoy playing.
for a full set of clubs and a bag for under £50 is a bargin in my eyes. ideal for a beginer like myself

are howsen any good?
Friends at work said they were half decent but tbh for £22 i can't complain.

that's damn cheap, and howsen are a good starter set, but especially for £22.

i think a golf day is a must. dmr fancies himself as well (why he prefers tubby inbreds i have no idea) but we should be able to round up a few people.

maybe play the L&P scum as well

Maybe he's been busy burning all those Oxford University sweaters he was so proud of and replacing them with Oxford Brookes ones.

Amen brother Foggy. I just bought a new TaylorMade driver ($400 reduced to $150) and I still can't hit a cows arse with a banjo. Maybe that's my problem - try hitting a golf ball with the golf club

I'm definitely taking some lessons next spring.

I took up golf 16 years ago when I was between jobs and was given a gold card by the council.

As is usual with me it sparked off my obsessive compulsive disorder and I used to spend 4 hours on the range followed by 18 holes.  This happened nearly every day (apart from Thursdays   ) for about 9 months and, when I could afford it, I would have a lesson to iron out any imperfections.  There were days when I would go home and my hands were bleeding fromburst blisters :?

I bought a set of second hand Mizuno TP 11 bladed clubs (none of this cavity backed rubbish for me) and I still play with the same set now.

By the time I got a job I was playing off 4 and could hit the green on par 4's up to about 350 yards.  The downside was that despite getting a really good tan it was limited to my arms and neck apart from my left hand which was lily white from wearing the glove, plus my right hand developed really hard callouses which wasn't good for my single status 'sex' life

Sadly I don't get much time to play now (tomorrow is only the second time this year) but Foggy is absolutely right - spend any money on lessons and practice until it hurts

i've always been of the opinion that lessons is a form of cheating - although after 4 years playing, I am still going round in about 120, so maybe I should change my view on that !

Got my clubs from cash converters - full set, trolley and a really retro bright blue faux leather bag straight out of the 1980s for 60 quid.

One thing I have noticed is how much better expensive balls seem to be.  They generally fly further and more importantly straighter.  Still I won't cough up for them though, get a cheap box of donnay ones, and when I'm later on hacking through bushes looking for them I usually find a few decent ones in there as well.
