Title: Good attitude
Post by: juddie on Tuesday, August 15, 2006, 10:10:29
After people complained about a lack of fitness and passion last season, I find it refreshing to see players saying things like this:

Paul Evans was perhaps an unexpected face at training on Monday. The first team were granted a day off after a busy first week, but Evans himself opted to join in with the training session that took place for the reserve team ahead of their fixture against Yeovil.

"I joined in with the reserves and youth team who were training. In fairness I have only played a half here and there, as well as 90 minutes against Rochdale. I always want to keep on top of my fitness and stay as fit as I can, it certainly didn't do any harm!"

Ty was ace. Was probably my favourite player alongside George Ndah at one point. Was so disappointed he left!

Sometimes I think, I wish I was a bit younger etc.

But when I read things like that I think to myself thank fuck I'm my age.  If Ndah and Gooden were my favourite players I think I'd have to shoot myself.  In the grand scheme of things they're both irrelevant to me.

Thank God for Peter Coyne (my favourite from my early days), Alan Mac, Fraser, CC, Shaun, Jan and others.

With Evans setting such a good strong example of commitment with extra training etc. lets hope Pook can take a leaf out of his book.  They're going to have to upeir game anyway as competition for places will be so much stronger if we sign Ince and also when Whally/Gurney return.

Talking of Gurns, nice to see he is in the squad tonight for the reserves...

At the time Jan!!!

Everybody has favourites through time, like now I think Peacock and Brezovan are demi-gods  :)  It doesn't make them the best players ever to have worn the red shirt

While we are on the subject, I would like to add that my favourite player of all time is the wonderful Micky Hazard.  Genius.  He could beat a man just by turning 360 degrees on the spot, and his range of passing was beautiful.

Bit harsh.

Many of our players have come out of Wises pre-season far better than last, nothing to say Gurney can't do the same>? Give him a chance at least.

I have had it with that blokes inadequacy. And at his age, he won't change much... in God knows how many years he's played for us, he's probably impressed me about 4 times.
