Title: Coventry fail with bid for Parkin Post by: Stef Troll on Monday, August 7, 2006, 18:31:41 Ipswich have turned down an approach from Championship rivals Coventry for striker Sam Parkin.
Parkin, 25, joined Ipswich from Swindon in the summer of 2005 but missed much of last season with a broken ankle. "There was an initial inquiry from Coventry and we rejected an offer but there's been nothing more since," boss Jim Magilton told the club website. "Sam is still part of my thinking and will be in the squad for Tuesday's game with Wolves." Parkin did not feature in Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by Crystal Palace. Magilton added: "He was in the squad, but didn't make my 16 because I felt his form in pre-season wasn't as good as the other players who were in the squad." Coventry manager Micky Adams has made sweeping changes to his squad for the new season, with 10 new signings including West Ham's Elliott Ward and Port Vale's Chris Birchall. Title: Coventry fail with bid for Parkin Post by: Dazzza on Monday, August 7, 2006, 19:11:27 Can anyone remember if our sell on clause was ever announced?
I thought it was quite high, although I've probably dreamt that up. Wouldn't have got much back for their return at a 100k I'd have thought. Title: Coventry fail with bid for Parkin Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Monday, August 7, 2006, 20:01:30 I think Parkin will go to Cov if my local rag is to be believed.
Apparently Ipswich turned down a 200k bid from Coventry but complied with their request that he should not be included for the squad for the Palace game. I mean, what does that sound like to you??? Quote IPSWICH want former £5 million man Jon Macken to boost their bid to climb off the bottom of the Championship. And he could replace Sam Parkin in Saturday's squad to face Hull as Luton and Preston wage a bidding war for the ex-Swindon striker. The 28-year-old Crystal Palace striker has been targeted by Town boss Jim Magilton, who said today: “Macken is definitely a player who interests us. “I will be speaking to Palace manager Peter Taylor to see if we can get something done. I'd like to sign him on loan for a month and take it from there.” It could be a hectic few days on the transfer front at Portman Road as Magilton also pursues a defender, ideally in time for Saturday's basement battle. Ipswich have been offered £300,000 by Luton for Parkin, while Preston have bid less, and Magilton added: “Sam's future could be sorted out this week. “It will ultimately come down to the player and what he wants to do. Depending on who bids what he might have a choice of clubs. “There are also defenders who interest us and something might happen on that front. We are in a position to sign players on loan or on a permanent basis. “We have money to spend and we want to spend it wisely. It would be lovely if we could bring in a new defender for the weekend and we are scouring the country for the right man.” Ipswich are clearly ready to cut their losses on Parkin, who cost them £500,000 last summer and would probably welcome a change of scenery after failing to settle in the area. http://www.eveningstar.co.uk/content/eveningstar/sport/story.aspx?brand=ESTOnline&category=Sport&tBrand=ESTOnline&tCategory=zSport&itemid=IPED16%20Aug%202006%2012%3A00%3A04%3A213 |
