Title: Sky HD Post by: farmer geoff on Sunday, August 13, 2006, 15:53:08 seems a bit pricey for the channels that are currently available for HD
Title: Sky HD Post by: SwindonTownFC on Sunday, August 13, 2006, 15:53:38 whats the cost?
Title: Sky HD Post by: farmer geoff on Sunday, August 13, 2006, 15:56:20 dont quote me but i think its a tenner a month, where as sky plus is free with 2 premium channels
Title: Sky HD Post by: blinkpip on Sunday, August 13, 2006, 15:59:09 Do you have to buy a HD TV and a new Sky box?
Title: Sky HD Post by: farmer geoff on Sunday, August 13, 2006, 16:04:06 yes you do need a HD ready TV
Title: Sky HD Post by: The Grim Reaper on Sunday, August 13, 2006, 16:35:58 1/ You will need a HD compatible TV to reap the benefit. Expect to pay anything from £699 up depending on size and make.
2/ Sky will charge you £299 for a HD box. If you already subscribe to Sky its still £299. 3/ On top of your monthly subscription to Sky you will have to pay an additional £10 a month for HD content currently just 8 channels. So if you have the Sky World package its about £55 a month. If you want my advce then.....WAIT. NTL and Telewest have just merged and have been aquired by Virgin Group. They are already running HD over their cable network in some Telewest areas and early indications are very favourable according to variable sources. From what I have read somewhere, NTL/Telewest will relaunch its cable service early 2007 under the name 'Virgin Vision' offering a quad service of HDTV, Broadband, phone and mobile. Now i'm the first to admit that in the past NTL have been pretty shit but lets be honest, have you ever seen Richard Branson make a pigs ear of anything? And its a good excuse to not give my hard earned cash to that robbing git that is Rupert Murdoch. Title: Sky HD Post by: hansgruber on Sunday, August 13, 2006, 16:37:40 Quote have you ever seen Richard Branson make a pigs ear of anything? I'm not that impressed with Virgin trains to be honest, but generally I think you're right Title: Sky HD Post by: Batch on Sunday, August 13, 2006, 17:01:28 Just to clarify, the £10 a month gives you the HD channels appropriate to your current package. So for example if you don't have the movies (or sport) your £10 will NOT get you the HD movie (or sport) channels.
So the extra £10 is up to HD 8 channels. And not all content on these channels are true HD but are 'pscaled' to the HD format by Sky. Personally I think if you are happy with what you have the 'step up' to HD is not worth the extra. I am certainly holding off until that £10 is dropped or substantially more HD content is available. The demos I have seen haven't blown me away. Then again that was in Comet/Dixons, I doubt the staff can tie their shoe laces let alone set up a HD demo properly. If you already have a HD ready TV or intend to get a large screen (36" or more) then maybe it's worth it. Title: Sky HD Post by: Onion_Jimbo on Sunday, August 13, 2006, 17:42:04 i was wondering if this is worth it. apparently it makes football better. like looking at it through a window!

The Sky HD Box is £299.99, how do they make a profit?. Title: Sky HD Post by: SwindonStevo on Sunday, August 13, 2006, 18:59:13 im not really arsed about it in the least if im honest, quite happy with it the way it is at the moment.
The only thing thats fucking anoying is sky sports have to point out every single fucking programme is on HD1 or HD2. Yes we get the fucking picture we can get it in HD now fuck off. rant over Title: Sky HD Post by: Arriba on Sunday, August 13, 2006, 19:37:31 a mate of mine has it,its good but i aint gonna fork out on a new tv and an extra subscription for a little better clarity.
it is good, but unless you have spare cash dont bother.if you do then do it Title: Sky HD Post by: Barry Scott on Monday, August 14, 2006, 10:46:45 I've seen HD and wow, great picture, but as far as i'm concerned it seems to much.
I mean, who the fuck needs to see blades of grass during football matches? I can't ever recall watching TV and wishing i could see something more clearly, as least to that degree. Seems a load of pointless shit to me. Lots of people are yet to even step up to Digital? With a good TV, i feel Digital is about as good as is required. Title: Sky HD Post by: janaage on Monday, August 14, 2006, 11:15:31 Fuck me I've only just got a 'puter and broadband at home, fuck going out and getting this shit.
Is the picture really that amazing??? Any shops in town have demo's of it? Title: Sky HD Post by: Batch on Monday, August 14, 2006, 11:44:37 Comet near Asda (Orbital?) have a Sky HD demo. Dixons in town had a general HD demo but it wasn't using Sky HD as a source.
Title: Sky HD Post by: Dazzza on Monday, August 14, 2006, 11:47:14 I'm the same boat really can't fathom if it's woth the extra expense of not.
Are we talking DVD quality or better? Title: Sky HD Post by: Batch on Monday, August 14, 2006, 11:56:19 In theory it should be better than DVD quality. By beter I mean more detailed because the resolution is higher.
In practice I strongly recommend you check it out before investing. Title: Sky HD Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Monday, August 14, 2006, 11:57:59 Jesus wept! £299 for an HD Sky Box???? then another £10 a month on top of everything else????
Fuck off. There's a limit to how good a tv picture can be. Title: Sky HD Post by: Dazzza on Monday, August 14, 2006, 12:03:47 Quote from: "Batch" In theory it should be better than DVD quality. Cheers Batch, I can't tell the difference anyway so it's a case of ignorance being bliss either that I need to get the old eye peepers tested. Title: Sky HD Post by: hansgruber on Monday, August 14, 2006, 15:24:47 If they've got it set up properly then you can definitely see the difference - they've got it in the Currys here in Salisbury.
I'd liken it to watching a DVD after being used to video, or listening in Stereo instead of Mono. Saying that, I still won't be spending my money on it just yet |
