It's gone a bit quiet on the race to get your driving licence first.

Are either of you anywhere near to putting in for your test yet?

*gulp*

Just gotta hope I pass it I suppose  :)

I'll enter, I managed to screw mine last week straight out of the test centre.

Next one in 6 weeks time.

I really shouldn't be allowed to ever drive.

My driving instructor had 2 weeks off and then I had a lesson and went off on holiday for two weeks so things were a bit sparce! My first lesson back was fine but I stalled on a roundabout and things were slightly shakey as I tryed to get back into it. Had a perfect lesson a couple of days ago  8)  Drove to chippy, He said my steering was perfect and my 3 point turns are getting better and my gear change is perfect now so I am back in the race and he should give me a date for my theory soon! I am in no rush.......trust me, I don't want to cause accidents  :P

don't worry, you're female. accidents are perfectly natural and to be expected.

a mate just crashed his fiesta in the back of an audi a3 at 40mph and completely fucked up the front-end. five months driving, two fairly serious crashes. twat!

I'm pretty confident driving now  8)  Too confident I think. I love driving. I love changing gear, I love saying thankyou to people as you drive past and I loved doing 80 down the bypass and taking over the snotty bitch in the saxo. My instructor gets a bit funny when I honk the horn really loudly at my mates when we are going through westbury but I love it I really do.

I know some people are so impatient. Somebody actually overtook me between Wootton Bassett and Lyneham round a blind bend when I was already over 60mph

There was a mobile speed camera in the 30 limit in Lyneham  8)

It's when 3 knobs on mopeds overtake you when you are doing bang on the speed limit (40mph) you have to worry.

who said anything about being proud? i was realy fuckin worried. sayin 'i was probably over the limit' was a bit of an exageration, what i meant is it wasnt completely out of my system. i didnt exactly stumble into the driving seat.

I am very patient with learner drivers, because I always remember how I felt when I was learning to drive.
But on the other hand, there is no real excuse for driving extremely slow. My instructor was always very quick to point out that I wasn't driving to the speed limit and that I should speed up, which is (in my opinion) a good way to teach learner drivers. Get them used to driving at the speed limits as quickly as possible.

People who honk at learner drivers and overtake them are wankers, what is that going to achieve?

my instructor did the same, ging. he even took me out on the motorway after i passed and got me to do 90+ because "you're going to do it anyway, so you may as well learn how to do it safely" 8)

It is entirely possible to fail for not reaching speed limits, as driving too slow is also considered dangerous.

:D  Getting on ok lady thanks. I really need to start revising for my theory and then get it booked up though. I've left it a bit long!

Although I the shittest lesson on tuesday ever. I Was'nt feeling myself anyway, and all up a very long road I had a bloody white transit van behind me with two dickheads in. They kept flashing and beeping and were very close to my bumper. It made me really nervous and I crunched the gears a bit! When we got to the traffic lights though colin gave me permission to hoon it off like a boy racer to piss them off and they never really caught up with me after that. That affected my whole lesson then because I was wound up. But I guess everyone has band lessons. BASTARDS.

This thread reminds me of my solution for traffic congestion.

Anyone who doesn't pass first time is disqualified from using the roads for life. The shortfall in relevant taxes will be bridged by the "failed to pass first time" drivers tax.

Seems fair enough to me.

Sade, don't be wound up by it.  Go faster and stop causing a public hazard :).

Congratulations R4E.

I’ve got my 2nd attempt a week on Friday.  I really wished I’d done it as a youngster now but being on the move a fair bit and spunking cash on travelling and beer didn’t really leave much left over for driving.

Having been chauffeured around quite so much I now find myself drifting off into passenger mode while driving and getting distracted by anything and everything except the road.
