just over 8 hours to kick-off :o Title: Craziness Post by: stfctownenda on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, 10:33:09 Well excited about tonights game cant remember going into a season so optimistic. I'm being extra positive and thinking we will bag a few goals tonight without response I am going for 4-0 Roberts (2), Evans and then Onibuji comes off the bench to notch the final 1 bringing a deafening eruption of noise from the county ground, maybe I'm getting bit carried away will settle for another 1-0 with Brezovan scoring from a long goal kick.
Bring on the season woohoo :beers: Title: SWINDON v BARNET MATCHDAY THREAD Post by: STFCBird on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, 10:33:28 Quote from: "townendjim" will be paraded before the stockport game because players and coaches are still away, means i won't be there :( ha ha loser  Title: SWINDON v BARNET MATCHDAY THREAD Post by: townendjim on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, 10:34:35 yeah i will be there in spirit sonic, don't you worry :P 8 hours can't go quickly enough

I'm going for a 17-0 win for the Town. The beast to score them all and Brezovan to save 12 penalties. We haven't won the first home game of the season since Parkin's hat-trick... and all the others have finished with us losing 3-2 (Sheff Wed, Luton & Oldham) so fingers crossed for a change! Title: SWINDON v BARNET MATCHDAY THREAD Post by: Frigby Daser on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, 11:06:42 I'll go for a 2-0 win - but its not going to be easy - they've got some half decent players. Graz's record with them is unbelievable, albeit in the Conference. I was dead impressed with Dean Sinclair on't telly last year too in centre mid. Nick bailey's supposed to be useful too.
Not a stroll in the park by any means. Title: SWINDON v BARNET MATCHDAY THREAD Post by: Tails on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, 11:49:44 BBC says Wise is starting with the same team that won at Hartlepool.

Wasn't it clear enough for everyone to see that Hartlepool walked past Weston and Pook every time? We'll only have a clearer idea of what this Div i about when we've seen a range of teams.....Barnet and particularly Rochdale, should provide evidence of this. I don't buy into this HPool being so tough stuff....they've lost some useful players and not replaced them and were generally poor last season hence why they were relegated. I fully expect Darlo to be a team up there at the end of the season.....still think we're "work in progress" not sure DW can wave a wand at some of last season's wasters and conjure quality from them Title: SWINDON v BARNET MATCHDAY THREAD Post by: STFCBird on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, 12:09:03 Quote from: "red macca" I am scared now :D sorry - you started it :D Title: SWINDON v BARNET MATCHDAY THREAD Post by: red macca on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, 12:10:15 good point i was just trying to be hard thats all

It is just a case of performing properly and at 100% throughout the year, which is so often the undoing of STFC. Hartlepool are probably ONE OF the better teams in this league so an away win all the way up there is as encouraging as the away support was! We just have to be tight defensively and I am sure with the Robocock partnership we can be clinical up front. Tonight is a game we should win no matter how good Barnet are. If they play well i will accept whatever the result is but I would expect 3 points if in DW's position Title: SWINDON v BARNET MATCHDAY THREAD Post by: STFCBird on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, 12:11:44 Quote from: "red macca" good point i was just trying to be hard thats all :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick: read your pm's you spaz  Title: SWINDON v BARNET MATCHDAY THREAD Post by: red macca on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, 12:13:26 just have..  thats disgusting

We could very easily have gone down by 3 or 4 V HPool....so we've much to do before becoming a dominant force. One aspect of recent years has been the players unable to get up for a game which has a bit of pressure on it ......even at this early stage this is such a match. Title: SWINDON v BARNET MATCHDAY THREAD Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, 13:31:00 Well the reason is pressure you need to become battle hardened, so you know how to respond in difficult situations.....
Its something that has to run from the individuals into the team, so that the players implicitly trust their team mates.....we still have a nucleus of last seasons players, who are soft, when the going gets tough.....they're not up to it. This can change, but I'll need to see hard evidence of say 15-20 games, before being convinced. Makes a nice change them coming out for the second half a goal down and believing that they can get something out the game. The Wise influence getting them fired up. Maximum points, a very good crowd and what sounded like attacking play. I'm happy with that. Title: SWINDON v BARNET MATCHDAY THREAD Post by: Batch on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, 21:40:40 Hard to draw any conclusions a couple of games in, but 6 points out of 6 will do me :)
First 3 minutes could have seen 3 goals with Shakes, Shakes and Shakes missing 2 headers and another shot. Defence showed some old habbits by gifting Barnet their goal. Just whack it into row Z next time! We fell apart a bit then and failed to get hold of the ball. Barnet were on top but were not very creative so 1-0 at half time was not great but not irretrievable. Evans came on in the second and looked a different player to the Reading game, a quality one! From then on the now stop starty game was more in our favour. We equalised through some good play down the right to allow Shaked to shank a cross over the keeper and in. The 'cock and Shakes were replaced by Fola Oudiwhatsit and Royce Brownlie. We went a bit long but then Brownlie scored a 30 yard screamer at the death that is probably already goal of the season (unlucky Sadie, mwahaha). MOM: Christian Roberts. Good touch. Endless running. Dangerous. Should have scored when clean through mind! In short, we didn't look like we'd piss the league, but we made 5 or 6 good chances. Barnet made maybe 1 or 2. INCE NEWS: Wise will be talking to him in the next couple of days. Oh, and we had the second biggest crowd in league 1 and 2 behind 'uddersfield. I hate the feeling when you really really want to be at the football. Best bit was, the table was divided into city and swindon fans! Oh how they loved it when they were 1-0 up and we were 1-0 down. Oh how sweet it was walking out.
Title: SWINDON v BARNET MATCHDAY THREAD Post by: PHIL!!!! on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, 22:20:35 Cracking match, i thought.
Started really well and as someone said, we could have had 3 goals in the first 5 minutes! Shakes i feel should have definetly scored. We had control of the game in the first 20 minutes, then seemed to lose our way and Barnet go and score a scrappy goal....Then for the rest of the half it was all a bit dull. Second half started brightly though and Peacock and Roberts were linking up really well. Roberts really should have scored, but he was awesome all night, so cant fault him. Peacock also had a good chance, but he was awesome as well so again, cannot fault him. Good goal by Shakes and the link up play just before the goal, was brilliant. The sort of thing we havent seen in the past couple of seasons. Barnet could hardly get out their own half for all the 2nd half. Royce Brownlie's goal - An absolute beauty! All in all, Brezovan didnt have much to do at all and we were the far better side. Still not quite the finished article, but that will come in good time. Title: SWINDON v BARNET MATCHDAY THREAD Post by: RobertT on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, 23:59:03 umm, no, not really, owing to the blue paper we ordered actually turning out to be a sort of aqua white! everyone seemed to hold their paper up but you wouldn't have known it was a Uruguay flag I'm afraid. Shame given the turnout was so much better than the Brentford one.
We'll be sticking to Red in displays I think. Title: SWINDON v BARNET MATCHDAY THREAD Post by: McLovin on Wednesday, August 9, 2006, 08:01:50 I was still walking from the pub, and missed it...
Some observations: Pook has got worse Monkhouse has no saving abilities to make up for his lack of any winger qualities We have no width Aside from those, i thought some of our play going forward was very encouraging (Roborts' movement is fantastic) and we totally deserved the 3 points. Can't ask better than 6 points from 6. I'd have to say that his goal looked like a poor cross from where I was sitting.
He didn't really do anything special throughout the game. He doesn't run at people, or use this 'pace' that he has apparently got. Thought Monkey did a job, decent in defence but doesn't seem to do a regular wingers job and run with the ball down the line. Also, we can't take decent corners or free-kicks for toffee. Title: SWINDON v BARNET MATCHDAY THREAD Post by: McLovin on Wednesday, August 9, 2006, 08:15:12 FAO Lady...
